Jennifer Marie Richmond who went mostly by Jenny or Jen has grown out in a small town. Her Perents went to a united Methodist Church. She had always been a good student. She loved history . She was an avid reader. She was politicaly involved as well.
She had been very involved in her local church from a young age.she became very interested in Methodist history and the theology of metgodist. She knew everything there to know about Methodist and John Wesley and everything associated with it.
At a young age she talked about being a ministet. That and being a starship captian. She was a Star trek fan as well. Her farther tried to discourege it at first. He was a bit of a traditionalist. He was not sure about a women pastoring a church. She stuck to this dream. When there local church welcomed a female pastor that kind of put the kibosh on slot of his objections. While jack Richmond as still not so sure about female pastors or his daughter becoming a pastor.
Jack and Jenny had always been close. They tended to agree mostly on the big theological questions. Even with some disagreements, they had been close. He was proud of the person his daughter has turned out to be. She was a strong person. She had good Character and intregrety. She was a hard worker. He held on to his more old feshoned views as well.
She has stuck with her dream of becoming a minister.she worked towards that goal. She was mentored by pastor Kathy. She went to a seminary that trained more mainline ministers Including united Methodist.
While Jenny was not guy crazy, she still want to be maried. She did not spend a lot of time thinking marrying. Her Perents believed in aranged mariege. From a long age it was ingrained in her that her spouse would be chosen. Y her Perents. She was fine with that. She had accepted it. She even anticipated it. She trusted her Perents. She knew that they had her best interest at heart.
They had not talked about it recently. She was pastoring a church so she was busy with her local church.she was heavily involved with the sate denomination and local civic engagement as well. She had not considered being married.
She always took Wednesday off. She was drinking coffee when her phone went off. “Hello this is Jenny!”she said. “Hi Jenny it’s your mom. Can you you drop by the house?” Her mom asked. “Yea sure.is everything OK?” Jenny asked.”yes of course your farther and I have something we want to discuss. ” She said. Jenny was a little confused.”OK . I will be right up. ” She said.
She was a bit confused. She was cruious as well. She headed to there home. She lived 20 minutes away form her Perents. She came in. They engaged in small talk. Then they got to the point. ” As you know , your mother and I decided that your marriage should be aranged.”jack said.”of course. ” She said.
She began to think that this was hardly an accedemic discussion. “You see we have been looking for a suitable candidate to be your husband.we have found someone.we believe that this is a good choice. ” Her farther said.” We are quite pleased with this man. ” Her mom said.
She had no idea how to take this. She had not considered that this could happen at any time. She figured it would. She was not obsessed with it. Now it was happening.
“I see.”she answered. She took a breath . She could not believe this. When she went back to his home, she tried to adjust to all this. She came to accept it. She did look forward to it.it was a new adventure . She did liked adventures.
She woke up the day of he weeding.she had no idea what to expect.her Perents had been a bit cryptic about him. She knew his name but that was about it.james foster. She had no idea what he would be like. Would they get along. Would they mesh? There would so many questions. So many veribles. She hoped that it would all work out. She was confident that it would. She was not so sure how.
When she saw him for the first time she thought he was attractive. He was clean shaven.he had short hair. He seemed friendly. Time appeared to have stopped when he took her hand. She forgot that there were other people in the audience . It felt like there was just her ,him and the minister. Then she began to come back to reality when he declared them to be husband and wife.
She was eiger to talk to him.she wanted to get to know him. She hardly knew what his voice sounded like. She understood that weadings were for the first as well as the bride and groom but she wanted to get to know this man. He was a complete enigma to her. She had felt neutral about the whole process. As the day got closer she was not exactly excited about the upcoming nuptials but did look forward to it.
Now that she met him ,it was totally real to her now. She still knew almost nothing about him.finsly they headed to the car.things started off well. The conversation was small talk but was pleasant. Then she found out that he was an independent fundimental Baptist. Form the little they talked,it appeared that they could not be any more different.
They said little on the drive to the cabin.neither one knew what to say. Both went inward. Both tried to make sense of it in there own mind. They had trouble doing that.
James was not sure what to do. He wanted to marry someone like him. He wanted to marry a fellow independent fundimental Baptist.he wanted a cone of himself. While they did not have to agree on everything but as far as theology he wnted his wife to be exactly like him. On favorite color s or style of car was fine to be be different but not on doctrine or practice. How his wife was totally different . He was prety sure she was good on basic doctirne not on other things. Definitely not on his view of ecclesiology.
Jenny was equally divided. She was not quite as a doctrinal purest as he was. She believed that the Bible is the word of God. She believed in salvation by grace though faith. She believed in social gospel as well. She was much more community minded. She did not have quite the same expectations then he had.she believed he would probably be an eventual or conservative mane line. She did not want to Mary someone in the united Church of Christ lane of the congregational church. She was sossily conserve but fiscally moderate to liberal.
She did not have a problem with him being a Fundy.she had a problem with the fact that he had a problem with him having a problem with it.she was not sure she could live in the scrict seperitist world of the I.f.b. she feared he could not live in the world of the mainline denomination. Were they headed to a impass?
They talked a little in the car after the revilation.it was not even smaller talk. “We are almost there !”James said.”excellent!” She said. They arived at the cabin complex. He parked the car at the main office. “I will be right back!”he told her. He kissed her on the forehead. He went inside.
She did not understand this man. He was a mystery to her. She wondered if she ever was. It took a few seconds for him to check in and get the key. He came right back in.”hey hunie.we are in cabin four c. “He told her. The car headed to the cabin. The car parked right outside the cabin. They got out of the car.
Even though he was not sure about all this but he was big into tradition.he picked her up and did carry her over the threshold.she was not old fashioned but felt like it was OK. She figured he would be all about tradition and as it turns out he was.
The cabin was small but beautiful as was the campus. He made a good choice. Maybe he had good taste at least in this. They started to bring things inside.he seamed to pack light. She packed a great deal more. That was to be expected. They brought stuff in. They did a little bjt of unpacking. Then they just sat for a minute.
Neither one knew what to say. They just sat in silence. Both sides tried to sort this out.neither one had a solution. They said nothing. They just sat.
