Aranged mariege part two.

Jennifer Marie Richmond who went mostly by Jenny or Jen has grown out in a small town. Her Perents went to a united Methodist Church. She had always been a good student. She loved history . She was an avid reader. She was politicaly involved as well.

She had been very involved in her local church from a young age.she became very interested in Methodist history and the theology of metgodist. She knew everything there to know about Methodist and John Wesley and everything associated with it.

At a young age she talked about being a ministet. That and being a starship captian. She was a Star trek fan as well. Her farther tried to discourege it at first. He was a bit of a traditionalist. He was not sure about a women pastoring a church. She stuck to this dream. When there local church welcomed a female pastor that kind of put the kibosh on slot of his objections. While jack Richmond as still not so sure about female pastors or his daughter becoming a pastor.

Jack and Jenny had always been close. They tended to agree mostly on the big theological questions. Even with some disagreements, they had been close. He was proud of the person his daughter has turned out to be. She was a strong person. She had good Character and intregrety. She was a hard worker. He held on to his more old feshoned views as well.

She has stuck with her dream of becoming a minister.she worked towards that goal. She was mentored by pastor Kathy. She went to a seminary that trained more mainline ministers Including united Methodist.

While Jenny was not guy crazy, she still want to be maried. She did not spend a lot of time thinking marrying. Her Perents believed in aranged mariege. From a long age it was ingrained in her that her spouse would be chosen. Y her Perents. She was fine with that. She had accepted it. She even anticipated it. She trusted her Perents. She knew that they had her best interest at heart.

They had not talked about it recently. She was pastoring a church so she was busy with her local church.she was heavily involved with the sate denomination and local civic engagement as well. She had not considered being married.

She always took Wednesday off. She was drinking coffee when her phone went off. “Hello this is Jenny!”she said. “Hi Jenny it’s your mom. Can you you drop by the house?” Her mom asked. “Yea everything OK?” Jenny asked.”yes of course your farther and I have something we want to discuss. ” She said. Jenny was a little confused.”OK . I will be right up. ” She said.

She was a bit confused. She was cruious as well. She headed to there home. She lived 20 minutes away form her Perents. She came in. They engaged in small talk. Then they got to the point. ” As you know , your mother and I decided that your marriage should be aranged.”jack said.”of course. ” She said.

She began to think that this was hardly an accedemic discussion. “You see we have been looking for a suitable candidate to be your husband.we have found someone.we believe that this is a good choice. ” Her farther said.” We are quite pleased with this man. ” Her mom said.

She had no idea how to take this. She had not considered that this could happen at any time. She figured it would. She was not obsessed with it. Now it was happening.

“I see.”she answered. She took a breath . She could not believe this. When she went back to his home, she tried to adjust to all this. She came to accept it. She did look forward to was a new adventure . She did liked adventures.

She woke up the day of he weeding.she had no idea what to expect.her Perents had been a bit cryptic about him. She knew his name but that was about it.james foster. She had no idea what he would be like. Would they get along. Would they mesh? There would so many questions. So many veribles. She hoped that it would all work out. She was confident that it would. She was not so sure how.

When she saw him for the first time she thought he was attractive. He was clean shaven.he had short hair. He seemed friendly. Time appeared to have stopped when he took her hand. She forgot that there were other people in the audience . It felt like there was just her ,him and the minister. Then she began to come back to reality when he declared them to be husband and wife.

She was eiger to talk to him.she wanted to get to know him. She hardly knew what his voice sounded like. She understood that weadings were for the first as well as the bride and groom but she wanted to get to know this man. He was a complete enigma to her. She had felt  neutral about the whole process. As the day got closer she was not exactly excited about the upcoming nuptials but did look forward to it.

Now that she met him ,it was totally real to her now. She still knew almost nothing about him.finsly they headed to the car.things started off well. The conversation was small talk but was pleasant. Then she found out that he was an independent fundimental Baptist. Form the little they talked,it appeared that they could not be any more different.

They said little on the drive to the cabin.neither one knew what to say. Both went inward. Both tried  to make sense of it in there own mind.  They had trouble doing that.

James was not sure what to do. He wanted to marry someone like him. He wanted to marry a fellow independent fundimental Baptist.he wanted a cone of himself. While they did not have to agree on everything but as far as theology he wnted his wife to be exactly like him. On favorite color s or style of car was fine to be be different but not on doctrine or practice. How his wife was totally different . He was prety sure she was good on basic doctirne not on other things. Definitely not on his view of ecclesiology.

Jenny was equally divided. She was not quite as a doctrinal purest as he was. She believed that the Bible is the word of God. She believed in salvation by grace though faith. She believed in social gospel as well. She was much more community minded. She did not have quite the same expectations then he had.she believed he would probably be an eventual or conservative mane line. She did not want to Mary someone in the united Church of Christ lane of the congregational church. She was sossily conserve but fiscally moderate to liberal.

She did not have a problem with him being a Fundy.she had a problem with the fact that he had a problem with him having a problem with it.she was not sure she could live in the scrict seperitist world of the I.f.b. she feared he could not live in the world of the mainline denomination. Were they headed to a impass?

They talked a little in the car after the was not even smaller talk. “We are almost there !”James said.”excellent!” She said. They arived at the cabin complex. He parked the car at the main office. “I will be right back!”he told her. He kissed her on the forehead. He went inside.

She did not understand this man. He was a mystery to her. She wondered if she ever was. It took a few seconds for him to check in and get the key. He came right back in.”hey hunie.we are in cabin four c. “He told her. The car headed to the cabin. The car parked right outside the cabin. They got out of the car.

Even though he was not sure about all this but he was big into tradition.he picked her up and did carry her over the threshold.she was not old fashioned but felt like it was OK. She figured he would be all about tradition and as it turns out he was.

The cabin was small but beautiful as was the campus. He made a good choice. Maybe he had good taste at least in this. They started to bring things inside.he seamed to pack light. She packed a great deal more. That was to be expected. They brought stuff in. They did a little bjt of unpacking. Then they just sat for a minute.

Neither one knew what to say. They just sat in silence. Both sides tried to sort this out.neither one had a solution. They said nothing. They just sat.

End of part two

Word from the Lord part 13

What Derrek and Katie did not know was that they were being watched. “It’s funny.i seam to recall another ministerial student siting at another parsnege steps. With a young lady.”the older pastor Carlson commented. “I have no idea what your talking about dad.”Bryan Carlson said.

“I never thought I would say this but I believe that God is going to use those two for his glory. “Anna Carlson said. ” I was sceptical when I heard that she was penticoastal . I must confess I am beginning to suspect that the Lord has a plan for there lives. ” The older pastor Carlson said. “They are a sweet couple.i am excited for them. “The older Mrs Carlson said.

“I probably should be getting back. “Katie said.”yea. It is getting late. I am going to miss you. “Derrek said. “Lord wiling it won’t be that long before we see each other again. “She told him.”I know that. Look kaetels I am not sure about the whole word thing but I don’t think that it is implosible that you were created for me. I would like to think that I could have been created for you.”he said.

Katie started to smile in a way she had never smiled before. She hugged him.”I definitely believe that you were created with me in mind. I have no doubts about that. “She replied to his comment.”I am glad you feel that way.”Derrek said.

They held hands as they went inside. “I am going to be heading back. Thank you so much for inviting me. “Katie told her future mother in law. Anna hugged her.”I am so glad you came! “Anna told her. “Katie said goodbye to various family members.. then Derrek walked her to her car.

He opened the door for her. “Your really starting to accept the possibility of us are you not? “She asked. “Yes I am hunie.i really am.”he told her.”I can tell.”she said. She hugged him. “Have a great night. “He told her.”you too”she said.

He started to walk away. She stopped him. She stopped him.”hey Derrek! “She said. He stopped. ” I love you! “She told him.he turned around. ” I love you too” he said. She drove off. He went inside.

He walked inside. “I am really glad that your grandma and I got to meet Katie.”his grandfather told Derrek. “I am glad you got to meet you. “He said. “We really like her.” His grandmother said.

“We are expecting a wearing invite any time now !”Nancy said.”no pressure “Denise said. “OK!”Derrek said. Derek was happy with everyone’s reaction. He was quite encouragd by all of this.

That night he told the Lord that he was ready to dedicate himself and Katie and whatever children they might have to the Lord. By faith  he would accept Katie as his wife. He was nervous but he would trust that this was the Lord will for his life. He was ready for the next step. He was ready to ask katie’s farther for permission to date her.

Katie had seen a difference in Derrek. He was more relaxed. She had not seen him like this. She loved meeting her family. It seemed right. She was happy that night. She eagerly anticipated the future.

The next day Katie got up. Her phone went off. “Hello. “She said.”Katie. It’s Nancy.Denise and I are going to get away. A kind of girls day out. Would you like to join us? It is a lot of fun but I have to earn you that we get a little silly. “Nancy said.” I would love to ” Katie said. ” Great is 11:00 OK?” She asked.

Derrek came to breakfast. “You ok Rick?”Bryan asked. “I am a little nervous. “He said. “Why is that? “Anna asked.” I am going to call kaetels dad and ask him for permission to date her ?” Derrek said. ” I remember calling Nancy’s dad.i was very nervous to say the least. “Robert said.

“Just be relaxed and respectful. I am sure it will be fine. “His dad said. ” You probably should not refer to her as kaetels when you called her dad.”Sarah said.”I should probably call her Katelyn. ” Derrek said. ” I think that is safe.”his dad said. ”

“What do I call kaetels dad? Normally I would call him pastor graves. Katie told me that he does not like to be called pastor graves. I consider it a sign of respect but he takes it the opposite. Almost as a sign of disrespectful.” Derrek said.

” What do people at church call him?” Rob asked. “Pastor Mike. I find that very disrespectful. “Derrek said. “If that is what he prefers,I think it is OK to refer to him that way. You need to set aside your values for this occasion.” Nancy said. ” I agree.”Derrek said.

” The key is to show genuine respect. “His farther said. “I will do that. I do feel that it is important to honor him. I will endeavour to do that. “He said.”that is important!”his dad said.” If you honor him in your heart the way the Bible says you will have no trouble communicating that.out of the abdundence of the heart the mouth speaks. “Robert said. “I know that.”he said.

“So do I call it datingor courtship. What if I accidently use an ice silver terms? To some the word dating caries the connotation of world others it is just a word. Some view courtship as the biblical method ,others do not.”Derrek said.

Courtship is probably a safe term. You plan on involving both sets of Perents any ways?”Nancy commented. “Absolutely!”Derrek , answered. ” Your over thinking this. You don’t want to sound fake or that it is have to sound genuine. You have to be genuine.”Rebecca said. “Don’t treat this like an obligation. It should not be. Perental involvement is part of God’s plan.its positive.”Derek said.

“We noticed that you have been. A bit skidish about you and Katie. You seamed to be staying your feet. You tended to want to slow things down . Now your rushing right In full speed. What changed?” His dad asked.

“She had elevated a lot of my fears.i feel like I have been able to see her character. I have come to see that she can be trusted. During devotions and prayer I feel free to proceed. “Derrek said.

“Your mom and I are definitely supportive of you moving forward. I think it is time to Persue it “pastor Bryan Carlson said.” Thanks dad.that means a lot.” Derrek said. ” “We are excited for you.”Anna said. “Thank you.i am too”Derrek said.

“Derrek does Katie know that your going to talk to her father?” Nancy asked.” No I have not. I wanted to surprise you. It will participate her christmast time. Well asumung he says yes. “Derrek said.” I think she will be surprised and thrilled.” Anna Carlson. Said.

Katie had no idea what to expect in her interaction with with Derek’s family. She had no real prior experience with the independent fundimental Baptist movement. She had known some Baptist but they were more evangelical. When she and Derrek first met ,he presented the I.f.b as strict and rigid. She figured that he was trying to discourage her from Persuing him. At the very least to curb the enthusiasm. She had no idea how they would react.

Nancy had really tried to welcome her. Nancy and Katie would become very close.they would keep in touch on the phone and on social media. They often referred to each other eas best friends. The friendship would bring Derek and Rob closer as well.

Derrek and Rob had had a report.derrrk liked Rob. He admired him.he looked up to him. They had not been very close. Rob was quite a bit older then Derrek.they did not have a lot in common. Derek did follow in Rob’s footsteps in Manny ways. There views are very similar. They still did not seam to click. Rob still saw Derrek that hyper kid that zapped him with a laser gun while he was trying to do trigonometry homework. Derrek never got pass Rob having no interest in him when

Jason was almost exactly like Rob. Jason always had time for Derrek. Jason not only put up with derrek’s youthfully furvolities but sometimes joined in. Nancy and Katie encouraged the two to become closer.botg wives Insisted they interact. They did open up with each other.

Denese,Nancy and Katie became a kind of three amogos or three sturges if you asked there husband’s. They looked forward to spending time together.denese and Nancy arrived a little before 11:00. Katie went out to meet them. “Good morning ! “Katie said.”morning!”they said.

At the restaurant. ” I am surprised you too are friends!” Katie remarked.”oh we are. It friends!” Nancy said I. A sarcastic tone. “Not at all. “Denese said.”they did not know what to make of Tom and denese at first. My in laws were glad that Tom was active in church. I was new to the family. I did not know Tim well. I did not have the same bagege that the rest of the family did. We just hit it off from minute one.”Nancy said.

“I knew a very different Tom then his family did. When went,he was very active in our church. I had no idea he went though a sprituel droubt as he called it. I had a totally different view of Tom. I was so nervous about meeting Nancy but we bit it off. Nancy helped bring both Tom and I back into the fold.”denese said.

“I appreciate the kindness both of you have shown me. I really feel welcome. “Katie said.”I am really excited to see you becoming part of our family.”Nancy said.”I am glad I won’t be outnumbered any more.” Denese said.

“Get to know Anna she is amazing lady. ” Nancy said.” She really is. ” Denese said.”I can see that. I really like her.”Katie said. “,I can tell that she really likes you.”Nancy said. “I am going to marry into a special family am I not?”Katie asked. ” You really are. I am excited for you.”denese said.

“I am probably getting too far ahead of myself. We are not even officially dating.i can’t help but be excited.”Katie said.nancy tried not to react. She wished that she could say something. She was shown to secrecy.

“I would not be woried about that. The way he looks at you. I know that it will all work out for you. ” Denese said. ” I think so too. ” Katie said. “You are his kaetels.”Nancy said. ” You know about his Nick name. “She asked.”yes. It comes with the territory. “Denese said.”Tom gave you a nickname?” Katie asked.”yes he did.nessy.” she answered. “Like the lockness monster ? “Katie said.”I don’t think that was his Intention but had grown on me.”denese said.

“Rob calls me many.its OK.”Nancy said.”,it could be worse.”Katie said.they laughed.” Do you mind being called kaetels?”Nancy asked.”,it’s fine.i kinda like it.”Katie said. They laughed.

Derrek was really nervous. He made the call frombis father’s den. He took a breath and then made the call. He heard the phone ringing.katie’s mom answered the phone. “Hello”Mrs .Graves said.” Hello is pastor Mike there?” Derek asked.” Yes he is. May I ask whose calling?”she asked.”this is Derrek Carlson. I am a firend of Katelyn. ” He answered.”,oh hi. I will go get him.” Valerie graves said.

Micheal Allen graves or pastor Mike as he was called wasin his office. Valerie came into his study. Dear. You have a call .It’s Derrek he is a friend of Katelyn. “She said. “Thanks Val”he said. Pastor Mike took the phone.”hello this is pastor Mike.”he said. ” Hi I am Derrek Carlson”he said.”hi. Katelyn told me a lot about you. “He said.”I am calling to ask your permission to formerly court your daughter. “Derrek said.

  • Derrek waited with batted breath. The pastor smiled and squeezed his wife hand.” From everything I have heard about you I do not see any reason why you cannot court my daughter. You have my permission.”pastor Mike said.”I look forward to meeting you in person. “Derek told him.”as do I!”the pastor said. “I would like to surprise her.coukd you not mention that we talked?”he asked.”I won’t mention it to her. I totally understand. I know that she will be very happy and surprised.she has told her mom and I slot about you. She is  very excited about the prospect of a relationship with you.”hesaid. “I am excited as well. Your daughter means a great deal to me.”Derrek said.”I can tell. “The pastor said.
  • After a  while, the phone conversation was concluded. “Did he ask you permission to court Katelyn?”,Valerie asked.” He did. I said yes.,”he said.,”I thought you did. “She said.”,he seams very polite. “,Mike said.
  • “So are you are prepared when he asked permission to propose mariege?”Val asked.” Well no. I am not ready for my little girl to get married but I think they will make a good couple. “He said.” I am supportive of this as well,”she said.
  • When Derrek turned off the phone, his heart started to return to his chest. He could breath a again . It was like time had stopped. Now time had resumed.he serviced.
  • He went back to the living room. “Did you talk to katie’s dad? ” Rob asked. “I did. He said yes. “Derek replied. “Congratulations. I am really happy for you. ” His farther said. “” His farther said. ” Can you wait until Christmas to tell her?”his mom asked.”that is my plan. I think I can wait until then” Derrek said.
  • End of part 23.

Christian romance

In sunday school, they had been the two smartest student. They knew all the answers. They should. Andrew was the son of the pastor. Amanda was the daughter of a deacon. They were in the same grade and we’re close to the same age.

“Some day you two are going to be maried. I hope you will invite me to the wedding!”miss granger the first grade sunday school teacher remarked. They both denied that they would be maried.they both knew that it would happen.

Then it all changed. Amanda’s farther decided to take a job at a Bible college on the other side of the country. On the day before she left, she kissed him on the forehead. ” Someday we will get married. “She said. They never saw each other again. Well up until this point.

Andrew and Amanda moved on. They forgot about each other.they went into very different directions. That was about to change. Andrew and Amanda went to the same Bible college. They had no idea that they had gone to the same college. They did not know that at first.

It was a week into the school year. Andrew went to a table . He sat down.he did not anyone at the table yet. He introduced themselves. The last person to introduce herself was Mandy. “Hi I’m Mandy. ” She said. “I’m Andy!”he said.

The conversation mostly consisted of small talk. It concerned classes and things of that nature. “So where are you from?”she asked Andy. “Everywhere but currently in Concord new Hampshire. Where are you from?”he asked her.”I too have been over the country and Canada. Right now I am living in Hastings Michigan . “She said.

They had no idea that they knew each other or did. “Where were you born?” She asked. “Outside at. Paul Minnesota. My dad was a pastor there.”he said. “I was born in at. Paul. My dad is a pastor now! He was a deacon at a church there. ” She said. ” What church was it?”he aske.” Biblically based Baptist Church. “He said.”my dad pastored biblically based Baptist Church . “He said.”what is his name?”she asked. ” Bryan Rollins !”Andy said. “Oh my! My dad is Philip gray. ” She said. “No! Amanda?”he asked.

“Well I have not gone by Amanda in quite a while but yes it’s me! ” She said. Andy was a bit embarissed. He had remembered the last time they saw each other. She was his kiss. It was on the forehead. He did not think it was appropriate. His dad told him that under the circumstances it was OK. Over the years he had never quite got her out of his mind. He did not think if her constantly. Every once in a while he remembered her.

Could he be dreaming? Was his child hood friend really right next to him. This seamed impossible. Yet it seemed to be happening. He could not believe this. He thought he would never see her again. Hear she was.

Mandy was really surprised. She never thought that she would ever see him again. When she was young that was the worst day of her life. She begged her dad not to move. He told her he understood that this was difficult but change is a part of life. Sometimes God moves people to a new place. He told her it would get easier. It did. She moved on. Life went on. She still though about him every once and a had been a long time since she came into her head.

She was shocked. It was not that unlikely that they would meet up eventually. It was still improve. Hear they were. It seemed like something far fetched. Hear she was. Hear he was.

“I can’t believe it’s you. This is unreel.” She said. “I know what you mean. How are you?”Andy asked. ,”Good. I am a pastoral major.”he said. “I am not surprised. I am a music major. “She said. “I think your mom played every instrument out there . I figure learning to play musical instrument was hardly optional.” He said.” No it was not. I play the piano and violin and a few other. You play anything?”she asked. “I tried but it did not go well.”he said.she laughed.

They talked for a bit. Then they had to go and get ready for there classes.”it was good to see you. “She said. “You too. I am sure we will see each other around the campus and in classes. “He told her. “I am sure we will.” She said.

Andy wondered if she remembered the promise they made long ago. They had promised to Mary each other. That was a long time ago. They were young. he wondered if she remembered. He did not dare to bring it up. It was a bit silly. Of course they were not bound to it. Besides she might have a boyfriend or maybe even a fiencae. They might not have anything in common.iteas silly for him to even think about this. He should out these things be out of his probably would never happen.he tried to put it out of his mind.

She could not believe she had seen him.she could not wait till tell her Perents that she had seen him. Her father credited his farther as the reason. He decided to pursue the pastor ship. Though they had lost touch , Andy’s family still had a place in her Perents hearts.  She wondered if he remembered there pledge to Mary each other. That was so long ago. What if he had a girl. He might be engaged.

They had plenty in Common all those years go.that does not mean they did now. This might be a mistake. Could they ever get over the past? Could they fall in love? Or would they simply love the thought of seemed like a bad idea.

Were they headed for love ? It was hard to know. Only time would tell.

End of part one

Arranged marriage

Aranged mariege was once a common thing. It was accepted and practiced without much scrutiny. It has fallen into disfavor. It is not commonly practiced.

Greg and Gloria foster were a bit old fashioned. They home schooled there kids. They had a fairly large family. They decided to arrange the mariege of there children. This was understood and accepted. To them it seemed normal. There two oldest son had been married in this fashion. They were successfully marieges.

Now it was time for there third son James to be maried. James had gone to Bible school and now was pastoring a small church. He was showing signs of sprituel growth and maturity.

Given that his marriage would be handled by his parents ,he focused his time at Bible college on preparing for ministry not trying to pair off. He was fine with that. He trusted his parents. They decided that now that he was established in ministry it was time to have him get maried.

James had no role in this process. He did not even know that they were trying to find a wife for him. They spoke to  various friends of there’s. They were carefully trying to vett the potential wife and her family. They left no stone unturned. They looked and after prayer, they believed that they had found someone. They were very pleased with the choice.

One day his Perents asked him to drop by there house. He had no idea why. That was not that out of the ordinary. He had lunch with them.”son we have something to tell you.” His mom said. “OK! “He Said. “We have been looking for a wife for you. “She said.”I was not aware of that.” He said.,”yes . We wanted to surprise you and we wanted to be able to make a decision without interference”his dad said. “Of course I understand. ” He said. ” Good. We have found someone. ” She told him.

He was really surprised By this. He had no idea that they were looking. He was also surprised that they found someone.  ” Her name is Jenny . She is quite lovely. I think you will  really like her. ” his mom said.  “She comes from a good family. I think she will be a really good match for you. ” His dad said.

He was totally Schocked. He believed that he would be maried. He had not given it a lot of thought. He focused on other things like his ministry. Now that his parents had chosen someone for him to Mary he was curious. What was she like? Would they be compatible? Would he like her? Would she like him. He could not get her out of his mind. He was excited. No one would he be going though life alone. He would have a partner a company ion a helper. Who was she.

The way the arrangement was ,he would not meet her until the weeding day.all he knew was her name. Other then that,he really did not know much about her. Really he knew almost nothing about her. His Perents liked her. He trusted there judgement.

He tried to get his house ready for her. The church did not have a paersnege. He owned a house. It had some land. He hoped she would like it. He had no idea what she was like. He knew nothing about her personality. Nothing about her interest.

The time of the weeding had arrived. He was not allowed to see her until the weeding. He was usually calm and collected . He was 23 years old but acted like he was 53 years old. His usual calmness was replaced. He had a  thousand different emotions all at once.he did know that by the end of the day he would be maried. He would meet his wife.

He had heard that she was in the building. He was kept in another part of the church. “Are you ready?” His best man asked. “I am not sure. I think so!” He said. The two went to the main part of the sanctuary. He knew those airing on the groom side. He did not know hardly know anyone on the bride side. He was not expecting to.

The music began to play. Various members of the party arrived. Then the wedding march went up tempo. There she was. She had brownish hair. She was five six. He imagined that she was probably In her early twenties. She seamed younger then him. At five nine he was taller then him. He did not care if he was taller but did take that into account.when the farther of the bride gave her to him.he took her hand. There eyes met for the first time. His heart raced. He wondered what she was thinking. He wished he knew. They went though the vows.the pastor declared them husband and wife.

She ones over. He nervously kissed her. The two kissed.  The ceremony was concluded. ” Hi there! I’m your husband!” He said. She chuckled. “I guess so! Hello my husband!”she said. She took his hand. They walked out to the reception area. The reception went well. He still felt that he knew next to nothing about her. He had not gotten to say much to her.

After quite a while, the two prepaired to leave. They went to her car. Her sister was put in charge of making sure that her stuff made to his to there house. They went to the car. “So where are we going?” She asked. “I got a cabin in Vermont. Is that OK?”he asked. “Yea sounds good.”he said. He opened the door to the car for her. Then he got in. He had a CD of hyms playing.  They were instrumental. She was not much for hyms or instrumental music.

“So what do you do? “She asked. ” They did not tell you. I am a pastor. I pastor a small church. “He said. “I am a pastor too!”she said. “You are?”he asked. “I thought you knew. I pastor Trinity united Methodist Church. ” She said. “Oh I figured you were independent fundimental Baptist. ” He said. “I assumed you were united Methodist.”she said.

“Let me guess you voted for Hilary?”he said.”I did. Did you vote for Trump?”she asked. ” Yes I did. Reluctantly but yes. I really wanted Ted Cruz but it did not happen.”he said. ” Your King James only right?” She remarked. “I am.”he said. ” You only sing hymns. ” She asked.”true. You observe lent?”he asked. “I do. “She said. They had trouble carying on a conversation.

The drive took a few houses. ” Look can I change the music?” She asked. ” OK!” He said. She put on k-love. It was a CCM station. He was not really happy with it but decided to let it go.he supposed it would take ajustment for the both of them.they did not say much to each other for a while. He was starting to wonder what he had gotten himself into.

Why would his Perents pair him off with a Methodist minister. It made no sense. Yet hear he was. He was not sure how this going to go.

End of part one.

Word from the lord part 12

Derrek was the court son of Bryan and Anna Carlson. Both of them were from berry traditional Baptist backgrounds. Bryan’s farther was a pastor. So was Anna’s farther.her grandfather was a missionary. Derrek grew up in this world. It was in Manny’s way all he knew.

Some have characterized the independent fundimental Baptist as engaging in a kind of second degree separation. They tend to seperate from those who made not separated. They favor the King James version of the Bible to the exclusion of others. They rejct contemporary Christian music. They prefer hyms. Derek was saved when he was young. He came to agree to the view of the I.f .

Tom never liked the strict nature of the I.f.b. he never doubted that Bible but questioned the I.f.b. he attended an I.f.b college but did not graduate. He floated form denomination to denomination until landing at a penticoadtal church where he ends up meeting his future wife. his relationship with his parents became straned for a time. He reconciled with them. He apologized for his earlier rebellion. Tom and Derek had always been close. They did not want to discourage that but feared him influencing Derrek.

Derek grew in the lord. The lord had his hand on his lord. Derek was able to stay close with Tom and with he lord. Tom was proud of his brother. Derrek had devote himself to serving the Lord. He had not told anyone but he had wanted to be married. He was content to wait. When he first met Katie,he took no stock in it whatsoever.

Katie had enjoyed spending time with the Carlson women on Thanksgiving.she was afaid of Edna Derek grandmother. Even that day they had become close. They would continue to be close.they corusoo red frequently on the phone and on line.

She became close with Nancy as well. Nancy,Katie and denese formed a kind of in law club. They looked froward to seeing each other. She was close with Anna the lady that would be her mother in law. “,I really appreciate you inviting me ” Katie said to her. ” I M so glad you came. I know you miss your family. I want you to know that you are a part of our family. We are blessed to have you hear. I mean that!” She said.

” That means a lot to me. I think so much of Derrek!” She said.” I can tell! You need a lot to him. I can tell. He may not be able to say it yet but he does feel that way. ” She said to Katie. ” I know how he feels. ” Katie said.

The football game ended. His grandfather went over to him. ” So Derrek do you think that you will marry Katie? ” His grandfather asked. ” I do sir!” He answered. “I thought as much. ” The older man said.” I do need to tell you that she is penticoastal. We have discussed it at length. She is open to embracing independent fundimental Baptist. She has been. A huge encouragment to me!” He said.

” I was not aware of that. Thomas did you have a hand in this?” His grandfather asked. “They did meet at my church. That was the extent of my participation.” He told his grandfather. “Anna and I have been very impressed with her . We see no reason not to support this. ” Pastor Carlson said.

“Your certain you can trust her?” Everit Carlson asked. ” I trust her implicitly. I have no doubt that she will be a help not a hinderence in my journey. I know she will be an asset in my future ministry. “Derrek said. “I will give her a chance!  ” The older gentleman said. ” I appreciate that!” He answered.

The guys walked into the house. Derrek heard the sound of laughter. Derek went over to mom , sister in law’s and Katie. She was not aware that he was there at first. There there eyes Met. He smiled at her in a way he had not previously. She smiled back. Things like this contract confirmed in her mind that they should be married.

Katie got up and went over to him. Derek went over to her. He gave her a great big hug.he was not expecting that. He was usually very scremish about physical affection. Even earlier in the day they had not engaged in physical contact. It was different now.

He held on to her for a few seconds. In the rare times they engaged in PC she initiated. She wispered in his ear. “Are you supposed to do that hear?” She asked. ” No not at all!” He said with a big grin on his face.

” I understand your penticoastal?” Everit Carlson asked.”yes sir I am!” She answered. “Are you alright with being married to an independent fundimental Baptist who wants to start I.f.b churches?” He asked. “Yes I am. Derek made it very clear from the beginning . I understand that and respect that. I have come to appreciate the I.v.p.” she said.

“Do you see yourself changing your views on. Speaking in tongues?” The older Carlson asked. ” To be honest I don’t. It could happen I suppose. I have told Derrek that. I have also pledged not to attempt to alter his views!” She said.” I was curious of your views on this!” The elder pastor Carlson said.

Super consisted of turkey sandwiches. Then Derek and Katie went over to the porch. This was a tradition for them. He took her hand. He put his arm around her. “I hope they did not grill you too bad?” He asked. “No it was not too bad. I understand where they are coming from. Besides your time will come. You still have to meet my family!” She said.

“I know. Will pastor graves go easy on me!”he asked. ” It will be fine. Provided you don’t refer to him as pastor graves. ” She said. “I will keep that in mind.” He said. ” I really like your family. ” Katie said. “I think they really like you. ” He said. “I hope so! I tend to shake things up. I tend to come in like a hurricane!” She said. ” Perhaps we will balance each other out. Kathy you will make me more outgoing and I will make you less so!” He said. “No promises on that!” She replied. He laughed.

“When I first met you, I did not take the whole prophetic words seriously. I totaly dismissed it and rejected it. I wanted to run for you as far as I could. “He said.” I am not surprised. You seemed pretty nervous. “She said. “That did not concern you?”he asked. , I figured you would come around eventually. If noti could always bring you to the alter at gun point. “She said.” I have no comment on that one!” He said.

“I had no plans to see you again. I figured that would be the end of it . “He told her. “What changed? “She asked. “I am not sure. Curiosity perhaps. I think I wondered if maybe there might be validity to what you said. I am not really sure. ” She said.

“You suspected that there could be validity? ” Katie asked. ” I began to. It was a very slow process. I tried to explain. It away In my mind. I can be obstinate. “He said. “I can see that. I still love you. ” She said.   He chuckled.

“For a long time there was a battle going on in side me. On the one hand I struggled with the whole word thing. How can. I as an independent fundimental Baptist possibly believe that the lord would use such a vehicle to Advance his will. I really wanted to dive right in. These two views were diametrically opposed to each other. At times it drove me  batty. Sometimes I went back and forth. ” He said. “I have seen some of those Paturns. ” She said.

“I loved Seeing you interacting with my family today. It seemed natural. are part of my family. You are my family.i am not sure I fully realized before today.” He told her. ” She feared herself on his shoulder.

“I want you to can trust me. I committed to the lord a few years ago.i also committed to who the lord had for me. When I met you I Just knew. You can. Trust me. I know your afraid I will be some kind of leader of the opposition . Part of the consequences of eves action was that there wouldbe constent warfare in the home. I believe that God can heel that. I understand some of the objections you have. I am mindful of that. I hope that we can work on it and though it. ” She said.

“We are going to disagree alot. I guess I am worried that we won’t be able to sort it out. ” He said. “We do disagree on a few things. I respect that you are the spiritual leader of the family. I pledge not to under mine you especially in public. You will be a pastor ,an undershepared. I see my role as your wife as your partner, helper ,suporter and encouragement. I see a public and private role. I believe any disagreement should be  handled in private. We have things to work out. None of them are deal breakers. “He said.

“I agree with that. Then you will commit to keeping private things private?” He asked. ” I do my life!” She said. ” Marying me means marying into independent fundimental Baptist. That includes our theology customs and history. Are you OK with that ?” He asked.

“It will take some getting used to.waring dresses or skirts will take some getting used to. No public tongues is another. As long as I can practice it in private it will be fine. I am glad that I can still listen to k love in private. I have switched to KJV . That won’t be a problem. ” She said.

“I had no idea you had switched to kjv!” He said to her. ” I wanted to try it out on my own. ” She said. ” Understanible. As I have said I intend to starting.f.b churches. That means hym singing at home. I might listen to CCM with you on occasion.” He said. ” You will?” She asked. ” I will give it a try. ” He said ” ok! Will you explore my world. Have our world’s merged into one?” She asked. ” Yes. I will!” He said.

“I want to get to know you wharts and all. You have to let me in. I know your private but you can’t be secretive with me. ” She said. ” I will try to be open with you!” He said. ” Try?” She asked. ” I will open up more!” He said. ” OK! ” She said.

” I find it hard to open up. ” He told her. ” I don’t get that. Why are you so private? ” She asked. ” I am not sure. Perhaps because I come from a big family. I am a pastor’s kid and grandkid. I have been the quiet one I. The family.” He said.

“Your not as confident as you would like people to think. ” She said. “That’s true I guess.” Derrek said. “I knew that. I don’t get it. Your smart ,godly thoughtfully and I sughtfull. ” She said. ” I am still trying to figure you out. You are a complete mystery to me miss Katelyn Madison graves. ” He said.

“How so?” She asked. “Your a life long penticoastal. Your dad and grand kid are penticoastal ministers. Why do you suddenly agree to marry into a Baptist family?” He asked. ” It’s God’s will. That is my reason. ” She said. ” How can you be so sure?” He asked. ” My sprit confirmed it when I first met you. It keeps confirming it. ” She said. “What if you got the wrong person ? What if a guy sitting next to me was the ricepient? ” He asked. “You are ridiculous!”she said. ” I suspected you had a silly side deep down!” She said. ” Not that deep down!” He said. “Now Im scared. ” She said. ” You should be . ” He said.they laughed.

Word from the Lord part 11

Katie was nervous and exited . she walked to the door. Derek saw her comming and opened the door to greet her. She smiled when she saw him.
Derrek had already had a busy morning. Rob and Nancy and there kids arrived the day before. Derrek did not get to bed the night before until 11:30. He had lost track of time. He had got up fairly early. His grandparents arrived at 7:00. They lived an hour away. Tom,Denise and there family came around 9:00.between the full house as well as preparations for the meal, the house was a mad was a controlled chaos though.
Despite the chaos,Bryan and Anna Carlson loved it. They both  looked forward to having the family under one rooth again. They loved the sound of activity. They loved being parents and grand parents.
Everyone was catching up. Edna Carlson,The grandmother  saw a car pulling up. “Someone is hear” she said. Derrek had lost track of time. “Oh that’s Katie!”Derek said. “Who is Katie?”his brother Robert asked. His face got beet red .
“She is well I gues my girlfriend. “Derrek answered. “I was unaware that you were seing anyone. “Robert said. ” I was unaware of that myself. I am pleased to hear that. I was starting to suspect that you might have been called to singleness. “His grandfather said. “I felt that the Lord had someone in mind but I did not want to rush it.”he said. He was really nervous.
Derrek went to answer the door. He smiled.she responded with a smile of her own. “Hey kaetels come on in. ” he said.
He opened the door for her. He followed her inside. The house was a buz of activity. It was present sounds. She took off her coat. Derek put it on the coat rack. They walked to the living room. Both were really nervous.
“Grampa, grandma this is katie.” Derek said. Pastor everit Carlson was a long time pastor who pastored several churches over the years. He had retired several times .now he had come out of retirement again to pastor a church.
“This is my grandparents, pastor everit and Edna Carlson. “Derek said.”it’s good to meet you. ” katie said. “It is good to meet you.” Edna said. Katie guesed that everit was probably in his 70s. Perhaps in his mid to late 70s. He was six feet talk. He was not obese but not thin either. He looked imposing. At least to katie. Edna was roughly around the same age as her husband. She seemed very friendly.
Derek then introduced her to his older brother. “This is my oldest brother Robert and his wife Nancy.”he Said. Rob did indeed ware his signature cardigan. He then introduced her to Rob ‘s wife Nancy.
Katie found that she was a bit overwhelmed. There were so many people. She tried to keep her whist about her. She was sure that she could get though this. These would be her in laws after all. She could adjust.
“I was unaware that Derek was seing someone. ” Edna commented.”how long have you been together?” his grandfather asked. “Sense September well infirmormily at first. ” katie said.”I see. Then it is serious? ” Edna aske. They looked at each other. “That was what I thought. ” Edna said.”I gues I knew it would happen eventually. ” Rob said.
“I take it that it has been a while sense Derek has dated someone. “Katie commented. “A very long time. “Tom said. “There is a family joke that he was called to be single.”Rob said. Derek face was as red as it could possibly get. “I never believed that. I was certain that he would someone or someone would find him. ” Anna said. “I thought that as well. ” Edna said.
Dinner was served promptly at noon time. Anna had everyone come to the dining area. Anna put the baby in her high chair everyone sat down.
“Dad will you give the blessing?” Bryan asked. He had Everyone join hands. Derek took Katie ‘s hand.
Katie smiled as she took his his other side was his brother Peter. She took rebeka’s hand. His grand farther thanked the Lord for his goodness and thanked him for the food.
“How are things going at western bible college? “Pastor Bryan Carlson asked. ” very good. We are having one of our biggest freshman class . we have an increase in the pastoral program as well. Are things going well at fundamental bible colege?” Rob asked. “They are. We have a good size freshman class this year. We have quite a few transfer students as well. ” Derrek said.
” so why dud you chose fundamental Baptist over western ?”katie asked Derrek. ” he was afraid I would be harder on him then the other students. ” Rob said. “He would have. ” Tom said. “I did consider it. I liked the school hear.going to fbc,I could live at home,I could keep my job . I was active in the church and there was the Christian service reqyirement as well. I could keep teaching Sunday school and apprentice under my dad. It made sense to stay hear. ” Derrek said.
“I really wanted him took come to w,b,c but u understood. ” Rob said. “We are very pleased how the Lord is working in your life. “Nancy said.”just stay from Tom at least when it cones to theology. ” Rob said. “I believe the fundamentals of the faith. “Tom said. “” your fine Tom.” Rob said.”I love you too Rob.” Tom said.
“Are you a student Katie?” Edna asked. “Yes I am but not at f.b.c! ” katie answered. “Oh!” Edna said. Tom decided to bail her out by changing the subject. She was quite appreciative.
After everyone helped clear the table, Sarah and Rebecca did the dishes. The guys took out the trash.then they went outside to play flag football. Kathy felt a little out if place. She saw Denise and Nancy talking so she decided to sit next to them.
This was a world she knew nothing about. She felt Like a foreigner. Could she ever belong in this world?
“Can I join you?” katie asked. ” please do” Denise said. Nancy went over and gave her a hug. “Welcome to the family. ” Nancy said. “I am not quite part of the family yet. ” Katie said. “You are part of the family. You definitely fit in. ” Nancy said. ” thank you. ” katie said.
“So your very different. Are you two friends?” katie asked Denise abd Nancy. ” yes we are. The first time I met her, I picked her abd rib up from the airport. Tom told me how struct she was. I was so nervous.”Denise said.
“Rob warned me that Denise would probably become slain in the Sprint several times when we met. ” Nancy said.
” we hit it off almost immediately. Poor Rob did not get a word in edgewise. ” Nancy said .” do you think I wik fit in with the family ?” katie asked. “Absolutely! We are hear for you. ” Nancy said. “Thank you I appreciate that. ” katie said.
Anna came over. ” is dad playing ?” Denise asked. “Yes. I try to tell him that he is not as young as he use to be. The boys have promised to go easy on him.” Anna said . ” they do tend to get into the game. ” Denise said. ” this is a Carlson family thanksgiving tradition. Sence we dint have a television our family improvised. We play it in real life. ” Anna said. ” maybe you should suggest fuzeball!” katie said. ” we have. At least we convinced grandpa to just watch. ” Denise said. “Agreed” Edna said.
“Bryan is starting to realise that he is getting older. ” Anna said .”so us everit. I keep reminding him. He us 77. He is in good heath though. The Lord is good to us.” Edna said.
“I think that the Carlson family is ready for another wedding. ” Denise said. “I agree. No pressure. I am excited about the prospect of another wedding. You will have plenty of prospects for flower girls. ” Nancy said. “I see that. ” she said.
“Have you two disused marriage?” Edna asked. “A little bit. We don’t have a time table or anything. We have talked about it. We both have a couple if years left before we graduate. I would assume sometime after that. ” katie said.
” do you feel called to be a pastor’s wife?” Edna asked. ” I had not really thought about it before I met Derrek. I was open to it. I am excited about it. Derrek has a passion for church planting. It has rubed off on me. I have caught his vision. I am excited to be a partner in this. I do play the piano. I have other gifts and abilities I feel will be an asset to the team.” she said.
“It has been a passion of his for a few years now. “Anna said. ” I think we will make a good team. ” katie said. ” so where Are you a student at?” Edna Said. Katie knew she would have to answer this question eventually. ” I attend a Pentecostal college” she said in a hesitant tone.
“Oh! How did you two meet?” Edna asked. “They met at our church.Tom had been begging Derek to visits .they met at a Saturday night service. ” Denise said.
Katie was really nervous. She wanted Derek grandparents to support this. ” your Pentecostal?” Edna asked. “Yes I am. Derrek is committed to independent fundamental Baptist.  He has made that clear. I believe that he is to be the spiritual leader if the family and I would be fully behind him . ” katie said.
Katie feared that she lost Derek’s grandparents. She feared she could lose the support of Derek’s parents. She believed In honoring ones patents. If his parents did not want them to be together then they should not.
“Katie has demonstrated sprituel growth and good character . we we’re a bit surprised when they began to socialize but we are both very supportive of them. ” Anna Carlson said.
Katie was shocked. Katie was not expecting Derek’s mom to go out on a limb for her.  She hoped that his grandparents would support it.
“So you really like katie?” his grandfather asked Derek.” I do sir!” he said. ” I thought so. ” his grandfather said.  “So which one of us gets to be your best man? ” Rob asked. “I have no ideas . maybe I will let you two figure it out or a game of darts or something. Or I will ask Pete !” he said. They laughed.
Derek had not really took the word serious at first. He figured that katie would fade away as part of his life.that had not been how it was.without his fully being aware if it she had become part of his life. He became more accustomed to get being part of his life. He looked forward to seing her. The anniversary of Jason “s death had been a turning point for him. She forced him to face his loss. He needed to face it . as he was playing football he realized that he was going to Marry her. Not only that he realized that he wanted to.
End of part 11 .
