Chapter four the summer.
Nick came home form college having no idea what was about to happen. He was not expecting anything. He was just coming home for a few weeks before he went to camp.
He felt something for Kelly. This started almost immediately.he enjoyed talking to her. She did not suspect that he felt this way.
Sense he returned ,he had talked to her quite frequently. He looked forward to the time he had spent with her. She liked to talk to him. She saw him differently then He saw her. He believed that She would one day be his wife. She did Not see any of this.
She Was not thinking that way. She did not see him as a potential husband.she was not thinking marriage . before she was saved she was happy to just engage in casual relationships. That has all changed now. Her focus was different now. All things had become new. She was not thinking any kind of relationship now. Later maybe but not now .
“So! This is your last Sunday?”Kelly asked.”yes! I am leaving tomorrow morning!” he said. “Are you excited about it?”she asked. “I am. The first week is all getting ready. The camper won’t arrive for another week .”he said.
“It is s teen camp?”she asked. “12 to 18!”he said. “Witch age groups do you leed?”she asked. “It changes from week to week. One week I will be in the kitchen. “He said.”I see. “She said .
After the service they Said there goodbyes. “I hope you have a good Sumer. You will be in my prayers!”she told him. “Thank you. I will be praying for you as well!”he told her. Then they separated.
He found he was going to miss her. He knew that he would see her again. It would not be that long . he knew that God would use this time apart. There was a reason for it.
The next day he got in his car and drove to the camp. It was a six house drive in another sate. He got there about the time He has planed. It was a busy week. He had worked hard to get the camp up and running .
He had some time to himself on Saturday. He took out his cell phone and dialed Kelly’s phone. He was a bit apprehensive but called her any more. He took a breath as the phone rang.
Kelly did not really think about Nick throughout that week. He did feel his absence in the Wednesday night mid week. She found she missed him that day.
She had no idea that he was about to call.she picked
up the phone and turned it on. “Hello!”she said in a confused tone.
“Kelly?”Nick asked.”Nick? Hi! I did not know you had my number!”she said.
“I got it from the church directory. ”
He told her. “Oh!”she said. “Is that ok?”he asked.”yea that’s fine. Its just that I look hideous in that picture. “She said.
“I looked worse! ” Nick said.”I don’t know about that!”she told him.”I miss you!”he told her “really?’she said “yea I did. “He told her.
“How are things?”she asked.”good! Campers come tomorrow. “He said.”are you ready for them?”She asked.”I think so. I got the pree teens this week!” he told her.
“I see! “She said. “We have a really good staf this year. “He said.”that’s great. “She said
They talked for a while.”well I should probably go.I really wanted to call and see how you were doing.”he said.
“I am glad you did. It was good talking to you. Have a good week !” she told him. “Can I call you next Saturday?” he asked.
“If you want to?”she asked.”ok !I will talk to you then. Have a good week!”he said.”you too!”she said
She was surprised that He called.she was not expecting him to.
A week later,Kelly did not expect him to call. She dismissed what he Said.it was not that she doubted his integrity but she knew that he was busy . she believed what he was doing was important.she was ok with him not.
Around the same time as he had the week earlier, the phone rang.she found she was excited. She was surprised by her reaction. “Hello!”she said.
“Hey kel! “Nick said over the phone.”you called?”she said. “I said I would. “He said.” I don’t want you to deal obligated !”she said .”no you misunderstand me. I want to talk to you. “He said .”oh ok!”she said.
“How was your week?”he asked. “Good! Work is going good. How was your week?”she asked.”good! I led a kid to the Lord this week.”he said.”awesome!”she said.
“I had been working with him all week. He got saved on Thursday.not a lot of time to despite him but I know a good church where he lives. I gave a head up to the youth pastor he is going to follow up. “He said.
“I am glad to hear that. “She said. “This week I have older teens.should be interesting. “He said.”you have kids from church and non church?’she asked.”yes.we get more church kids.we try to reach out to non church. Later thus Sumer we have a sports week that get more unchurched.we try to do both. We try to evangelize and equpt. We have to do two things at once. I think we need both. “He said.
“I agree. As someone who got saved In a church service I can see that. I think you can do both. “She said.
“I am really surprised you called me?”she remarked. “Why is that?”he asked.” well you are at a Christian camp with probably very spiritually minded people.they have given up there Sumer to serve. I assume that many are bible school students.yet you decide to call me. I don’t get it!”she said.
“I don’t know you well but your very tender to hearing God’s voice. You seek to please him. You have a longing to know more. I get the impreson that you are one hundred percent convinced of God’s goodness and want nothing to do with what you were!”he said.
That was true. Sense being saved her whole world view and methodology changed. She changed how s he thought.the only thing she really struggled with was smoking. All attempt to quit had been unsuccessful.
“Do you really believe that?’she asked.”of course I do. I would not have said it if I did not. “He replied.”I am not sure everyone at church ser it that way. When I first went to church I was very worldly.I thought acted and dresed like the world. Even after my conversion change in some areas was gradual. I think they still see me as the worldly girl. “She said.
“Give it time. Don’t let it discourage you. Keep on seaking the Lord. Strive to be pleasing.”he said.
“How do you see me?”she asked.”I see you as someone who is growing.your Faith is defiantly not stagnant. “He said .
“I fail a lot. I don’t see it that way!”she told him.”there is always going to be push back. The old nature is not going to just go away. A righteous person falls seven times yet riseth again. He that has begun a good work in you is able to complete until the day of Christ. Sanctification is a process. “He said.
“Why I can’t just wake up sprituel and that be the end if it?” she asked.”I would love it. It will.one dat we will be like him. Until that say we have to strive to be more like him. Sometimes it takes baby steps. Smal steps in the right direction. “He told her.
They talked for a while. “I should be going .”he said.”I am glad you called. It was good talking to you. “She said.”same hear. Don’t Give up ok?”he said. “I won’t!”she said.”I miss you!”he said.”I miss you !” she said.
He called the next week. He called the next. The week after that she got excited to hear from him. The time he usually called came and nothing. She checked her phone to make sure the phone was on and charged.it was. The ringer was on. His ring tone was the halujuh chorus but she had not told him that.
There was nothing. Why was he not calling. Had she done something.had he met someone he would rather talk to. She decided not to go down this road.
She went outside and had s cigarette. As she was smoking the phone rang. She answered it.”hi!”she said.
“Sory I’m late. “He said “it’s ok. “She said. The early part of the phone call was awkward. It did not go well.Kelly wanted it to be over.she never felt that way.
“Look I am Sory about being late.I can tell that you are a little upset!”he said.”I am probably not in the right on that.”she said “no I understand. I don’t think it is iligitimeate. “He said.
“I look forward to our talks. I love your dad and the church. It is nice to talk to someone who sees me as an eaquil. You talk to me like you would talk to anyone else. I don’t want to lose that.you have become a close friend. I hope you see me that way?”she said.”I do. “He said.
“I am not mad just a little upset. I will get over it!”she said.”I understand !” I am Sory. I hope I can ‘re earn your trust. “He said.
“Its ok. I am a bit upset.I will be ok. Thank you. “She said.
The next week things were back to the way they we’re. They were in a good relations again.
End of chapter four.
I did not mean to make Nick out to be a perfect Angel. He is a sinner saved by Grace.
” honor thy parents”
Nick desired to be married and kids .he was determined not to rush things . no one understood why he had not dated anyone. Opportunities presented themselves but he always baked off.
He always felt the sprit telling him no. He felt that he could not go down that road every time.he did not believe he was called to be single. He believed that when the time was right,he would feel free to procede. He would wait patiently.he had peace that when the time was right, he would know.
When he saw Kelly at the desert table he got that feeling.he knew that the heart was deetfull. He would never trust something like that just on a feeling. He would not force it. He would wait.
On Monday he was reading first Samuel. He was reeding the story of Samuel anointing david. God had rejected the other brothers. He felt like God was telling him that Kelly was the one. He prayed for quite a while.
He believed that Kelly was the person he should Mary. He knew that God never contradicts his word. The home is an instition that proceeds the church. Though Nick Did not understand why his farther was aposed to even a friendship between the two,he felt obligated to obey. Until his farther premiered contact,he felt he could not procede. He could not Why God would bring someone to him his farther was not keen on. He believed it would work out. He would not dishonor his parents.
He waited until Wednesday morning.he went into his dad’s study.”can I come in?”he asked.”of course!”he said.
“Dad I am worried about Kelly. I fear that she is not connecting with anyone. I fear others keep her at arms length. I did not see her before she was saved or after. I imagine it was a difficult transition. I am sure she stumbled. Probably badly at Times. I did not witness that. I see her in a very different light. I understand why people would be stand offish. ”
“I respect your admonition to stay away from Kelly. I have connected with her. I would like to talk to her at least at church. “Nick said.
“Some in the church are uncomfortable with you being seen with her.let’s face it your a guy she is a girl. I understand there concerns. She has made strides in her walk with God but we can’t ignore where she was. “His farther said.
“I gues I see things differently. Had I not known she was a New convert I would have thought she was someone who has been a Christian for a while . look I will hounor your wishes.I ask you to let me talk to you.I will not be alone with her. I want to be able to interact with her.”he said.
“This is not like you. “David Brandon said. “I know. I feel strongly about this. “Nick said. “I trust you. You have purported yourself with intregrety.I don’t quite understand this. Be careful. Ok I will allow it. “The elder Brandon declared.
“Thank you dad! “He said. His farther surprised. Was there more going on. Nick just met her. Was he interested in her romantically? He had not dated or courted anyone while he was in bible college. There seemed to be a few prospects but he did not Pesue any of them.his farther suspected that he liked her but decided not to ask further.
Nick hated to do that. He felt that it was needed.
He was not ready to tell his dad the other part. He did not want to tell anyone that part. He stil felt that this was not the time.
That night was the Wednesday mid week service. Nick was not sure how to proceed. He knew his dad would a low him to interact with Kelly but he did not want to push it.
He came in and said hello to several in the church. He engaged them in conversations. He saw Kelly.
She smiled when she saw him. “Hi!”Kelly said. “How are you?”she asked. “Good ! You?”he asked.”doing good. I am sure pastor Brandon is keeping you busy!”she said .”he is. I expected it. I enjoy it.”he said. “Do you feel called to be a pastor yourself?”she asked .”I do. I want to do what my dad did. I want to go to an area where there is no strong church presence and start one. “He said.
“I understand before gospel Baptist church, there was a Unitarian church and a u.c.c congrigstional church?”she remarked “yes. The nearest bible believing church was an hour away. “He said.
“Had g.b.c not been started. I would not be hear. I would stil be lost in my Sin. I gues I have a vested interest in seing churches started in least reached areas. Stic with it!”she said .”I plan to!”he said.”good!” she said.
He tried to make the contact brief. Every time he talked to her the more convinced He was that she was “the one” He was also convinced that now was not the time. Certain things had to happen first.
Every time he did talk to her,he could tell that many in the church were uncomfortable with him talking to her. He could tell. He felt that if someone was in Christ they were in Christs. Everyone who was redeemed was part of God’s family.they were equal .Nick felt eaquil is equals or it us not.
Nick saw Kelly in a very different light. He saw someone who loved the Lord.he saw someone who was serious about her walk with God. He had no idea why no one else saw it. He hoped others would see it as well.
Kelly had no clue that Nick felt this way. She thought that Nick was just being nice. She liked him. She was not thinking what he was. She was not there. She might not believe it if she did.
End of chapter three
“The son of the pastor.”
Nicholas James Brandon was the oldest son of pastor David and Kathy barret Brandon. Nick had been saved at a young age.
He grew up In the church. It was in high school that he got serious about the Lord. He decided to go to bible school. He felt led to be a pastor like his farther.
He remembered hearing about a young lady who started coming to church. He mentioned her in pray time in the dorm and at prayer meeting. He was happy when she made a decision for Christ.
He met her a few times before while on break.now he was home for the Sumer. Well at least until he start his Sumer ministry.
He was happy to have a few weeks off before He went to work at a Sumer camp. He knew that the weeks before he left would hardly be a vacation. He would be buisy preaching, teaching ,going on visitation and door to door. Everyone would be happy to see him. He did not like being the center of attention. He knew most of those in the church sense he was young and he liked them but he did not like all the attention.
Everyone wanted to see him.he was certain that he had talked to everyone in the church. There was one person he had not talked to.
It was at the desert table that he met her. She was funny. He lost all tract of time when he talked to her.he found her easy to talk to.
Neither one realized that almost everyone had gone home . when they saw the near empty room, they realized that it might be time to leave.
He went to the parsonege. “Nick can I talk to you?”his farther asked.”of course dad!”he said.
“Some in the church expresed some concern about your talking to Kelly!”David Brandon said. “I wanted to get to know her. I had never really talked to her before. “He told his farther.
“She is stil a New Christian. Her walk with the Lord is stil developing. She had made incredible strides. The Lord has done a good work in her no doubt . I am confident that this will continue until the day of Christ. She has a way to go as we all do. “He said.
He added,”you have always comported yourself very well. Sometimes I think you were born forty. You are still male. You are a guy and she is a girl. You are on a different tract. “He said.
“I just met her today. This was the only time that we have talked. I really do not know her. “Nick said.
“I understand that. You did not do anything wrong or inapropriate but some might misinterpret it. Perhaps it would be best to back off for a bit! Don’t let anyone despise thy youth. The Lord wants to use you. I believe there is much for you to do. “He said.
Nick was not sure what to do. He believed in being above bored in words and action. He took holiness very seriously. He believed in avoiding the appearance of evil. He believed that it was important to not do anything that could be misconstrued.
At the same time he believed that the church is made up of everyone in it. Everyone is vital. Everyone is equal in the eyes of the Lord. Everyone plays a vital role in the body of Christ. Ephesians.Romans and first Corinthians make that clear.
Kelly as a blood bought child of God had a role to play .the Lord saves people and gives them a part to play. She had a part to play.
Ad someone who was not around her,she saw her in a different light.he did not see her pree salvation. He did not see her in the early days of her walk with God.he was glad of that. He could judge her as she was now. It was easier for him to see progress.
He did not want to disrespect his parents. He valued the consil of both his parents.they were wise and godly. He valued there wisdom.he wanted to talk to her more. He found her refreshing. Perhaps he should back off.
They went back to church that night. It was for the evening service. Nick was preaching that night. He continued the theme he preached on in the morning.
The problem for Nick was that he felt like he was preaching to himself how could he reconcile his father’s request and the fact that Kelly was a part of the church. He felt like he was a hiprocrit.
After the message,he joined his farther at the door. He engaged the church people as they left. They ecpresed how much they liked his message. He tried to always give God the glory.
He was frall at times. he enjoyed accolades. He tried to remember that the only Prase that really mattered was please from the Lord.
He saw Kelly in the line. He smiled when he saw her. His thoughts betrayed him.he hoped that his father did not see it.
He had no idea why he had that reaction. He did not intend to smile when he saw it. It just happened. Well that was how he saw it.
He shock hands and engaged in mostly smal talk with people as they walked out. Then Kelly came.
He felt like he was being watched.both by his Dad and by those in the back. He found it uncomfortable. He tried to not show it. It felt like time had literally stoped.
He shock her hand. There eyies met.”you gave me s lot to think about!”she said .”I am glad!”he said
Kelly avoided phrases like I enjoyed your message. She did not like empty words. She really did find the message thought provoking and challenging.she wanted him to know that. She wanted him to know that his message was used by the Lord.
She sensed that the Lord was preparing him for service. She sensed that the Lord had a plan for his life perhaps beyond what he himself was aware of.
“I hope that the Lord did use me to speak to hearts. “Nick told her. She agreed.she shock the hand of the elder Brandon . she left .she went I. Her car and drove off.
Nick played basket balm with his dad and brother. Then he did some bible study.
That night he had difficulty falling asleep that night. He thought about Kelly. He began to suspect that she would factor in his life. He was not sure how but he sensed she was.he was not ready to tell anyone.
She had no clue about any of this.she found him interesting. She saw him as humble, wise and godly. She did not see anything beyond that. She had no idea what was going on behind the scenes. This was a begining . of what was unclear.
End of chapter.
Chapter one when pastor’s son meats girl.
Nicholas Brandon was the oldest of five kids. He had a brother and two sisters. Nick ‘s farther had pastered gospel Baptist church sense his farther founded the church when he was six years old.
Nick got heavily involved in the church . he had run the church’s sound syistom. He had bean a song leader as well.
He felt called to preach as his dad was. He preached his first surmon at age 15.
He was a student at An independent fundinentle Baptist church in north Carolina. He was going into his junior year. He was not home for very long or very often. Not nearly as often as his mom would like.
He came home for a few weeks before he was off to Christian camp for most of the summer.
Kelly did not get all the fuss that was made about his return. The church was excited to see there favorite son. Many in the church knew Nick when he was little. They watched him go from a slightly michevious boy who got a little too exited to a mature Godly man who emplified intregrety.
Kelly knew nothing about any of that. He had been away at school or involved in some summer ministry . all she knew of him was the stories. The legend of Nick was strong. Kelly was not as caught up in all the hub bub associated with his return. She had no connection to him. She thought she might have met him in the early days.
Nick was preaching in his father’s place. She was disipounted that his farther was not preaching.he was doing a series on every time the bible uses the phrase,”I shall be there God and ye shall be my people!” she was enjoying the series and regretted that it was being interrupted.
She liked the younger brandon’s message. It was in how everyone in the church was called to ministry.she knew that that was true. She was not quite sure how she fit in into the scheme of things in the church.
After the messege there was a church fellowships. Kelly quickly learned that a church fellowship was Baptist speak for a dinner. She discovered many church functions was centered around food.
She did not really want to stay for the dinner. She knew that everyone will want her to. She decided to.
She felt like an outcast. She was not like them. Her first 19 years were strict adherence to worldly values. She had no church background prior to the first visit to g.b.c. she had a combination of instant transformation and slow process. Some worldly habits had not been conqured as quickly as some in the church would prefer.
She did not live in the culture of the church.she did not know the unwritten rules. Many in the church had grown up in this church or a like minded church. She often felt out of place.
Ususly she enjoyed these diners. There were Manny in the church she enjoyed . this dinner was different. The attention was all on Nick. Everyone talked to Nick.Nick was the center of attention. She felt more of an outsider then she had before. She just wanted it to be over. She would stay until it was polite to leave.
She found it hard to talk to people today. When she did, everyone talked about Nick .she felt awful.she just wanted to go home.
She went over to the desert table.she did not feel like desert nut decided to get a small peace. There he was Nick.
He was tall. He had brown hair. He was clean shaven. He still had a Tie on but had removed the jacket.his selves were rolled up. She figured he would have no interest in her. She did not want to be rude.
“Hi”she said in a slightly uninterested curtisy manor. “Hello you must be Kelly!”Nick said. “That’s me!”She replied. “I have heard a lot about you!”he told Her.”oh no!”she said. “My dad told me about this girl who starting coming. My dorm bible study prayed for you. We were prety excited when you got saved !”he said. “I did not know that! “She said.
“My dorm bible study included at least eight different churches all over the country. A lot of people we’re praying for you!”Nick said.”I had no idea! Makes sense. It was nit long ago that I was the old me. It seams like a million years ago!” she said.
“That is the power of the holy sprit. Its prety incredible!”Nick said. “It is. I have seen it first hand !” she said. He invited her over to a table. They Sat down.
“So! You had no contact with church before you got the John Romans packet?”Nick asked. “None. I probably did but I don’t remember. I was not an atheist st least I would not think if myself as one. It just did not factor in to my life. “She said.
“How did you react when you first got a packet?”he asked. “I threw it in the trash. I was not interested. I found out later That the lady who put the packet In my mailbox felt compelled to give me another one. This one I did read. I did not accept it right away .the word did not return void. “She said.
“When we pass out tracts,we never know what impact they will have. Some times we never know this side of heaven !”Nick said. “I am glad Kathy listened to that stil smal voice telling her to deliver that second packet. “She said.
“Atnt you warm? It is in the eighty and your Waring a long sleeve shirt!”he commented. “I have tattoo on both arms. Some in the church are a little uncomfortable with them!”she saidm.
“So you roost so they can be comfortable. Even though most already know. “He said.”I am uncomfortable that they are uncomfortable!”she said. She was shocked that she had said it. She realized she just blew any chance of being friends with Nick .
“Understandible. “He said. “Man does look on the outside I am afraid”she afraid. She decided she had blown it with him so she decided to speak her mind.
“They should not. All who are in Christ are in Christ. It is not right or fair. “He said.”I figured you would agree with them. Tatoos seam to have been condemned in Leviticus. I have not gotten any sense I was saved. Should Christians have tattoos,I have no clue!”she said.
“I am with you there. It is unclear. It is not a big deal. God desires all to be saved. All Christians who are. Are eaquil in His eyes.” Nick said.
“Do you really feel that way?” she asked. “I do! I would not say it if I did not. I don’t mince words Kell. “Nick said. “I am glad to hear that !”she said.
They kept talking for a long time. Almost every else had left. They decided they should leave. “It was good to meet you!”She said. “I am glad I got a chance to talk to you. “He told her.
Kelly was mad at herself.she thought She blew a chance to be friends with Nick. Nick felt the opposite. He was quite impresed with her. He hoped for a chance to get to know her more.
End of chapter one. .
Kelly had been as worldly as they come. She had lived by the course of the world. She never broke the law. She had tattoos,She swore, smoke ,drank and had tried drugs . those were hardly seen as taboo in today’s society. She had done things the world would view as good.
She did not consider herself an atheist. She believed that there was probably a God. That was as far as it went . it did not factor into her every day life.
Then things changed. On a Saturday people from gospel Baptist church an independent fundinentle Baptist church dropped a packet containing the book of John and Romans with key verses highlighted.
After a series of events she eventually made it to church. Her clothing and initial manerism were a bit of a surprise to old fashoned traditional people.
It took two mouths of her attending the church for her to be saved. The pastor preached on mankind being without excuse. His primary text was Romans 1:20. He then charted God making clear his existence and how He wanted msn to live from genesis to revilation. It was in that surmon she surrendered his heart to Christ.
Things started to change. Her life took a dramatic turn. Soon old things had passed away. All had become new.
She became saturated with the word of God. The church had given her a chopy of the king James version of bible. She could not get enough of it.
While things were not always easy.while there was a dramatic change In her life some parts were not as obvious. At Times she felt out of place. While she loved the church and the people, she did not quite fit in. At times she felt out of place.
Then she met the pastor’s son. That would eventually change everything.
End of part one.
