This is now part three

Sense becca and jim broke up, she kept buisy runing her dad’s bookstore.she decided that she wanted to move closer to jim and hus church. She decided she wanted to marry him. She lived by proverbs 31. She did some reserch. The owner of a christian bookstore near jim wanted to divest his ownership in the store. She contact him.

She wore a gray shirt, green skirt and flip flops. She arived at the store. She walked in. “Bill! “She said. “You must be becca. ” he said. “Yes. Its good to meet you.. ” she said.

“As i said on the phone, i have run this store for 25 years. My son and his family live in Florida.  They have been beging me to move closer to them. I do not want to abandon the store.  I would like to divest but stay part owner. ” bill said.

He have her a tour. “I have a whole section of bible. While to many christian book store, bibles are an afterthought but not hear. I separate bibles from bible resources.  I looked at your stores website and saw that you only carry king james.we do cary other versons. There is a lot of interest in king james in this area. I dont know if you know pastor jim at faith church but he is a big king James guy. ” bill said. “I know him. I see you have a lot of king james. I like that. ” she replied.
“This is our resource section. I screen the books i sell.  I avoid any books that promote text critism, higher or lower. My principle is not to sell anything that questions the veracity of the word of God. ” bill said. “That definitely came though on your website. I appreciate that. ” she said.

“I avoid reform writers especialy in commentaries.  I do have reform writers in other section.  ” bill said.

They came to the music section. “This could be a sticking point. I see your book store only sell sacred music.  I do sell ccm. I listen to k love and have it playing in the store.  “He said.

“I saw that you sold ccm albums.  I dont to radically change your store. I understand that it has a different culture from faithful bookstore.  I dont intend to turn it to ours.”he said.

Then they went to his office. “So why the intetest in buying into my store?”bill asked.” well i want to move hear. I would like to be established hear. I see the bookstore as a ministry. I would like to have a ministry hear. ” she said.

“What bring this desire to move hear?” bill asked. “I would like to be closer to my fiancée.  “She answered.  Jim had no idea that she was hear in town. She ans jim had kept in touch via text and facebook sense her visit.she did not want him to know she was coming . she wanted to surprise him.

He was in his office when he got a text from her. “Where ate you?” she asked. He texted her back. “In my study at the church. ” he answered. He got another text.  “Look out your window. ” it said. He was confused. He did as she requested. He saw her car.

He ran out and she hugged her. “What are you doing hear?” jim asked.”i wanted to surprise you. ” becca answered.  “Im definitely surprised.  “Jim replied. She smiled. “A good kind of suprise?” she asked. “Yes. Very good. ” he said.

“I am really glad to see you. ” he told her. He had a big smile on his face when he told her that.  ” want to grab a bite to eat on me?” she asked. “Yes to the first part. As to the seccond i got it. ” he said. “O-k!” she said.

They went to a resturant. “Look jim, i was opposed to breaking off the engagement back then. You needed to sort all this out. You were a bit unstable. You are stable now. You are firmly established in what you believe.  You know who you are. I have changed as well. I have done some maturing at least i believe. I have. Sence the last time i spoke to you i have been praying and reeding scripture and i want to resume our engagement.  I want to be your wife and helper, partner, suport system.i want this.  I am sure of that.  ” she told him.

Jim was shocked . “bec i am not opposed to resuming our engagement.  In fact i really like the idea. I need you to know that i shaped the church in a way that i felt honored the lord. I left some evenlugical culture in place. I have focused on doctrine ,morals and modesty to the exclusion of orther issues.  Music is one of those issues.  I dont see the need to alter that.  I stil believe dreses or skirts is prefered atire for ladies but i don’t mandate it. ” he said.

“I assumed that was your policy. I. Not going to change your church.  I want to be tour helper.i know you.i know you put the policies you did after carefull consideration with a lot of prayer. I trust you. I work to work with you not against you. I like  your church, i really do. I want to be a part of it. I believe i have gifts and abilities that can be an aset to the church. ” she said.

“I can’t believe i am saying this but i really like the worship team. They do a good job. ” jim asmitted. “I gathered that.  ” she said.

“The isues we faced before still exist.  There is rhe issue of your church and your family and myine. I am sure your parents will object. You could be a periah. ” he said.

“Do you not want to be with me?you seam to be trying to push me away. “She said. “I just want to make sure that you understand the full ramifications of your decision.  ” he told her.

“I do jim. I see God’s hand on your life. I see him working in faith bible church. I want to be a part of it. Let me!” she pleaded.

Jim thought about it. “Faith church is very different. It is nothing like what your used to. It will require a lot of adjustment.  I am not sure you are prepared.  ” he told her.

“I am probably not. Thats ok. I will adjust. I will get though it. ” she said. “I do want to marry you. I have wanted to sense the first time i met you. I have to be certain your certain. ” he said.  “I understand that. I am totally sure. I am as sure as ruth was when she pledged herself to boez. You know how carefull i am when i speak. I do not say it lightly. I have given it a lot of thought. ” she declared.

“I know you dont do things unless your sure . unless you have put a lot of thought into it. I have always lived and appreciated that about you. Not to go all john macarthur on you but i feel i have to make it hard for you to follow.  This decison will affect your entire life. ” he told her.

“I realize that. I never ecpected you to reference john macarthur.  I understand the ramification of this. I am committed to this. I do it hapily!” she said.

“Are you totally sure? “He asked. “Yes. I am totaly sure. ” she said with a smile on her face. “I am sorry to grill you. There is biblical presidence Joshua final adress. ” he said.

“I thought that was where you were going with that. Do you want to grill me on my doctrinal stance or can we be engaged again?” she asked.

He considered her words. He thought about it for a minute. She did not like the awkward silence. She knew that was how he did things. This was how he made decisions.  She would be patcient and would wait for him.

“Do you want your old engagement ring or a new one?” he asked her.she smiled.  “I would like the old one ” she said. “Ok! I know right where it is. When will you be in town again?  ” he asked. “Well i am curently working on negotiating to buy part of bill braket’s book store. I will be hear frequently.  ” she told him.

“You want to buy a share of bill’s bookstore?” he asked. “I do. I love runing the store om hagervile. I really want to move hear to be closer to you. I want to get more involved in faith church. I like his bookstore. ” she said. “What would you have done if i had said no? “He asked. “That was not an option.” she told him.

“Next time your in town we will get reengaged officially.  Your my fiancée again.  ” he told her. She smiled. He hugged her. ” i know i can fill in your gaps. I believe i can be a blessing.  ” she told him.

“I know you will. ” he said. “I am so happy. ” she said. “What will your parents say? Your dad will hate to lose you at the bookstore.  ” he said.  “I know. I hate to leave but i am sure i am called hear.  I am sure of it. I can’t  stay where i am. I mean that figuratively and litetaly. I need to be hear . i need to be with you. ” he said.  “Ok. “He said.

They walked out hand in hand. They said there goodbyes.  She drove back to hagervile. She had to tell her farther. She had become the head of day to day operations for the store. She would be leaving the store.

“Dad we need to talk. “She told him.”ok. Pumpkin.  What is it?” her farther asked. “I reconnected with Jim.  He is pastoring a non denominational church in foster. We want to start the engagement.  ” she told him.

“Ok. I have always liked jim. I was sad when we left our church and joined the evengelical movement.  I felt that the lord has had his hand on his life. I am glad he is pastoring a church. When the engagement was broken off,  i suspected that it was not foever. I thought you reconnect.  I can suport this. ” he said.

“Thank you daddy but there is more. ” she said. “I knew it. ” he said. “I want to move to be closer to him. I want to be involved in his church. I will need to step away from the bookstore.  I want to buy a steak in a bookatore near the church. ” she said.

“I gues i knew you would not stay hear foever. I loved working akongside you. I am excited for you and your new adventure. I am going to miss you. ” he said. She hugged her dad.

“I am pleased that you are continuing the book store tradition.  Your not too far away. “He said. “I will visit you and mom as often as i can. ” she said. “You will do fine!” he said.

After a series of back and forth on the phone becca worked out am agreement to buy a share of the bookstore.  She would drive to foster to conclude the deal. She could begin the groundwork for there life together.  She was excited.she saw the lord at work.

She drove to foster. She had a good meeting with bill. She worked out an agrement with bill and a time table for her to become general manager of the bookstore. She now had direction. She had a plan. She was pleased with all of this.  Things were comming together in a way she never planed.

She liked this bookstore.concluding the deal was only part of the reason she came to foster. She got the business side of her trip out of the way. Then she could focus on the orther reason she came to town.

She met up with him at the resturant. She saw him. “How did it go?” he asked.  “Great.  In a mounth i will oficialy take ovet as managing owner. My dad is sad to see me move but us happy for me. “She said.”congrats. I am happy for you. ” he told her. “Thanks. I am excited as well. It is an exciting new chapter ” she said.

The dinner went well. Becca wanted him to hury up and reperpose. She wanted to once again ware the engagement ring. She wanted him to get on with it. She wanted to know he was really in this. She knew he had this thing about timing. She tried to be patcient.  She waited for years. She was not up on being patcient.

“Do you want desert? ” she asked. “Not really. ” she said. What she really wanted was for him to perpose again. She did not want to be distracted by disert. “Are you sure?  Thr chese cake is amazing hear. “He said. “Not tonight. “She said. Ok.no desert then. ” he said. She chuckled.

He took care of the bill.  She got a little agitated. She did not want to say anything.  She wanted him to initiate this. She really hoped that he would not let her drive back to hagervile without getting engaged. She wanted to go home engaged. She waited a little bit longer.

They walked outside. She almost did not hold her hand but she did not want to be like that. She tried to remain calm. It was not easy. The two neared the car.

She was about to open the door when he stoped her. “Wait! “He said. She stoped what she was doing. “Yes.” she said. “I know you dissagreed with my breaking off the engagement.  We may never fully agree on this.  I am not sure. I was not as strong in my faith back then. I needed time to figure things out. I believe that i am in a stronger place spiritually.  I believe i am now ready to be married.  Will you marry me?” he asked.

“Yes! Absolutely!  ” she said. She huvged him. She did not want to let go. She just wanted to cling to this moment and to him as long as she could.  “You ok hunnie? ” he asked. “I was afraid that you were not going to perpose again. I am happy you did. I just want to be close to you. ” she told him. “Sory i waited.  ” he said. “Its ok. I am eager to begin our life together and ministry. ” she said.

“I can understand that. ” he said. “I just needed to know you want this as much as i do. ” she said. “Breaking the engagement was gut rencing and awfull. I thought if i left that world i would have to fully leave that world.  It killed me breaking up with you. I did not do it hapily. I just did not want you to see my tears. I thought of you constently. I almost called you a hundred times.  I never stoped loving you. “He told her.

She hugged him. “You dont know how much i needed to hear that.  Dont take this the wrong way but i kinda wanted you to be miserable. I wanted you to desire us to get back together. I never gave up the hope that we would get maried. Now i understand why. ” she said. ” i am glad we are doing this!” she said. ” me too. ” he said.

To be continued.

Unlikly couples part four

The next day, pastor Becky arived at the church. She went to her office. She saw a series of flowers on her desk.  “Whats this?”she asked. “Oh. It is for you.”her asistent jill said. She looked at the card. “To pastor becky. Hope this britghens your day. You have brightened myine. ” it was singed pastor craig. She chuckled.

“Something you want to tell me becky?”Jill asked. ” he is a freiend?”she said.  “So is he the reason you went to hagervile?”she asked.  “Yea. He was the one that came to our church a few weeks ago.”Lilly said.

“Are things serious between you two?”jill asked.”i dont know. We did just meet. He is a fundy. I meen hatd core. “Lilly said. “Oh! He has not run for the hills?”jill asked. “Quite the opposite.  “Lilly said.  “You have not run for the hills?”jill asked. “No i have not. Should i?”lilly asked.

“I have never seen you like this. ” remarked.  “I have not felt like this i. Some time. ” lilly said. “Your bot afraid it cant work?  You two are destened for dissaster?”jill asked. “No i am woried about that. ” lilly asked.

“Why are you not runing for the hills?”jill asked. “Becuase i dont want you.” lilly said.  “I figured. Well i hope it works out. I really do. “Jill said. Lilly did not say abything but she hoped that too.

Later on in the day. Craig called her. “Hi craig!”she said. “Did you get the flowers?”he asked. “I did. Thank you so much. They were beautiful.  It was very thoughtfull. “Lilly answered. “I hoped it was not too soon. ” he said.”no! Your timing was perfect.  “She said.

She wondered what he ment by two soon. Was he thinking that they were a couple or would be someday. What was he thinking? Did he think that they had a future together. Did he want them to?

“I’m glad. Your not alurgic. I almost asked you but. I did not want to give away the secret. ” he said. “I am definently not alergic to flowers.  ” she said. “I am glad you like them. ” he said.

She found that he had a way of calming her. She liked that about him.he knew how to sooth her. The more she got to know him the more she came to love him. She admired him. She found him to be kind and gentle.

Though she was known as a strong leader at her church.  She was confident and competent.  She coukd be forcefull. She has wisdom and was good at stratigy. He had goals and had a plan to bring them to fruition. To outsiders she seemed to be all bussiness all the time. She was a workahilic.

She seemed to be all work. She had no real social life. When not involved in church activities she was involved in comunity and civic events. That was not the real her. Craig started to see a different side of her.

They rearanged there shudule so they could get tohether on saterday. Saterday morning they got ready for sunday. Saterday afternoon they would spend the afternoon together.  It was his turn to come see her.

She made chicken salid sandwitch. She made a chese cake for desert.  She brought chips. She liked to bake . she did not do it much. She was constently on the go.

He met up her at a park. They usualy did not engage in hardly any public display of affection but she hugged him. “How is the surmon coming?”she asked. “Really good. I am preaching on finding peace with God. My primary text is Romans. 3:24 but i am going to go though several ddifferent. verses.  You have it easy.  All you do is follow the lectionary. ” he said.

“Yes the topic is assigned.  I can have the fredom to take it where i will. I put my iwn personal touch. It is usualy a bit vaugue. ” she said. “If the topic or passege of scrupture is assigned mounths in advance by some luturgical body somewhere, where does work of the holy sprit come in? I dont know how many times my entire surmon has changed sometimes minutes before the surmon begins.” he said.

“God is a God of order. Lectionary is a tool that can keep a preacher from avoiding rabit trails. By designating the pasege it reduces the risk of preaching a pet peve. ” she said.

“I am careful not to go on a rabit trail. I dont know if i could never get use to having my surmon topics assigned every week. At bible colege i waa asishned to preach from seccond chronicles 7:14. I believe that was for the original readers not directly given to twenty first century america. The professor felt differently. I avoided the promise and dealt with it in the context of israel. I delt with getting right with God and his restoration while avoiding the promise aspect. I got good comments from the proof. He felt i should have tied it to america. Oh well!” he said.

“I take it you are big on independence of the local church?” she asked. “Yes. I believe that local churches shoyld be self governed.  I dont believe that churches should be islands.  I meet up with area fundamental pastors. My dad is a pastor and i stay in touch with him. I keeo acontible with an area pastor i should consider a sprituel farther.i do believe in acontibility. ” he said.

The picnic was a huge success.  He loved the chicken salid sandwitch.  She did not realize he could eat. He was thin . Almost too thin. He did eat. She wore a gray shirt and green skirt.she had removed her flip flops. The day was going great. Then he had to say it.

“What are we? Are we dating?” he asked. “No! Lets not go there!”she said. She seemed nervous, agitated. “I dont understand “he said. “I dont want to go there yet. We realy enjoy eachothers compony. I know i love being with you. I think you enjoy spending time with me. ” she told her.”i do. Very much so. “He answered.

“Once we try to figure this all out then its gets complicated. We have to deal with the eliphent im the room neither one of us knows how to. I know we are going to have to deal with all of this but i dont want to yet.i dont know if we can sort all of  this. “She said.

“Im sory. I did not meen to upset you. Your right.  I probably should have waited to ask. I got curios. “He said. “Its ok. This is a fantasy isn’t it. Your a separatist Baptist,i am a welcoming united Methodist.  We are entranced in our denominational ideologies. It is crazy to think we can make this work.  One of us would have to leave there world and embrace the other. I dont think it could work long term without it. ” she said.

“You believe for our relationship to work long term, one of us has to give up our dream?” he asked.  “Dont you?” she asked. “I gues your right. “He said. “You would want me to be the one to resign? You dont see female ministers as legitimate.  Of course i should be the one to quit. ” she said.

“I dont believe bibilicaly women should be pastors.  God is creator and redemer, he gets to decide how his church is governed. God designed men to be in leadership even before the fall. “He said.

“I disagree.  Yes it does say the bishop is to husband of one wife. That is an example.  There is no explicit command that a pastor must be male.”she said. “That is a bit of linguistic gymnastics. “He said. “I dont think so.  How do we make this work? Can we realistically? “She asked.

“I dont know!”he asked. “I figured. “She said. “I am sory i brought it up. I did not meen to upset you.”he said “its ok. I know that. Why did you show up a week later? You could have gone back to hagervile and we could have never seen eachother again. Why risk it all?” she asked.

“I dont believe my stoping at your church was an acident.   I was not lonly or inconplete or any of that before i met you. At least i did not think so. I did not perposly remain single during the last few years.  I believe i needed to focus on the ninistry. Focus on establishing the church and establishing myself. I believe God work on the best timing, his timing not ours.  Meeting you was the highlight of that whole trip. I could not stop thinking about you. I dismissed it at first but i knew there was more going on. ” he said.

“I will never be your dream wife. I am not exactly independent fundimental Baptist.  I could not get out of that world. You can take me out of the pastorate but i wont be your kind of wife. Thats just not who i am.  You would not be happy as a united Methodist pastor’s husbend?” she said.

“Is that you want? Me to resign from gospel Baptist  and be a pastor’s husband? ” he asked. “I could not ask that of you.you believe that this is God’s caling in your life.  I would not want to undermine that. So where does that leave us? A masive stand still. ” she said.

“Would you rather have had me not come back a week later?” he asked. “It might have made life easier. It would have been simpler.  No i wouldn’t. That would have made me sad not to see you again.  ” she answered.

They tabled the conversation for a while.  There was a voly ball net set up. They played for a bit. They each won three games.  He decided he should head back. She made him promise he would call when he got home. She worried until he called.

“Hi bec. Im home!”he said. “Good im glad. I did have a good day with you. I love spending time with you.” she said. “I had a good time with you.  I love hanging out with you. ” he said.

Things were complicated between them. They both knew it. Neither one knew how to solve it.  Perhaps there was for another time.

To be continued.

This is now part two

“So are you dating anyone?”jim asked.  “No . i am not. ” she said. “You should.  Your an amazing godly women. You will make a great wife. You should be open to finding someone. “He told her.

She had no idea how to respond to all of this.  Why did he say that? Did he have no interest in her? Why was he pushing her to move on? Why did he want her to mary someone else.  She found this disconcerting and frustrating.  She tried to remain calm but she found it dificult to do so.

“I am at peace.  I trust that the lord will provide a husband at the proper time. I am content. I seeno need to get nervous about it. “She said.

“You will be a great wife!” he said. Why did he keep saying that? She thought to herself. It irked her. She wanted to be his wife. Why was he pushing this?

“Your not seing anyone?” she asked. “I am too buisy. I believe i can date a sister in the church.  It is problematic.” he said.
“You dont regret not marying me? “She asked. “We were heading into different directions.  Two canot walk unless they be agreed.  You would not be happy in this world. I would not be happy in yours. It was not ment to be. “He said.

“I dont agree. I dont think i ever will. You should have trusted me. You should have given me a chance. ” she said.

She did not want there reunion to be like this.  She did not want them to fight. She just wanted to be happy with him. Despite her hurt she stik had strong feelings towards him.she still loved him.

He had no idea how to respond to what she said. “You have to admit that we were heading in different directions.  Your patents were have never suported it. It would have been a mess. I did not want to make you chose between your family and me. I still believe in parental oversight of marriage.  I did not want to put you though that.  ” he said.

“When you perposed i said yes. I pledged myself to you. I knew you were unhappy with fundamental bsptist policies and procedures. I knew you might distence yourself from the movement and gospel baptiat church.i committed to go whever you went. You just left. You did not give me a chance.  I did not have a choice. “She said.

“If i had, would you have gone with me? Would you havel left fundamental baptist and gone to an evengelical church? Would you disappointed everyone at church and at the college?  I was not sure who i was. I had to figure that out. “He said.

“I would have gone with you. I was prepared to fo just that.  I knew it would have been hard. If my parents had withdrawn there suport i would have tried to sit down and talk to them. I still wanted to Mary you. I knew you were not leaving the faith. Im sorry. Im sory i did not want our reunion to be like this. I am so glad to see you. “She said.

He smiled. “I am so glad to see you.  I missed you. ” he admitted. “I am so glad your pastoring a church. I liked seing you playing a guter. Never thought i would see that.  “She said.

She did not want to leave but it was getting late.  She had a ways to go. She came to see the reunuon not as a accidental occurence but a devine appointment.  “I should be heading back. ” she said.  “It was good to see you bec. Look call me as soon as you get home. I want to know home safely.  “He told her. “I will i promise!”she said.

She could tell that he did still care.  It warmed her heart. He walked her to her car. “Dont be a stranger. Feel free to come back to the church any time. “He told her. “Thanks i think i will. “She said.he hugged her. He planed for it to be a quick hug but becca was not quite ready to let him go. The embrace continued before they let each other ago.

“I will see you around. “She said. “Im glad. I want that.” he said. “I do too. “She said. They started to disperse. They went there seperate ways.  That would not be foever.

On her ride home, she kept thinking about jim. Something was stired in her.  Her family and church had encouraged her to date again. They even tried to set her up with someone else.  She recoiled at every turn. As she drove home ,she began to realize why. She still wanted to marry him. She was just not sure how to convince him of that.  Would he want her back?

When she got home, she called home. “Hi. I made It home. ” she told him. “Hey bec. Im so glad. I was woried.i figured that you would be fine but i was still concern. “He told her. “You do still care about me?”she asked. “Always!” he said.

“Im so glad to hear that. ” she replied. “Seing you today was the hilight of my day. Some things don’t change do they?” he asked.  “No they dont.” she told him. ” it was really good to see you. I missed you.  ” he said. “I am so happy i got to see you. ” she said.

Becca had a warm feeling about seing him. Something was stired in her. She would not let him go this time. Her feelings for him had not change. Mayby back then was not the right time. She was begining to think now might be.

Did he feel the same way about her that she did about him? He was a different person. Could it work? She felt an urgency about this. She realy wanted to get back together with him. She knew it involved change and sacrifice. What relationship did not.

During mid week bible sunday pastor jim as he was called, was flooded with questions.  He expected as much. “So who is becca? “Ben asked. “She is an old friend from my fundy days. “He said. “You are just friends?” another asked.  “Well! …”he said.

He was suprised by his church’s interest in her. He kept to business iness. He poored himself in the church. He did not make time for much else. Seing him with her peeked there intetest.

They saw a different jim. He was task orientated.  He was qiet. Around her he was different.  He was relaxed.  The church loved there pastor and he them. They wanted to see him happy.

When becca got home, she was not at peace.  She had no idea Why this meeting had such an impact. One day she read devotional about how isack found his wife.  She felt stirred. She felt luke God was about timing. He did things in the right time. She felt this was the right time.

To be continued.

Next up becca decided to move to the same town as jim.

“This is now!”

James ball grew up in the independent fundamental baptist church. His dad was a pastor. He knew becca Lynn most of his life. They went from acquaintance to friends then from friends to close friends.  They started a formal courtship right before they went to bible college.

He had gotten permisson from her farther to formerly purpose marriage.  They planed the wedding, there life and ministry. Then it all changed.

James grew up very tradional. Some would call him old fashioned.  He was hardly armish. He liked to snowmobiling.  He played video games. He liked cqr racing games but not ones like grand theft auto.  He was opposed to contemporary Christian music. He only listened to the old hyms. He did not own a tv.

Things changed for him. He became disillusioned with the independent fundamental baptist movement.  He believed in seperation but felt it could sometimes go too far.  There was an incident that broke the canmels back. He was very close with a cousin that attended a non fundimental church. His cousign asked him to be his best man. The church alowed ccm. Whem his colege learned that he did that, they sactioned him. He had to resign his post in student government and as a dorm supervisor.

He did graduate.  His reputation was somewhat tarnished. He did keep being involved in his farthet’s house. His views were not as strong as they use to be. Despite these strugles, his relationship with becca remained strong.

Becca’s grandparents were missionaries to the philipines. Her farther was a deacon and Sunday school teacher.  He also owned an old fashioned Christian bookstore that only caried sacred music, king james bibles ans refused to cary any books asociated with reformed theology.

Becca was a few younger then jim. She had always admired jim. Even qt a young she could tell that he was serious about his faith.  His faith continued to grow. Her admiration for him also grew. No one was suprised when they did date.

When they made there relationship official, they did it with the expectation that they would be maried. The church also had the expectations as well. She got excited for wedding preparations.

She had gone with him to the wedding of his cousign. Both knew coming in that it would not be an i.v.b ceremony or reception. She knew he was very brothered by the school sactioned him. That incident made him questoned everything.  He tried to shield her from that.

She was commited to separation and to the i.v.b. he was afraid to engage her on all this. She tried to talk to him about it. Everytime she tried to engage him,he froze up. He eventually decided to leave his father’s church and severed all ties with the i.f.b. he did not feel that he could drag her into this.

He decided to break off the engagement with becca. She was devastated.  The local church and area i.f.b were in an uprour. There had been presure on her to break it off. Her family put pressure on her as well. She tried to talk him out of it. He would not budge.  After the breakup they went there seperate ways.

Jim started attending the same church as hie cousign.  They starrted a setilite church to there home church. Eventualy the church asked him to become there pastor.

Becca took over day to day operations of the book store. She was active in her church. She became a chior director.  She was kept buisy. There was potential suters but she refused there entities.  Her parents tried to get her to move on.she went on one date. She regreted it.

Her parents were concerned.  They realy wanted her to move on from jim. She could not. She secretly hoped that she would one day get back with him.

One day becca was driving back from a confrence. She wanted to find a church to atend on her way back. She found faith church.she parked the car.

She went inside and sat down. A young women came over to her. “Hello welcome to faith church. ” she said. She gave her a welcone pakege. Becca thanked her.

Becca noticed that while everyone dressed casualy, they were dresed modesty and neat. The service began.she saw the last person she expexted to see. It was jim. He wore a butoned down shirt . he wore jeens. She had lost touch with him.

“I would like to welcome you to faith church. To our visitors,i would like to give you a special welcome. Im pastor jim. We are a unique church.  I hope you will enjoy your time hear. I hope the lord will speak to you though what goes on hear . ” he said.

He made announcements and gave an opening prayer.  The worship team came up to the podium. Jim played the guitar.  She chuckled. The music was ccm.

Jim preached.  She did not realize how much she missed his preaching.his preaching style didnot change.she missed his preaching. She missed his booming voice.  His doctrine did not seam to change.  She missed him. He stil put buterfiles in her stomich.

After the service she tried to see him. There were a lot of people there. It was hard to get to him. She realy wanted to see him. She really did not want to leave hear without seing him.he was talking to people whenhe saw her.

He was shocked. “Will you excuse me?” he asked. He went off to see her.”becca?” he asked. “Hi jim.excuse me pastor jim. “She said. He hugged her. “What are you doing hear?” he asked.

“I was on my way home back from faithful women’s confrence and was looking for a church to attend. “She said. “It is good to see you. “He said. “Your the pastor?”she asked. “Yes. Marcus and i founded this church as an off schoot of grace church. Marcus moved on to start new churches. I was voted pastor. ” he said. “I enjoyed your surmon. It brought back memories. ” she told him.

“My preaching style realy has not changed sence my time at gospel baptist church. I stil preach from the king james. ” he said. “I see that. “She said. ” we are not a kjv pnly church. I only use the king James. ” he said. “I am very glad to hear that.” she told him.

“Reports of my becoming a liberal have been greatly exaggerated. ” he said. “I never thought that you became a liberal. “She said. “You didn’t? ” he asked. ” i know you better then that. Jim. Pastor jim.i know your heart. I know where your conviction were.  ” she said. “I am glad of that. I feared you would think ill Of me. ” he told her. “Not at all. You are serving the lord. I am glad of that. ” she said.

“Look i know i have some driving to do.care to go out for cofee? We can chat a bit. I would love to catch up. ” he said.  “I would love that. “She said.

“I can’t believe your hear?” he remarked. “I cant believe im talking to you. I missed you. ” she told him. “I can only imagine what your perents would say if they knew you had gone to faith church or that you had seen me” he said. “How are things between you ans your perents? ” she asked. “We are stil close. I talk to them almost every week. We dont about church. They dont see my pastorate as legitimate.  I think in there eyes i back slid. This is worse then joning a biker gang.” he said.

“You have not realy changed doctrinaly.”she said. “No i realy have not. I believe in a form of seperation. I have not abandoned my core principles. ” he told her. “I see you are the same you i have always known.”she said.  “Thank you.  That meens alot. I would hate if if you thought i was a liberal. ” he said. “I see evidence to the contrary.  You have my suport. ” she said. “I am pleased to hear that bec. I take my walk with the lird seriously.  ” he told her. “I know that. I have never thought otherwise. ” she said.

“I am glad to hear that. I imagine that many at gospel baptist church feel differently.  “He said.”you have ylur detractors. I have never been one of them. ” she said.”i am glad to hear that. ” he said.

“Why did you break off the engagement?  “She asked.  “Bec you are the epitome of the i.f.b. you would not have followed me to evangelicalism.  If you did you would not have been happy.  I figured we would end up breaking up Eventualy.  Why dalay the inevetible! ” he said.

“Our breakup was not inevetible.  I commited yourself to you when you perposed. I knew you were having doubts. You never gave me a chance. You should have trusted me. ” she told him.

“I figured you would not have wanted to go with me. You are prety traditional.  I did not want to back yoy into a corner. Your parents would have never alowed it. I cant believe you would have agreed to go with me. You would not have been happy in my world. ” he told her.

“I believed i was called to marry you. I had reason to believe that you were called to be my husband.  I emotionally invested in our mariege. I wanted to be maried to you.  I was prepared to go with you. ” she said.

“I could not have put you in a situation where you had to chose between me and your parents.  That would be unfair. “He said.

“In trying to protect me,you put me in a worse situation.  You abandoned me. I wanted to marry you. ” she said “she thought to herself, i stil do but decided not to say it out loud. “I understand your position.  It was not going to work out. I was not going back to gbc or tje i.vb. you belonged in that world.”he told her.

“I knew once you left you would never be coning back. I was ok with that.  You should have given me a  chance.  ” she said.

As they talked, a group of younger people came over to them.”pastor i dont usually see you hear on a sunday night?” he said. “No ben i usualy dont come hear on Sunday night. “He said. “Who is this? “Kevin asked.  “This is becca. ” he said.

“I take it your old friends? ” ben asked.  “You could say that. ” jim answered. “I had no idea you knew ladies existed. ” kevin saidm”i take it your not curently romantically involved with anyone right now? “She asked. ” no he has notm ” ben said.

Becca was glad to hear that.  She never fully gave up on the relationship.  She was glad he had not dated someone else. After a while the church people left.

“So are you dating anyone? ” he  asked. “No i am not. ” she said. “You should.  Your an amazing godly women.  You will make a great wife.  You should be open to finding someone” she said.

She had no idea how to respond to that. Why did he say that? Did he have no interest in her? Why was he pushing her away? Why he want her to be happy with someone else. She found it discouraging and frustrating.  She tried to remain calm.

To be continued.

Unlikely couple part three

I went back to hagerville. It had been a good day. I was not sure what would happen next. Both of us were prety much winging it. It was quute a day. Quite a day indeed!

Another week went by. I was busy with church activities. I was enjoying my work. I was enjoying doing the work of the lord.

I was in my office. It was my day off but i was catching up with some paper work. I wanted to do a couple of things and then i will take the rest of my day off.

I heard the door open. I was not sure who it was. I left my office. It was becky. “Hi there reverend becky. Your still hear! You did not melt!” i remarked. “Funny! Hey pastor wallice! ” she said. He laughed.

“I got you an ice cofee. Its mocha three creams two sugars! ” she saidni smiled. “Thank you. I appreciate that! ” i told her. “No problem!  ” she said.

“What are you doing hear?” i asked. Using air qoates she said that she was in the neighborhood on bussiness.

“The truth is i wanted to see you.i thought this was your day off?” she commented. “It is. I Am a bit of a workaholic i guess. Are you in a rush to get back or can you hang out for a bit. I would love to give you a tour of the area. There is a park we can hang out in. ” he said.

“Sounds great! I would love it. ” she replied. “Awsome!” he said. The two left the church building.  “My car or yours?” i asked. “I will ride in yours. You probably dont want to ride in a car with a united Methodist bumper sticker. ” she said. “Oh ok,we will go in myine then. ” i said. She smiled and said an exited ok.

They headed to the car. I got in the drivers seat and she got in the passengers side of the car. I started the car. The car headed out.

“So originaly we met in my house. Then in the town hall. Then we brought this building. It was an ice cream store and a dance studio.” he said. “That is quite a change!” he said. “Yes it is. ” he said

We came to my street.  “This is my street. This is my house. I got some mony from my grand parents esate.i decided to buy land and the house. Its smal but nice. There is some land. We actualy had some services outside in the early days. There is room for a garden and kids could play in it. ” i said.

What was i doing.was i really hinting at domastic life? Aperently i was. “So. Did you buy the land with thoughts of being maried with kids?”she asked. “I considered it. “He said.

“Then you do want to married?” she asked. “I do. I am prety buisy . i have not had time to date. I dont feel comfortable dating someone at the church. I dont want to date a non christian. I would like a partner in the ministry.  My house coud use a women touch. “He said

They went to a bridge. He showed her various sites. Then they went to the park. They sat at a table. “So do you want to be maried?” i asked her.  “I do. I worry that i am just too dominering. I am woried most men would be intimidated by me. ” she said.

“I dont know, there are plenty of demure men in the united Methodist churches. I am sure you can find someone. ” he said. “Funy. You think anyone can put up with me?  ” she said.  “Your not so bad! “He said.

“You think i will find someone?  ” she asked. “Yes i defiantly do. You will be a great wife and mom. ” i told her. “How can you  be so sure?” she asked. “I just know. ” he said.

“I would like to find someone who is not afraid of me. Someone who can tame me perhaps. I dont know if he exist.  Do you want a quiet damure wonen?” she asked.

“No not necessarily.  I believe in male leaderahip but that does not meen my wife needs to be pasive or damure. I would never be arogent ebough to believe i have the answer.  I believe a man is the leader. He should consult his wife. I will always vailure your insight and you.i meen my future wife whoever she may be. ” she said. “Oh ok”she said

“Do you want your husbend to be week and subservient?  ” i asked. “No i actualy dont. I figure he probably will be. I would not mind a strong male as my husband.  It would be difficult for both of us. I like leading,i wont say i dont. I would not mind being led. ” she told me.

“I see you as a strong leader. You seam to be a director an administrator but i dont find you intimidating.  “He said.

“I am glad to hear that. You seam like a leader but not a dictator. You seam very competent. ” she said “thank you. ” he said.

“I hope that my futute husbend will vaulue me. Be patient with me. I will try to honor him . i would not want to undermine him..” she said.”things take time.  There is always ajustment. ” he said.

“I gues there is. “He said. “We can learn in that adjustment.  We can come closer though it. Well between you and your future husbend i meen. ” she said.

“So do you have any pets?” she asked.”a dog. A beigle named molly.you?” i asked. “I have a cat. Teeny.  No jokes. ” she said. “Ok!” i said.

“So are you planing to be with this church for a while?” she asked. “I love it hear. This is my first church.i have been able to mold it and develop it. I would hate to leave. I would like to be for a while . even my whole pastoral life. I dont know if that is what the lord has in mind.i am open to either. If he moves me. I am perfectly fine with that. So in your church it is up to your superiors?” he asked. “Yes. I like this church.they seam to like me. ” she said.

” you could end up on the west coast?” he asked. “Possibly.  I think i will be hear for a while. Would you miss me if i was gone?” she asked.”without a doubt! ” i told her.

“We dont have to worry about that for a while. ” she said. “Good! I am glad to hear it. ” he said.

They played volly ball fot a while. She beet him in thr first game. He beeat her the next. Then she won. “So do you grab a bite to eat?” i asked. “Yes this one on me ok? “She asked. “I dont know!  ” he said. “We can both contribute to this relationship! I meen our friendship whatever this is. ” she said.  “I really dont mind. ” he said.

” if i had planed this better, i would have made something. I make a meen chicken salid sandwitch. Next time can we do a picnic?” she asked. “That would be great.  There will be a next time?” i asked. “Do you want there to be?” she asked.  “I do.”i answered.
At dinner i asked her if she wanted kids. “I do. Mayby three. You?”she asked. “Four mayby. I am not sure. I defiantly want kids. “He said. “I think you would be a good farther. “He said.”im picturing you and your daughter. A mini you. You will make a really look momy.” he said. “I hope so. “She said.

“I have no doubtS.” i said. I pictured her and me hanging out with two kids. A boy and a girl. I liked that image. I looked at her and thought thats my future wife. She caught me. “What?” she said .i smiled.”nothing.  I got lost in thought for a minute. “I said.she smiled and said ok.

I had steak and she had a vegiterian dish. We had desert.i paid and then we left the resturant. I then drove her to a spot outside of town where you can see most of hagervile. I parked. We got out.

“This is my favorate spot in town.i figured i would save it for the end of your tour” he said.he took her hand and helped her up. “It is a beautiful spot. I can see why itis your favorite.  ” she said.

She took it all in. She looked around the town. “I am realy glad you came today. Its funy i had no plans for the day.never expected my day to go like this. ” i said.

“I like to shake things up. I am very unpredictable.  Your life is never going to be the same now that you have met me. ” she told me.

“I can see that. I am ok with that. I will adjust. ” i said. She laughed. “I gues mt life will change as well. I like these changes. ” she said. “We are in for an adventure.  Up,down and everything in between.  “He said. “Sounds good! ” she said.

I felt like things had changed. Nothing was the same. I liked it.it was scary.  It was frightening.  It was promising as welll. I knew i had to deny my self.abandon my self intetest. That was hard. I could see things in me i did not like. I knew i would have to change. I knew i had to focus on changing myself.  I had to work on conforming myself to the image of christ. That woukd not be easy but necessary.

“Well i should probably head back home. “She said. “I figured. I am so glad you came today.  ” i told her. “I am glad i did too. I am going to miss you. ” she said. “I will miss you too. ” he said.

They drove back to the church. They got out. “Look will you call me when you get home. I will wory until i know your home.”i said.”i will!”she said. “Thanks.  Have a safe trip home. “I told her.

I went back to my house. I did worry about her. Then i got the call.”hi hunnie i made ot back! “She said.”awsome. I am really glad. “I told her. “Look i wanted you to know that i had a good day. I know that becuase of sin there is no such thing as a perfect day but today was close.”she said.

“I know what you meen. I agree entirety.  “I said. “I will talk to you soon. “She said.”you got it. Bye for now.”he said.

Unlikly of couples part two

While heading home 🏡 after a visit to the bible college i graduted, i had what would become a life changing experience.   I stoped 🔴 at what i thought was a conservative Methodist church.  As it turns out it was a more mainline Methodist church. There was a female pastor.

I did not beleve that women 👩 could be pastors. Nornaly i would have left right away.  I did not.  We ended up hanging out after wards.

Something was stired up in me. I thought about her on the rest of my drive 🚙 home 🏡.  Before i stoped at the church , my thoughts were on my college and the conference.  It had all changed.

A week had gone by. I got flooded with questions about the conference at church. It was understandible.  I wanted to see her.she lived a bit if a distance.  I came up with an excuse to see her.

On my day off i decided to go on a road. Trip. I usualy stayed in town. I almost never left what was nicknamed by locals the hill valley region.  I was mostly a home body. I did enjoy traval.

I saw on the website of her church that today was one of her office days.she would be there. I ordered two ice coffes. I remembered her cofee and her extra turbo schot. I hoped she would remember me. Perhaps all of this was in my head.

She spent most of the day at the church. She had met with several parishioner.  She had done office works. She made and received phone 📞 calls.

I parked my car 🚗  in the lot. I saw what i thought was her car 🚗.  It had a united Methodist bumper sticker. I opened the car door. I walked 🚶 to the front door 🚪.  I nervously went inside.

I thought to myself that i must be out of my mind. This was not like me. I had been focused on the ministry. I really did not have time for anything else.  I really did not want to be involved in anything else.was i lonely?  Why am i latching on to a female minister from a slightly less then conservitive denomination. I saw a sign that gave directions to the office. 🏢

I walked the coridor to the office 🏢.  I stood for a second near the door 🚪.  I tried to catch my breath.  I could not beleve i was really hear.  I could not beleve i was really doing this. Had i totaly gone nuts? Perhaps i had.

Becky had no idea i was hear. I caught my breath and then knocked on her door 🚪.  “Come in. ” she said.she had been lost in thought and buisy at work.

I nervously opened the door.  She had her head down but looked up. “Beware of fundamental Baptist baring gifts!  ” i said. I set her ice coffee down on the desk. ” its mocha ice cofee, two cream five sugars and a turbo schot of mocha.” i said.

She was shocked 😱 to see me to say the least. “Craig? What are you doing hear? “She asked. “Today was my day off and i was goinh stir crazy.  I decided to go on a road trip. “I said.

“You came all this way to see me?” she asked. “Yes i did. I probably did not think this though. I am ususly not this impulsive.  “I said.

“Thank you for the cofee. ” she said.”did i get it right?” i asked. “Its perfect!” she replied. “I am glad.😺 “i responded.

“Please sit down. ” she said. I sat down at a chair 💺 on the other side of the desk. “I am surprised to see you.  ” she said. “Is it a good surprise? 😲 ” i asked in a playfull tone. She smiled.😃 ” very good!” she responded.

“How have you been?” he aaked. “Good. Buisy but good.  I am a bit if a workaholic. ” she said. “I know how that is. One of my days off i was so bored but i built a utility building. ” i said. “No you did not!” she said. I took out my phone and showed you the pics. “Ok i no longer dont feel like a workaholic! ” she said.  They laughed.

“So have you been? ” she asked. “Good.  I went though car leg when i got home. I hung out in a field for a while.  Church is going good. ” he said. .”i am glad. ” she said.

A few came in. He steped out. He checked out the church library.  She came and got him. “You are really hear. I tgought you were a figment of my imagination.” she said.  “I stil could be. “I said.

“No if you were my figment of my imigination you would be taller. “She said. ” whats with my height?” i asked. “Nothing!” she said. “Are you saying im short? Im five 11. Thats not bad!” i said.  “No your fine. Want to grab lunch? Its on me. ” she said. “Sure i dont know about that seccond part? “He said.

“Dont tell me your a chauvinist? ” she remarked. “I perfer to call it chivalry reverend becky.” he said. “My car or yours?” she asked. ” myne i feel strange about riding in a car that has a united Methodist bumper sticker. Even though i am away from the hill valey i could still see someone from hagger ville.  ” i said.

They walked to the car 🚗.  He opened the door for her. He got in. He had a collection of old hyms on cd.he turned it down.  “You only listened to hyms right?” she asked. “I do. You listen to k love mostly but probably like jaz and u2. ” i said.”you would be correct.  ” she said.

At the restaurant we sat down to eat. ” are you a vegetarian?   I asked. “Yes i am. ” she asked. “Will you be moraly outraged if i order a steak?” he asked. She chuckled. ” no your fine.  I was prety sure that you were a carnivores.  ” she said. “Your not going to try to change me into a vegiterian?” i asked. “You figured out my diobolical scheme. I will have to engage in a mind wipe so you will forgot?” she said.”a what?” i asked. “Sory! If i came with a warning lable it would say”warning this person is known to make obscure. Science fiction references. ” she said.

” i thought star trek fans were 40 year old men who stil lived in there moms basement?” i remarked. “There are more of us then you know! Its from star trek five. Hey most men find female minister intimidating so it was either science fiction or becoming a cat lady. I do have a cat. His name is nelix!” she said. “Let me gues nelix is a charictor on star trek? ” i asked. “Yes that is correct. ” i said.

“So are you woried being seen with a preachete? ” she asked. “I wasn’t.  Now that i think about it. I am a little.  ” i said.  ” i am sure you will be fine. You could always say i kidnapped you and forced you at pepper spray to come with me to lunch. ” she said. We both laughed and laughed at that.

She was so much fun. She was so silly! She had two sides to her. She had a work persona and an off work. She had a personal side. I had so much fun with her. We retroactively referred to this as date number two.

She invited me to stay for there bible study. It was interesting. It was prety good.it was bible based. It was more earth based then i cared for. A bit sub surfaced. I stayed qiet. I decided to observe

After the study she walked me to my 🚗.  ” it was so good to see you.  I had a good day. “She told me. “I had. a good day too. Iam glad i came hear. ” i said. ” am i more relaxing then building a shack?” she asked. “Yes . much. “I said. “I am glad to hear that. If you perfeted contruction i might get a complex.  ” she said.they. laughed.

“Well have a safe trip back to hagervile!” she said. “Thanks  have a good night reverend beck. ” i said.”you realy need to stop calling me that pastor wallice. ” she said.  We laughed.

I got in the car and headed back.it had been a good day.  Certainly one i would never forgot. That day i thought i would never had a day like this again. This could never be topped but i would be wrong.

To be continued.

“Unlikely of couples”

I was on my home from a conference at ambassador baptist college.  When on the road, i try to stop at a church . i stoped at a church   i been to before. I parked my car 🚗 at the parking lot.

It had been a while sence i had been to the church. The church was free Methodist church. It had become part of the united methodist denomination. I did not know this.if i had i probably would not have come in to this church.

The church was far more liturgical then i was used to. There was a perade of shorts. The pastor wore a robe and sash. It was a lady. A young lady. I had come to a church with a female pastor.

I gues i could have walked out but i did not. I was not sure why i did not. I did not end up staying though thr whole service. I was not sure if i should have or not but i did.

The music was a combination of hyims with some ccm as well. The pastor was an avid listener of k love.she and her 🎵  music director introduced it alongside the old hymns.

Her surnon was prety good. It was short. It was based on a text from the gospel. It was on jesus reading from isaiah in the temple. It was a good mesege. She focused more on earthly practical intetpretation of the text.

I would have taken a different tract with it. I have as i have preached on this text. It was fairly good. After the service i planed on heading right out. I did not want to get back home.

I got up to leave. I was sitting towards the back of the sanctuary.  I. Moved towards the door. People started to talk to me. I had spoken to many.  Then i got to the exit.

She was young. She was in her twenties. “Hi welcome to christ united Methodist church. I am rebbcca Morrison but most people call me pastor becky.” she said.

I tried not to cringe. I am a strong belever that pastors and deacons should be male. I believe that the bible teaches male leadership. I tried not to be disrespectfull. I was in her turf. I tried to be respectfull.

“I am craig wallice. ” i said. “What brings you hear?”she asked. “I am heading back to hagervile.i was at a bible confrence . i wanted to attend church on my way home.” he said.

“Are you united Methodist? ” she asked.  “Ah no! I am baptist. ” i said. “Are you one of those? ” she asked. I acted coy. I knew what she ment but i devided to feign igborence. “One of them?” i asked in a slightly sarcastic tone.

She chuckled. “Your a fundy!” she said.  “I dont know if i would put it in that term but yea. I perfer independent fundamental baptist. “She said.

“I am suprised you came hear.” i remarked. ” i used to come hear quite often. It been a while. The last time 🕙 i was hear, it was stil free Methodist. Pastor ottis was stil hear.” i told her.

“Oh! Things have changed sense that.  Pastor ottis died a few years back. The church numbers dwindled.  The united Methodist took it over.  They united Methodist send pastors. In this case me!” she said.

“I see. ” he said “so you probably would not have come had you known that it was united Methodist or had a female pastor?” she commented.

I had to admit that was true. “No to be honest i probably would not have. ” he said. “Well do be offended but i am glad that you did not know. I am glad you came. ” he said. “It is good to meet you.” he said.

“Did you always want to be a pastor?” she asked. “As long as i can remember. I wanted to be a race car driver too but that did not endure it as long as my desire to be in the ministry.  What about you?” i asked.

“Not as long. I wanted to be some kind of professional.  I wanted to be a nurse or doctor. I went to school to be a social worker but decided to go into ministry. ” she said.

“I see. ” i said. “You dont approve of me being a pastor?” she asked.”i do disagree with women being pastors or deacons. I believe men should be in positions of authority in a local church. I believe the bible clearly teaches male leadership.” he said.

“Well! I do not share that view. While example in sctipture are for males, there is no command that pastor and deacons be male. “She said.

“A pastor should be the husband of one wife. First timouthy 3:2. That is prety clear. Paul made it clear that he beleved that women shod be silent in the church. ” he said.

“That is an example not a command.the women at the church in ephasis were uneducated for the most part. Many may have been new believers.  It became a free for all. Today women are educated.  Most people alow the pastor or teacher to teach. “She said.

“Jesus is the same yesterday today and foever. God is a God of order. The plan has always been male leadership. This goes all the way back to adam. I dont see any reason to alter it. ” i said.

“So do you see my pastorship as illegitimate? ” she asked.”i am not hear to judge you. ” he said. ” a little bit of diplomacy?”she asked. “I am a guest hear?”i remarked they laughed.

“We are a welcoming church. All are welcome even cantankerous baptist!” she said. “I sm not that cantankerous!  A little bit of a cammugin! “He said. They both laughed.

“You know we are the only ones hear?” she said. “We are. We probably shod not be alone together. ” i said. We both quickly left the church building.  She locked up.

” do you go out for cofee?” she asked.”ok! Do you usually ask out new visitors?” i asked. She chuckled.”no i dont. ” she said.

I followed her car.  My car did not have hardly any bumper sticker. I only had one. It was an i love 💘 my beigle. She had several including one for the united Methodist church.

We went in. I paid for both of ours.she had a mocha swirl ice cofee with a turbo schot of mocha. I just had mocha. “You did not have to pay for myine. I go a little nuts. Thank you i apreciate it.” she said.  “No problem. ” i said.

“So. Tell me about yourself pastor becky!”i said. “Well i grew up in Wisconsin.  I grew up independent fundimental baptist. I kinda rebelled and planed on becoming a social worker. I stil beleved. I decided on less rigid denomination.  The pastor encouraged me to become a minister. I transfered my credets. Hear i am.”she said.

“What do your parents think?” i asked.  “They are glad that i returned to the faith. We have become close despite our doctrinal differences. They stil hope i will get over this. Get it out of my system. ” she said.

“I see.is this a phase you will get out of?” he asked. “You never know !”she said. I laughed.

“So what about you? ” she asked. “I was born in south carolina. We moved to a church in indiana. Then he started a church in anderson. I went to ambasador and then worked at my dads church then started the one i am at now ” i told her.

“Is your church new blood or disafected people from orther churches?” she asked. “We have a lot of new converts. We have some who were disillusioned at other churches.  My passion is to reach the loss and to deciple new belevers who will go out and impact there community.  I am not trying to sheep steal but it does happen. ” i said.

I could not believe i was pouring my heart 💙 out to a complete stranger.this was not like me at all.i was pouring my heart 💙 out to a female united Methodist minister. What was going on? Was i totally out of my mind?

“I will have to visit your church some time!”she said.  “Definently. I would love 💘 that. ” i said. I had no idea if she ment it or not.

I felt like she was an old friend. I felt like i have known her for years. I lost all track of time.

“Wil you admit you know me?”she asked.  “I think i will. I am not totaly sure. ” i said. She chuckled.

“I realy should be heading back. ” he said. “Ok. You probably should.it was good to meet you. ” she said.”it was good to meet you pastor Becky! “I said.

“You really dont have to call me pastor becky. Becky fine.”she said “i like calling you pastor becky. ” i said. “I noticed. ” she said.

I walked her out to her car. “Have a safe trip home craig. ” she told him.”thanks. Have a great night. ” i told her.

We got in our car and went out seperate ways. It was funy i had a great time at the confrence. I ebjoyed being at my colege. What i remember the most from that trip was attending that church.

Becky and i later decided that was out first date. Really it was. We just did not know it.i think i lnow that Becky would one day become my wife.
