Arranged mariege part six

Jeny was excited about getting maried.all her life, she was told her mariege would be aranged by her family. The fact that she could not chose her future husband did not brother her. She kind of liked the mystery.

He was not what shr expected. She was skepitcal at first. She was not sure that this could work.

She decided to give it a chance.  She found that she did like him. Despite there differences, she suspected that they could make a go of this.

She fell alseep that night in his arms. She woke up the next moring. She layed in bed for a bit. It was clear that she was not going to fall back to sleep.

He was still asleep. She decided to get up. She tried to tip toe out of bed without being heard.  She wanted to let him wake up on his own.

She made it to the smal kitchen-living room. She made the watter for cofee. She then put the cofe in. Then she truned the cofee maker on.

She made sausage eag breakfast sadnwitches. She was not surety when he was waking up bit it was stil fearly early. She read over Romans one while she was cooking. She was good at multi tasking.

He came into the dining area looking like a zombie. “Your not awake are you love?”she asked. “Not really. ” he said. She laughed. “Cofee is ready. I got sausage mufins done.” she said. “Cool sounds good.” he said.

She laughed. “You can sleep in longer of you want to hunnie.”she told him. “Oh no! I’m fine. I am beyond the point of faling back asleep. ” he said.”i am not concinced of that but ok.”she said.

“So what are our plans for the day?” he asked. ” well i thought we would go in the canoe again. ” she said.” cool. Sounds good. ” he said. “Then play some basketball. Then there is a cofee house that has jazz night. ” she said.

“Ok. ” he said. “Not keen on the jazz thing ?”she asked.” its fine. ” he said.” your sure?” she asked. “Of course. ” he said. “Ok. Just making sure. ” she said.

He enjoyed the sausage sandwitch. After a few more cups of cofee, he was much more awake then he had been. He felt like he was able to function more then he had been.

“I am awake now!” he said.  “Thats good to hear. ” she said. “I did not hear you get up. ” he said. ” that was what i figured. I was trying not to wake you. ” she said. “You succeeded. ” he reaplied. “I am glad of that. ” she said.

“Breakfast was amazing.  Thank you.” he said. “No problem. It did come out good.” she acknowledged.  They put everything away and thew away the trash.

They got ready for there day.  They got dressed. They headed for the beach area. He paid for the rentle. He came out. They went to the canoe. He helped her in to the small craft. They got the life jackets on and took out the paddles. The craft lunched.

They went out a bit.”this is so calm.so peaceful.  I love it out hear!” she said.”i can tell. I do too. ” he said. “I have always liked the watter. “She said.

“I like being on the watter. Just not in the water.  ” he said. “You dont like to swim?” she asked. “No. swiming is not really not my thing. I like being in a boat. ” he said. “Ah. I love everything about water.  From being in a boat to swimming.  I love it. ” she said.

“I will watch you swim from the shore!” he told her. She chuckled. “Ok. ” she answered.

They stayed in the water for quite a while. Then they went back to shore. They returned the canoe. They walked hand in hand though the property.

They went to the basketball court.  They started playing basketball. They started to play. She loved sports. They got conpetitve but it was all in fun. They played a few games. She won some, he won some as well. There were a lot of laughs.

“You give me quite a work out. ” he said. “I realy get in to my game.  ” she declared. “I can tell. ” he said. She high fived him. “Still friends? ” she asked in a playful mannor.he chuckled. “Still friends! ” he said. He hugged her. Then he kissed her. She was not expecting that.

They did not kiss alot. He did not seam to be too keen on physical contact. They frequently held hands. She was surprised he kissed her in the open.  Perhaps he was easing in to all of this.

He was a mystery to her.  He was serious. He was stoic. He seem to vailue logic above emotion. Not quite vulcan but close. He seemed to be a student of plato.

At the same time, he was a very funny man. He had a dry sence of humor. He liked to laugh. He liked to joke around. She was not sure how to interpret him. She had not quite figured him out. That was ok.she liked a good mystery.  He was definently that.

They went back to the cabin. He grilled hot dogs and hambergers. The cabin had a small fire pit outside the cabin. She took off her shoes.

They eat outside in a picnic table . “these are really good. “She said. “I am so glad your not a vegiterian or vegan! ” he remarked. She laughed. “I like vegetables.  I am not a carnivore like some people i know. I eat meat. I would not like just fruits and vegetables.  I want a verity in my diet. ” she said.

“I dont know how i would handle it if you were vegetarian.  ” he admitted. “I dont think that that would go over well. ” she responded. “Probably not. ” he admitted.  They laughed.

“If you were, we would figure it out. ” he said. “I am sure we would.  The good thing is that that is not a concern. ” she said. “True. ” he said.

They hung out at the cabin for a while. Then they changed and got ready to go to the cofee house.

She hoped that she was not pushing him too far by draging him to this. Pethaps this was a bridge too far. He did put her in charge of there days activities. A mariege involves two people. She hoped that he would not be miserable at the. Event. She considered not going. She did want to. She decided to go along with it.  It could be interesting.

She had no idea what he was thinking. Some times she wished that she had telepathy.  Other times she did not . She wished she did right now. How far could she push him? What was his limit?

They got ready to go. They changed cloths. He wore a polo shirt and tan pants. She wore a pink blouse and green skirt and flip flops. They headed out.

They got into the car.  She drove this time. The cofee house was not that far away from the cabin. They parked at the parking lot. They got out of the car. They walked to the building. They went inside.

They paid the smal entry fee. He got a hazelnut cofee and she got french vanila. She suspected he might be nervous about all this. She hopped that this was not a huge mistake. She hoped that this would not produce a big fight or a small one for that matter.  She tried not to burrow trouble. She did not want to create a conflict that did not exist and might not. She calmed down.

The jazz band started.  She loved it. There were several grouos. They were all very good. She was realy enjoying herself. She got a bit caught up in her own happiness. .she wondered how he was doing. She hoped that he was ok.  She wondered what was going though his mind.

The show lasted a couple hours.  They left walking hand in hand. “I hope that you were not too bored?” she remarked. “No. It was not too bad. ” he said. “I had a lot of fun. ” she said.”i can tell. I am glad you had fun. ” she said.

“Was it really ok?” she asked. He squeezed her hand. “Of course. This is your honey moon. I want you to enjoy yourself. ” he told her. “Your going to have to do this again sometime and again.  ” she admonished him. “I know that jen. I am fine with that. ” he said.

“It was ok we did this?” she asked. “Of course.  ” he assured her. “Ok. Just making sure. ” she told him. They got into the car. The car headed back to the cabin.

They got ready for bed. She put tank top snd pj bottoms.  He wore shorts. She put on a star trek episodes on her lap top. They cuddled while watching.

“So are you sick of me yet?” she asked.  He smiled. “No. Not at all. Are you sick of me?” he asked. She kissed him . Then she smiled.

After a while they decided to go to bed. She was getting used to be maried to him. She was enjoying him. She felt that they would be a good couple. She was glad of that. After a while they both fell asleep.

End of part six.

Next up.

Aranged mariege part five

They fell asleep in each other’s arms.they woke up the next morning. “Hunnie, what do you want for breakfast?”she asked. “Um. Whatever. I usualy do a sinple breakfast. What ever you want to make hun.”he answered.

“Bacon and eags ok?”she asked.”yea! Sounds good! ” he said. “Ok cool. “She said. She wore a pink tank top and pazama botom. She went out to the smal kitchen area. By smal it was smaller then a cubicle but it worked.

She took out the eags and bacon .she put them on the frying pan. She put her hair up and put it in a scrunchy. He came out.

“You look like a zombie?”she said in a teasing tone.”i dont really function before my first cup of cofee. He took out the place for the filter. He took out a new filter. He put it inside then poored the cofee been in. He put the watter then turned in on.

“I love mornings.  Usualy i am ready and raring to go!”she said smiling. “Why am i not surprised? “He asked. He held her waist while she cooked. She once in a while gave her a kiss.

“You do i am trying to cook. Your distracting me. I am going to burn the eags!” she exclaimed. He laughed.

She kissed him a few times. ” its weird. My family was strict. I amNot use to being able to pratice physical contact. “He said.

“My family was not quite as strict. I have kissed before. I am sory. I did not realize at the time that i might regret it. I am sorry. ” she said.

“Hey no condemnaton ok.i am not meen! ” he said. “I know that. “She said. When the eags and backon were finished, she put them on a plate. She brought them to the table. He prayed and they eat.

” so what is on the agenda today?” she asked. ” i figured we could rent out a paddle boat. “He said. “Cool!” she said.” do you want to play pay ball? There is a place nearby!”he told her. “I can schoot you with paint ball?”she asked.”i dont know if i would put it quite like that but yes. “He said.

“Cool! This sounds like a lot of fun. “She answered. “It is a lot of fun. Have you ever played before? “He asked.  “No i have not. I have aways wanted to. I am looking froward to it.”she said. “Its fun. ” he said. “Im sure it is.” she said.

They finished eating. “So am i a good cook? “She asked. “You are. Thank you. ” he said. He hugged and kissed her. “I like to cook. ” she said. ” your good at it. ” he said.

They used the campgrounds shower facility. Then they returned to the cabin and got changed. He wore blue shirt shorts and sandles. He was not much for shorts or sandles. Sense he was goung on a boat, he decided to wear them.

She wore a pink shirt and tan shorts and flip flops. He was stil shocked that his parents set him with her. They had always been very strict. They were conservitive. Old fashioned.  Why did they bring them together?

He assumed that they would set him up with a fellow independent fundimental baptist. That was not what happened.  He was curius why.

Yet there was something about her. He did feel something for her. That he knew. It made no sense. Maybe it did not need to.

“Ready?” he asked.  “You bett. ” she said. She took his hand. They walked to the maine office. He paid for the rental. An attendent took off the chain from the boat. They got in and lunched.

“I love being on a boat.  ” jeny told him. “I do too. ” he said. “I love watter. I could spend a whole day on the watter and be fine with it. ” she told him.

“I dont get out hear mearly as much as i would like to. ” he told her. “I know what you meen. “She said.

“I find i am suprised that our parents paired us up. My parrents are so strict. It does not make sense that they would agree to this. ” he said.

“You could ask them?” she asked. ” i could but i am not sure that i want to.” he said. “Why would you not want to?” she asked. “It could take away from the mystique.  ” he said. She laughed. “Ok!  ” she said.

“Mayby i dont need to understand it. Some things mayby are not suposed to be understood mayby not now at least. I am probably not making any sense. ” he said.

“I think i understand.  Its like your favorate song. You have your idea what it meens. You might be curious what the real meening is. Your tempted to go check it out on song facts.  You dont want your views shatered. You just keep wondering.  ” she said.

“I had not thought of it that way but ok. Most of the songs i like are prety srlf explinitory like “holy holy holy” or “churches one foundation ” or “a mighty fortres is our God. “. With the exception of “i come to the garden alone ” i dont have a clue. ” he said.

“I am prety sure i know why my perents aranged for me to marry a Baptist pastor. My dad wanted to become more conservitive.  My dad is a committed. United Methodist but he is slightly to the right of most united Methodist.  He always has been. As to your perents Mayby they wanted you to not tone down your doctrine but mayby your approach. ” she said.  “Mayby i dont know.  Mayby i should not try to psychoanalyze it. ” he told her.

“Am i a disappointment? ” she asked. He touched her hair. His heart sank. “No sweetheart. Not at all. “He said.”i just wanted to make sure. “She said.  “No your great. “He said. “I was just checking. ” she said.

“Am i not quite what you expected? ” he asked.  “Your not quite what i expected.  It is a good thing. I like you. ” he said. “I am glad to hear that.  ” he answered.

They stayed out in the watter for a while. Then they camr back in. They reterned the boat. He hugged her. She held on to him. She never expected him to be so affectionate. He loved be affectionate with her. She would come to crave it from him.

They then drove to a paint ball place. They rented the equipment.  They decided to play a kind of hide and go seek.  They gave themselves plenty of leed time. They went after eachother.

He saw her coming. Botg perpared to get the first schot. Jeny got there first. She kept fireing. She gothis face shield. By the time he could see again he had been hit multiple times.

They both started laughing. They went again. He was able to snkeek up on her.she did not see that coming. .they lost tract of time. Some other people ask them to join a capture the flag type game. They worked together and got the enemy flag.

They decided to call that. A day afyer several hours.  He took her hand.”you are a mess!”she remarked.”your one to talk!” he responded. They both laughed.

They went back to the camp ground. They got cleaned off then changed. They had a late lunch. “I have never foubd it easy to express my feeling. I dont wear my heart on my sleve. ” he said.

“I suspected you might be a bit of a stoic.”she said. “So i have been told.”he said. “I will have to tickle you or something.  Get it out of you!”she said. “I dont think that is nessisary. ” he said.  She laughed.

“I like that you are so affectionate. ” she said. “It is the only way i know how to express my feelings.  “He said.”touch could be your love language.  I am not much for physical touch. I cringe when my sisters hug me. Its different with you.  I like hugging you. “She said. “I am glad to hear that.”he said. They laughed.

“Something is different with touching you i guess. “She said.”i know what you meen.”he said.

After dinner, they read the first 17 verses of romans together. He wondered how two ministers doing devotions in romans would go.

“I see verse 16 and 17 as the key verses of the whole book or at least the first 11 chapters. ” he said. She thought it over. ” i can see that. ” she said.

“I used to think that the first 14 verses were just introductory.  Hi how are you,  im good. In looking at it more in dept, i believe that they corispond with the thises satement found in 16 and 17.” he said. ” yes i  definitely see that. I never really thought of it that way but it makes sense. ” she said.

“I see key words ,not ashamed of gospel, power of God unto salvation.jew first, also to the greek, Righteousness of God. Just shall live by faith. I think that the first 11 chapters corispond to those. ” he said.  He felt very self conscious about all of this. He feard that she would view him as a hick with little education. He feard losing the spiritual leadership of the family. Worse then that he feard never having it.

She was interested in what he said. She wrote it down. She pondered it in her mind. She considered it a long time later.

After they prayed together.  They held hands while they prayed. While he did not think it went well. It had an impact on her he did not realize.

They played minopoly after. She ended up wining. They went outside and sat on the smal porch. “Beautiful night?” she remarked.  “It is. ” he said.

“Hey sense i planed today, you want to plan tomorrow? ” he asked. She smiled. “Cool! Yea i would.  Can i lead the bible study?” she asked. “You want to cover the topic of wrath of God?” he asked. “I know that God is a God of wrath as well as love. I am not afraid of it. ” she said. “Yea you can. ” he said. “Sounds good! ” she said.

She put her hands around his waist. She placed her head on his beck. ” why do you have a hard time expressing how you feel?”she asked.”i have no idea. I always have. It is a bit of a family joke. ” he said.

“You are very analytical.  That is fine.i can work with that. ” she said. She held on to him. He kissed her.

After a while,  they decided to go to bed. They talked a bit. They eventually fell asleep.

End of part five

Next up james and jeny have there third full day at marriage.  This day jeny plans the itinery. With some suprises.

Aranged mariege part four

James and jeny had just been maried. Unlike most wedings they had never met prior to the nuptials.they were part of a mariege aranged by both set of parents. What they did not know was that one was a independent fundamental Baptist minister, the other a united Methodist minister.

We pick up the story today on there first day as a maried couple. They have just woken up and are eating a light breakfast and cofee.

“Have you been to this church before?”she asked. “Many times. I went there as a kid on vacation. I usually go hear at least once a year. I realy like these cabins and camp sight. I like this area. ” he said.

“Is the church strict and seperated. Hymns, king james, dreses etc.” she remarked. “Yes.  All of that. ” he answered.

“Well at least i know what i am getting into. I know something to expect i guess. “She remarked.

“It is a good church. They are very friendly. It may be different then you are used to. ” he said. “I am sure i will be fine.  “She told him.

After eating mufins and drinking coFe,they decided to  get ready. They used the facility shower facilites. They then got dressed and got ready to leave.

She wore a purple shirt and black skirt. She braided her hair into a pony tail. She wore sandles. He had a dress shirt and black pants. He saw her and smilled.

“You look realy nice. ” he said. “Thank you. You look nice yourself.” she said. He hesitated at first to display physical contact. Then he realized that he is maried and he was free to show physical contact. He went over and hugged her. She hugged him back.

They got there bibles. He had a king james version.  She had an revised standered version. They held hands as they went to the car. The car started. The car drove off and. Headed to the church.

This was so sureel. She felt like she woke up in an alternate universe.  She woke up on her weading day beleving that she was marying a fellow Methodist minister.  The truth was she had maried an old fashioned independent fundamental Baptist pastor. She was shocked by that. She never expected him to be like that.  She had a major adjustment now. It was quite a shock to her syistom.she was trying to short all this out. She had no idea how to do this.

James had no idea what to do. He feared that she would never raly be his wife. Her heart would never fully be in this.  He feared that she would his wife in name only. He feared that she would be a potempkin wife in a potempkin marriage.

They were both qiet in the car. He became woried. His heart started to sink.he took out his hand and took hers. She gave to him. They smiled. The car arived.

The church was a fairly  smal building. The car parked in the parking lot. The two got out. They held hands and they walked towards the church.

They walked towards the door. They saw a door greater.  He recognized him. “Hi Arnold.  “James said.”james hi. Welcome back. It is good to see you. “Arnold said.

Arnold was a man in his fithties. He had attended this church sence he was in his teens. He was quite a ficture in the church. He was a grandfather and was a piller of the church.

“This is my wife jenny. ” he said . “your maried now. Congratulations. ” arnold said. He explaned that they had just got maried.  Arnold was very excited.

James did not know everyone but knew almost everyone. They engaged in convetsation with verious attenders in the church. They engaged in mingling and then sat down.

The pastor came over. “Pastor foster.  It is good to see you. “Pastor ted gail said. “You too pastor gail.”he said.he shock the hand of the older pastor. “This is my wife jenny. We just got maried yesterday. “He told him.

“It is good to meat you jeny. I hope you enjoy our church.”he said. The church was very old fashioned. The church had a piano and an organ.  The church only played the old fashion hymns.  Everyone dresed conservatively. Man wore suit and ties. The ladies wore dreses or skirt.

Jeny pastored a litugical church. The service was filled with rutuel. She wore a robe with a sash. She preached from a lexionary. The service folowed a format observed every week. There was a new and old testiment reading.the whole service was planed carefully. This servive had a format but it was different.

She felt a bit out of place. She tried to make the best of it. She was not sure what to make of all this. In a Methodist service, there was reading from the gospels then a message was given inspired by the text. Many i.f.b used topical format. Usualy there was a primary text. It would branch off to other paseges.

Of course the messeage was om abandoning the fundimentles of the faith. That included abandoning the king james bible, the hyims, key doctrines etc. She tried to be oppen minded. She tried to ababdon any biases she might have.

He wounded how she took all of this. Was she offended.  Would she mad at him for bringing her hear.would it create a gistalt where he had his world,  she had his and never shal the train meat. During the service he squuzed her hand. Sh squuzed it back.

After the service they went back to the cabin. Neither one said said much.  They were not sure what to say. “I had no idea that that was he would preach on. I did not pay him to preach that. “He said.”i know that. I was not offended. “She said. “Ok. I realy want to ease you into all this. I am sure that you will want to introduce me to united methodism. “He said.

“I know.  I am ok. “She said. “You sure? If you were offended. I would like to know. I want to understand you . “he said. “I appreciate that. I really am ok. ” she said. “Look. Your feelings are importent to me. I want you to feel free to tell me anything.  ” he said.  “Thank you i really do appreciate that. “She said.

They drove to the cabin. Each cabin had a gril area. He cooked burgers.  She liked watching him grill. He took off his suit coat and tie.they eat.

After diner they took a nap. He set the alarm. They both laid down.  He put his arm around her. She laid on his head. ” jeny ,the last thing i want is a loveless mariege. I am strict. I can be harsh. I want you and i to be partners.  I want us to work together.  I want to be kind. I want you to feel like you are free to be totaly oppen with me. I want to be your best friend. I want you to be my best friend.  ” he told her.

“I am afraid of you a bit!”she admitted. “Me? I am very easy going.  “He said. “You remind me of the acedrmic deen at seminary.  “She said.”please tell me he had a full head of hair. I have never been compared to a deen before. It is better then a dril sergent. I was not afraid of the deen of men at my college.  I am strict on holiness, conduct . i considered it liberal to listen to the gathers or to read the new king James.  In how i act i dont think i am strict. I am not grumpy or stern. ” he said.

“You see yourself as head of the house hold. Do you ser yourself as outranking me?”she asked. “I dont see myaelf as outranking you. I do have leadership.  I do believe in partshership. People at my church do not see me as authoritarian. I hope that the way i run the church is how i lead the family. I hope i can earn your trust. That is importent to me. I hope there will come a time where your ur not afraid of me or see me like the academic deen.”he said.

“Thats bug you a little? “She asked. “Only becuase i am known by my congregation as easy going. I would hate for my wife to feel that she has limited acess to me. My parents are a unit. They think differently but they are one flesh.  I want that for us. I really do.” he said. As he talked he played with her hair.

“So do you make all the decisons or do i get consulted?” she asked. “I believe the husband gets the final authority. He holds leadership of the family. Having said that i want you to feel you can talk to me about anything.  I want you to have acess to me. I want you to be part of the decison process.  I know we wont agree. I dont want a my way or the highway. My flesh wants that. I know its best. The last thing i want is for you to be misierible. I want you to be happy. ” he said.

“Well i like getting my own way. I like being in charge. I know that me getting my own way is not best. I just want to be involved in your deliberations.  I want to know your thought process.  I want to be in the loop. “She said.

“I can do that. I am not a dictator. I am forcefull. I am opinionated.  I know that i am not infalible. As a pastor i keep in mind that i am an under shepard. I answer to christ. I am a stuward. I am not the guy. I have to keep that in mind and i try to. ” he said.

She wanted to trust him. She wanted to embrace him. It was  hard for her to trust him. She wanted to but she was a sceptical person. She was sometimes cynical. She found it hard to trust. Could she lower her defences. Could she let her shields down and let him in. Was he realy the man he claimed to be.

They got up. They had a light snack before church. They went to the same church they had the night before. She was not used to the church but she liked it.

After church they went to the car. “Do you want to go out for ice cream?” he asked. ” yea. Sounds good. “She answered.  They went to the ice cream store. She got a chocolate sundae. She sat down.he brought the ice cream.

“What is that?” she asked. “It is my ice cream. ” he said. “It looks like it is multiple flavors with every toping that exist. Do they have any topings left?” he asked. ” yes they do. I dont do this very often . This is my honeymoon,  why not go big. “He said. She laughed.” your not going to be able to eat again for a mounth. ” she told him.

He chuckled. “Want to try a taste?” he asked. “I am almost afraid to” she said. She took her spoon and diped in. She tasted it.” its good but it is a bit of an overload. ” she told him. He laughed.

They held hands as they went to the car. He looked at her. She saw him looking at her. She saw the way he looked at him.

They went home and schot around a ball. Then they went inside. “You know i am a little afraid of you. ” he renarked. “Realy?” she asked. ” you are really smart. You graduated third in your class. You are way snarter then me. You are very accomplished.  You are a bit intimidating. You have a towerring presence. ” he remarked. She chuckled.

“I get that alot! ” she said. They both laughed. He hugged her. “This is when you say your not that scary. ” he said.  “I am prety imtimidating!” she said. He kissed her. “I gues i kinda like to be intimidating. I dont want you to be afraid of me. I dont want that at all. ” she told him. “Ok. “He said.

They watched star trek on her laptop.  They cudled as they watched.  She loved it. He did not quite get it. Then they fell asleep.  It was quite a first ful day of mariege.

End of part four.

Aranged mariege part three

Jenny and James arived at the cabin. They unpacked then sat down on the couch.neither one knew what to say. They tried but could not get the words out. They sat in silence for a little bit. ” This is awkward!”he said. “It really is. “She said.”think we will unable to talk to each other?”she asked. “I hope not. I guess we will have to work on it. It may take time. “He said. “It may.”she said.

“I guess I was not what you expected.”she remarked.”no your not.i suppose I am not what you exoected?”he asked.”not really? “She said.”did you expect me to be passive? “He asked.”no but Manny united Methodist pastors husband’s are. I don’t really know why?”she said in a tounge in cheek fasson.he laughed then she laughed. Neither one expected that. He began to suspect that she was very playful. He found even then his heart was slowly starting to melt.

“Yes I did expect that you would be a united Methodist or at least a Methodist. Did you expect me to be independent fundimental Baptist and not an ordained minister?”she asked. “I did expect you to be I.f.b and not a minister.”he said.”you wanted a demure women who would not think for herself?”she asked.”no I don’t want someone who is demure.i am open to different idea. I don’t expect you to agree with me all the time. I welcome alternative suggestions. I know I am not always right. I am a sinner saved by grace. I know I am not infallible. I believe I am called to be a leader. A servent leader. I take the servent part very seriously!”he told her.

“Are you commited to this?”she asked.he looked into her eyes. He took her hand and squzed it. “Yes I am commited to you. I made a promise to the Lord and to your Perents and to you. I take that serious. I know what to make rash vows. I believe that the Lord brought us together. I trust him. I believe that the Lord brought us together. I don’t understand it. I also believe that he wants me to live up to those vows.the Bible is clear not to make rash vows. I want to do this. Yes I am committed. Are you commited to this?”he asked.

She smilled. “Yes I am. I am nervous. This is now quite what I expected but yes I am commited to this and to you.”she said. “What are you nervous about?”he asked. ” Nervous that I will never meet your expectations. I guess I am nervous that you will ashamed of me. I fear you will never accept me. I fear that you will never respect me. I fear that we won’t ever really connect. “She said.

“There is no denying that we are both out of our comfort zone. This is not at all what either of us expected. ” He said. “That is very true . ” She said. “We will have to work at this. I expect it will take hard work. Perhaps harder then we ever expected. ” He said. “Yea I am beginning to see that. They say the best marieges are the ones that take work. The ones that both sides are committed to making it work no matter what. What destroy us instead make our relationship stronger. Perhaps that can happen with us. Perhaps it will. I definitely hope so. “She said.

He started to see that there were two  side of Jenny. Two complete wholes. One was the strong Jenny. The leader, the administrator. The alpha, the go getter. The anilitical stoic at times. Then there was the other Jenny. This was a softer more emotional person. A person who was very sensitive. Fragile perhaps. Both sides were all hear. She was both of these personalities.botg of these gestalts if you will.he saw her at first as only the minister Jenn not the personal Jenn. He started to see that side of her. She was starting to let him see that side of her. It was part intentional and part unintentional.

“I am out of my comfort zone. I did expect you to be I.f.b. I did not expect you to be demure but I expected we would have the same experiences. We will have the same base.th same starting point as far as core values. “He said.”I know exactly what you need.now we are not even sure where our starting point is.”she said”yes I can definitely see that. “He said. “The early days will be hard. They could also be the most important. It could be worse. I could be ucc or unitarian . ” She said. “Very true! ” He said. They both laughed.

“So  according to Wikipedia, united Methodist is both mainline and evengelical?” He asked. “Yes. I guess we are slightly towards the liberal end of evengelical. We are still evengelical I would say. So independent fundimental Baptist don’t consider themselves prostistent? “She asked.”there is differences of opinion of that. I personally believe in a principial view of Baptist history.i believe that a Baptist principle had excited back to the early church. I don’t believe in landmark view that is almost a Baptist succession form peater. I don’t believe that Baptist are prostistent. In fact Baptist were under instence persicution commonly over the baptism isue.”he said.

“You like church history? “She asked. “I do. Baptist history is an interest in particular.mostly because it is not that well known even by fellow Baptist. It plays into Baptist theology as well. Do you like church history?”he asked.”very much so. I like history overall. I was interested in church history before college but college grew that passion definitely.”she said.

“So, do you believe in diety of Christ?” He asked. “Yes I do.” She said. ” Salvation by faith alone?” He asked. “I do believe that salvation is by faith alone apart from works. ” She said. ” Is there salvific truth in other religions?”he asked. ,”You had to ask that one? No I do not believe that there is salvific truth in other religions. “She said. “Few! Is the Bible literal?”he asked. “Yes .I do believe that the Bible is literal. I believe that it is the word of God cover to cover!”she said. “Just not the part about pastors being males.!”he said! “I should have known that you would go there. First Timothy does mention male pastors or elders but there is no command that a pastor must be male. The husband of one wife is an example not a command.”she declared.”um I don’t know about that! I think it is clear form the text that leadership in the church is to be male. “He said “to answer your questions yes I do take the Bible literily.”she said. ” I take it you listen to contemporary Christian music.”he remarked. “I do! K love is my favorite radio station. I listen to secular music as well. I take it you are hyms only?”she asked. “I am.i don’t listen to ccm. “He said. “I assume you don’t watch TV?”she asked! “No I assume you do?”he asked.”I do . I love Star trek and crime dramas.”she said. Star trek? A nerd as well?”he asked.”I bit. I like sports as well. I was captian of the seminary volley ball team.i take it you were probably captian of the debate team?”she asked.”pretty much. I was on the Bible college soft ball game but it was intermural.i love sports but I should definitely not give up my day job.”he said. They both laughed.

They both made each other laugh. Even though they were taken a back by each other, they were very playful. They seam to enjoy being in each other’s company. Despite there differences, they were starting to become closer. That was becoming more and more clear .

“What do you want me to be like?”she asks.”well I don’t want to change you. I want to get to know you. I am not trying to transform you into a clone of me. I am not turn you into me .What is the phrase resistnce is futile?I am not like that. I really not that strict. I am but I am easy going as well. “He said. “OK you do upright but I think I can work with you?”she said in a joking Mannie.”you really think I’m upright?”he asked.”slightly but not too rigid. “She told him. They laughed.

He hugged her. She held on to him. He put his arm around her. They both knew it was not going to be easy. They were both wiling to give it a chance. After a while they decided to call it a night. It had been a long day. They were both exchausted. They both fell asleep.

The next morning he woke up. He was bright at first. After a few minutes if just sitting in bed,he got to the point that he was not going to fall back asleep. He started to get up.”what are you doing?”she askd. ” I was going to put the cofee on!” He said. ” What time is it? ” She asked. “A little after seven.” He said. ” Oh OK!  Please tell me your not like John Wesley?”she remarked. You need if I wake up at four am I feel like my faith is slipping? No I am not. “He said.”,glad to hear it.” She said. “You drink coffee ?”he askd. “I do.”she said.

He kissed her cheek. He went to the small kitchen area.he out wetter into the pot. He out in the cofee and turned it on. She came into the small kitchen.she was still a bit groggy. “Good morning hunnie! “He said. “Morning . Not sure if it is good.”she said. He hugged her.”not a morning person?”he askd.”not at all. “She said. “I suspected as much!”he said.  ” Your not a morning person are you?” She asked. ” I think I am not of a morning person then you are.i do enjoy sleeping in. “He Said. “That is good.”,she said.

“,So what is on the agenda today?”she asked. “I figured we would have a simple breakfast. Muffins. Church starts at ten. We are not going to do a lot of jumping and dicing but a little bit.tomrow will be a little more laid back.i know this is our hunnie moon.”he said.” I figure we are going to a Fundy church?”she askd. “Yes.”he said.”OK! I will give it a chance!,”she Said. They had a light breakfast then got ready to go.

End of part three

Aranged mariege part two.

Jennifer Marie Richmond who went mostly by Jenny or Jen has grown out in a small town. Her Perents went to a united Methodist Church. She had always been a good student. She loved history . She was an avid reader. She was politicaly involved as well.

She had been very involved in her local church from a young age.she became very interested in Methodist history and the theology of metgodist. She knew everything there to know about Methodist and John Wesley and everything associated with it.

At a young age she talked about being a ministet. That and being a starship captian. She was a Star trek fan as well. Her farther tried to discourege it at first. He was a bit of a traditionalist. He was not sure about a women pastoring a church. She stuck to this dream. When there local church welcomed a female pastor that kind of put the kibosh on slot of his objections. While jack Richmond as still not so sure about female pastors or his daughter becoming a pastor.

Jack and Jenny had always been close. They tended to agree mostly on the big theological questions. Even with some disagreements, they had been close. He was proud of the person his daughter has turned out to be. She was a strong person. She had good Character and intregrety. She was a hard worker. He held on to his more old feshoned views as well.

She has stuck with her dream of becoming a minister.she worked towards that goal. She was mentored by pastor Kathy. She went to a seminary that trained more mainline ministers Including united Methodist.

While Jenny was not guy crazy, she still want to be maried. She did not spend a lot of time thinking marrying. Her Perents believed in aranged mariege. From a long age it was ingrained in her that her spouse would be chosen. Y her Perents. She was fine with that. She had accepted it. She even anticipated it. She trusted her Perents. She knew that they had her best interest at heart.

They had not talked about it recently. She was pastoring a church so she was busy with her local church.she was heavily involved with the sate denomination and local civic engagement as well. She had not considered being married.

She always took Wednesday off. She was drinking coffee when her phone went off. “Hello this is Jenny!”she said. “Hi Jenny it’s your mom. Can you you drop by the house?” Her mom asked. “Yea sure.is everything OK?” Jenny asked.”yes of course your farther and I have something we want to discuss. ” She said. Jenny was a little confused.”OK . I will be right up. ” She said.

She was a bit confused. She was cruious as well. She headed to there home. She lived 20 minutes away form her Perents. She came in. They engaged in small talk. Then they got to the point. ” As you know , your mother and I decided that your marriage should be aranged.”jack said.”of course. ” She said.

She began to think that this was hardly an accedemic discussion. “You see we have been looking for a suitable candidate to be your husband.we have found someone.we believe that this is a good choice. ” Her farther said.” We are quite pleased with this man. ” Her mom said.

She had no idea how to take this. She had not considered that this could happen at any time. She figured it would. She was not obsessed with it. Now it was happening.

“I see.”she answered. She took a breath . She could not believe this. When she went back to his home, she tried to adjust to all this. She came to accept it. She did look forward to it.it was a new adventure . She did liked adventures.

She woke up the day of he weeding.she had no idea what to expect.her Perents had been a bit cryptic about him. She knew his name but that was about it.james foster. She had no idea what he would be like. Would they get along. Would they mesh? There would so many questions. So many veribles. She hoped that it would all work out. She was confident that it would. She was not so sure how.

When she saw him for the first time she thought he was attractive. He was clean shaven.he had short hair. He seemed friendly. Time appeared to have stopped when he took her hand. She forgot that there were other people in the audience . It felt like there was just her ,him and the minister. Then she began to come back to reality when he declared them to be husband and wife.

She was eiger to talk to him.she wanted to get to know him. She hardly knew what his voice sounded like. She understood that weadings were for the first as well as the bride and groom but she wanted to get to know this man. He was a complete enigma to her. She had felt  neutral about the whole process. As the day got closer she was not exactly excited about the upcoming nuptials but did look forward to it.

Now that she met him ,it was totally real to her now. She still knew almost nothing about him.finsly they headed to the car.things started off well. The conversation was small talk but was pleasant. Then she found out that he was an independent fundimental Baptist. Form the little they talked,it appeared that they could not be any more different.

They said little on the drive to the cabin.neither one knew what to say. Both went inward. Both tried  to make sense of it in there own mind.  They had trouble doing that.

James was not sure what to do. He wanted to marry someone like him. He wanted to marry a fellow independent fundimental Baptist.he wanted a cone of himself. While they did not have to agree on everything but as far as theology he wnted his wife to be exactly like him. On favorite color s or style of car was fine to be be different but not on doctrine or practice. How his wife was totally different . He was prety sure she was good on basic doctirne not on other things. Definitely not on his view of ecclesiology.

Jenny was equally divided. She was not quite as a doctrinal purest as he was. She believed that the Bible is the word of God. She believed in salvation by grace though faith. She believed in social gospel as well. She was much more community minded. She did not have quite the same expectations then he had.she believed he would probably be an eventual or conservative mane line. She did not want to Mary someone in the united Church of Christ lane of the congregational church. She was sossily conserve but fiscally moderate to liberal.

She did not have a problem with him being a Fundy.she had a problem with the fact that he had a problem with him having a problem with it.she was not sure she could live in the scrict seperitist world of the I.f.b. she feared he could not live in the world of the mainline denomination. Were they headed to a impass?

They talked a little in the car after the revilation.it was not even smaller talk. “We are almost there !”James said.”excellent!” She said. They arived at the cabin complex. He parked the car at the main office. “I will be right back!”he told her. He kissed her on the forehead. He went inside.

She did not understand this man. He was a mystery to her. She wondered if she ever was. It took a few seconds for him to check in and get the key. He came right back in.”hey hunie.we are in cabin four c. “He told her. The car headed to the cabin. The car parked right outside the cabin. They got out of the car.

Even though he was not sure about all this but he was big into tradition.he picked her up and did carry her over the threshold.she was not old fashioned but felt like it was OK. She figured he would be all about tradition and as it turns out he was.

The cabin was small but beautiful as was the campus. He made a good choice. Maybe he had good taste at least in this. They started to bring things inside.he seamed to pack light. She packed a great deal more. That was to be expected. They brought stuff in. They did a little bjt of unpacking. Then they just sat for a minute.

Neither one knew what to say. They just sat in silence. Both sides tried to sort this out.neither one had a solution. They said nothing. They just sat.

End of part two

Arranged marriage

Aranged mariege was once a common thing. It was accepted and practiced without much scrutiny. It has fallen into disfavor. It is not commonly practiced.

Greg and Gloria foster were a bit old fashioned. They home schooled there kids. They had a fairly large family. They decided to arrange the mariege of there children. This was understood and accepted. To them it seemed normal. There two oldest son had been married in this fashion. They were successfully marieges.

Now it was time for there third son James to be maried. James had gone to Bible school and now was pastoring a small church. He was showing signs of sprituel growth and maturity.

Given that his marriage would be handled by his parents ,he focused his time at Bible college on preparing for ministry not trying to pair off. He was fine with that. He trusted his parents. They decided that now that he was established in ministry it was time to have him get maried.

James had no role in this process. He did not even know that they were trying to find a wife for him. They spoke to  various friends of there’s. They were carefully trying to vett the potential wife and her family. They left no stone unturned. They looked and after prayer, they believed that they had found someone. They were very pleased with the choice.

One day his Perents asked him to drop by there house. He had no idea why. That was not that out of the ordinary. He had lunch with them.”son we have something to tell you.” His mom said. “OK! “He Said. “We have been looking for a wife for you. “She said.”I was not aware of that.” He said.,”yes . We wanted to surprise you and we wanted to be able to make a decision without interference”his dad said. “Of course I understand. ” He said. ” Good. We have found someone. ” She told him.

He was really surprised By this. He had no idea that they were looking. He was also surprised that they found someone.  ” Her name is Jenny . She is quite lovely. I think you will  really like her. ” his mom said.  “She comes from a good family. I think she will be a really good match for you. ” His dad said.

He was totally Schocked. He believed that he would be maried. He had not given it a lot of thought. He focused on other things like his ministry. Now that his parents had chosen someone for him to Mary he was curious. What was she like? Would they be compatible? Would he like her? Would she like him. He could not get her out of his mind. He was excited. No one would he be going though life alone. He would have a partner a company ion a helper. Who was she.

The way the arrangement was ,he would not meet her until the weeding day.all he knew was her name. Other then that,he really did not know much about her. Really he knew almost nothing about her. His Perents liked her. He trusted there judgement.

He tried to get his house ready for her. The church did not have a paersnege. He owned a house. It had some land. He hoped she would like it. He had no idea what she was like. He knew nothing about her personality. Nothing about her interest.

The time of the weeding had arrived. He was not allowed to see her until the weeding. He was usually calm and collected . He was 23 years old but acted like he was 53 years old. His usual calmness was replaced. He had a  thousand different emotions all at once.he did know that by the end of the day he would be maried. He would meet his wife.

He had heard that she was in the building. He was kept in another part of the church. “Are you ready?” His best man asked. “I am not sure. I think so!” He said. The two went to the main part of the sanctuary. He knew those airing on the groom side. He did not know hardly know anyone on the bride side. He was not expecting to.

The music began to play. Various members of the party arrived. Then the wedding march went up tempo. There she was. She had brownish hair. She was five six. He imagined that she was probably In her early twenties. She seamed younger then him. At five nine he was taller then him. He did not care if he was taller but did take that into account.when the farther of the bride gave her to him.he took her hand. There eyes met for the first time. His heart raced. He wondered what she was thinking. He wished he knew. They went though the vows.the pastor declared them husband and wife.

She ones over. He nervously kissed her. The two kissed.  The ceremony was concluded. ” Hi there! I’m your husband!” He said. She chuckled. “I guess so! Hello my husband!”she said. She took his hand. They walked out to the reception area. The reception went well. He still felt that he knew next to nothing about her. He had not gotten to say much to her.

After quite a while, the two prepaired to leave. They went to her car. Her sister was put in charge of making sure that her stuff made to his to there house. They went to the car. “So where are we going?” She asked. “I got a cabin in Vermont. Is that OK?”he asked. “Yea sounds good.”he said. He opened the door to the car for her. Then he got in. He had a CD of hyms playing.  They were instrumental. She was not much for hyms or instrumental music.

“So what do you do? “She asked. ” They did not tell you. I am a pastor. I pastor a small church. “He said. “I am a pastor too!”she said. “You are?”he asked. “I thought you knew. I pastor Trinity united Methodist Church. ” She said. “Oh I figured you were independent fundimental Baptist. ” He said. “I assumed you were united Methodist.”she said.

“Let me guess you voted for Hilary?”he said.”I did. Did you vote for Trump?”she asked. ” Yes I did. Reluctantly but yes. I really wanted Ted Cruz but it did not happen.”he said. ” Your King James only right?” She remarked. “I am.”he said. ” You only sing hymns. ” She asked.”true. You observe lent?”he asked. “I do. “She said. They had trouble carying on a conversation.

The drive took a few houses. ” Look can I change the music?” She asked. ” OK!” He said. She put on k-love. It was a CCM station. He was not really happy with it but decided to let it go.he supposed it would take ajustment for the both of them.they did not say much to each other for a while. He was starting to wonder what he had gotten himself into.

Why would his Perents pair him off with a Methodist minister. It made no sense. Yet hear he was. He was not sure how this going to go.

End of part one.
