This is now part four

Becca was sad to leave jim the night they got rengaged. She wished she could stay in this moment. she knew that was not possible.  Soon she would live hear.

He walked her to her car. They hugged. She got in.he watched her go. He already missed her. He let his feelings return to him. He decided not to repress his feelings any more.  He did care about her. He was glad that they were back together.

She was so happy as she headed back.she kept staring at her engagement ring. She was very happy.

She made it back to her town.  She headed to her place. She parked then went inside. She called jim.

“Hey hunnie. I made it home. ” she told him. “Awsome! I am so glad.  I was woried. Not real woried.  I always get concerned.  ” jim said. “I know.  ” she said.

“I am glad you made it back.” he told her. “I am so excited. You have no idea. “She said. “I think i have a little idea. ” he said. She chucked.  “Well i wil talk to you later. I love you.” she said .”i love you” he reaplied.

The next month was extremely buisy for becca lynn. One of her brothers planned on taking over for her. All of the accounting and records had been designed by her. She had to give greg a crash course.  She had a lot to tell greg.

She would remain on her dads bookstore bored of directors.  The bored was her family. She assured her dad she would stay active in the bookstore behind the scenes.

She tried to let greg get a feel for runing the store. She basicaly looked over his shoulder. He was in charge. He was doung good.  She felt encouraged by how he was doing. Despite her reluctance to leave the store, she felt that it was realy in good days.

She was working at her dad’s store, she also worked on getting ready to assume day to day operations of bill’s store.

She also worked with jim to find an apartment near his church. She emailed him several that were in accordence with her budget and needs. She had a cat so she wanted a cat friendly apartment. he included contact information.

She made arangements to see the se tal apartments.  She had one in mind. She called jim. “I am coming down to check out apartments. Want to hang out after im done?” she asked.  “Yea sounds fun. ” he said. “Great. I am looking forward to it. ” she said.

“It will ne great to see you. I have missed you.” he said. “I have missed you. The two stores have kept me buisy. Soon we will be closer together.” she assured him. “I know. I cant wait. ” he said.”see you then!”she told him. “I love you.” he told her.”i love you.”she said. She hoped he could sense her smiling over the phone.

On Saturday got up fairly early. She made cofee and woke up for a little bit. She liked adventure. She looked froward to this adventure. She had a light breakfast. She put the rest of the cofee in a traval mug. She then headed out.

She started the car. She headed out. She was excited to find an apartment.she was ready to begin this phase of her life. Things were starting to fall into place. She was glad of that.

She had hyim music playing on her car cd player. She was excited to get to her destination. She really hoped she woukd find a place today. One less thing to fall into place. She needed this to fall into place. She hoped that it would.

She made it before she was suposed to view the first apartment. Within a few minutes, the lady arived. “Hello im doris. Are you becca?”she asked.

“I am. It is good to meet you.”she said. “It is a one bed room apartment as i said on the phone.  It is a prety qiet building. ” she said.

They walked up the stairs. She took out her keys and opened the door. The apartment was small but it was well maintained.  She did not need anything extravagant.  She just really wanted a roof over her head. She would not spend a  lot of time hear. This looked perfect for her needs. This was only her first apartment  checked out.

She did like this one. “So your moving to thr area?” doris asked. “Yes. I want to be closer to my fiancée.  I have a job lined up. Now just need a place to live. ” she told her.

“Who is your fiancé.  I tend to know prety much everyone in town.”dorris said. ” jim ball.” she said. “Pastor jim. I go to faith church. I did not realize he was engaged. ” she said. “We are keeping it qiet for now. “She said.

“I promise i wont tell anyone.  I promise. I know he was engaged before he started pastoring hear.  It did not work out i gues. ” dorris remarked. “That was me! We were engaged. We have reconnected.  ” she said. “That s great. ” she said.

After the tour they went back outside. ” i have a few more places i am scheduled to look at but i like this one. ” becca said. ” i am suposed to show it to a few people on monday but if your going to be buying into bill brakets bookstore and your engaged to pastor jim, i would love to have you hear. If you want it its yours. If you decide you want to go with it,call me by tonight.  If i dont hear from you, i will assume you found a different one. ” doris said. “Ok. That sounds like a plan. ” she told her.

She toured the other apartments.  She liked them but found that she liked the first one. She decided to go with the first one. She called doris. She went to see her and gave her the deposit. She was excited. It was finaly feeling real. This was really happening.  She could not be hapier.

Jim spent the day working on his sermon.  He did some visitation in the early afternoon.  Then he went home. Then she pulled in.

He went out to meet her. They hugged. “I got an apartment!  Doris bracey says hi. ” becca said. “Ypur renting from dorris. She is a nice lady. ” he said.

“I am so pysched. It is a great apartment.  Small but perfect for me.  “She said. ” it will be temporary.  ” he said. “Thats how i see it. It will be good. ” becca said.

They went by the apartment on there way to the park. They had lunch in the park. They chatted for quite a bit.

The time got closer for her big move. She would start to pack. The next Saturday he drove up to her old apartment and helped her loud her car and his. They moved some stuff there.

He felt weird being back in hagervile. He considered stoping by to see his parents. He decided not to on this trip. She did not move everything but move a lot of stuff.

The time got closer. They decided to anounce it to the church after she moved. Doris did keep the news qiet.

Her parents were on bored, not everyone in her church was. As news of the re-engagement reached the church, there was mixxed reaction.  To some jim was a periah. His parrents were not sure how to react when they learned about it. They wanted them to get back together but not like this. They wanted him to return to the i.f.b then get engaged again.  That was not how it happened.

To be continued.

Next up

Becca gets ready to make the big move. Her church reaches out to jim asking him not to go though with this. His dad makes a suprise visit to his office.

Unlikly couples part seven

Previusly on unlikly couple.

Craig wallice,a young pastor on a fluke visited a Methodist church. He met a young pastor. They seemed to hit it off.

They had a series of up and down. She wanted a break for a while. She ended up visiting him at his parent’s church.

Craig was tired but he had a good weekend. He thought that the weekend had gone really well. He wanted his parents and his church to have a good weekend.  It seemed that that happened.

He went to bed that night. He had slept in his old bed room. It did not look like it did when he lived there. He was exhausted.  He fell asleep verry easily. He was out till morning.

The next day he had coffe. He had breakfast with his family. “We posted a bunch of pictures on the church’s face book page. ” his mom said. She showed him a few.  He saw a group picture of church members. There was one of one of the extended wallice family.  There was a picture of the family with becky in the picture. There was a picture of craig and Becky.

“Sadie! Are you in rush to get home? I was wondering if we could stop and see bec. ” he sugested. “No i am not in a rush to get home. ” she said.  “I would like to take you and her out for dinner. ” he said. “Yea. Thats fine. ” she said.

After breakfast, Craig got ready to leave his childhood home. Sadie packed up as well. They packed up the car then visited a bit.

“It was good to have the whole family under one ruff again. ” his dad said.”it was good to be back. ” craig said. “Good things are happening at your church as well. I praise the lord for that. ” his dad said.  “Thanks dad. That meens a lot. ” craig told him. He hugged his dad.

He hugged his mom. “I realy missed you. ” his mom said. “I missed you mom. ” he said .he said goodby to his brothers and sisters as well. Then they headed out.  They got in the car and drove off.

They arived at Becky’s home. The car drove in. She watched them drive in. She came out of the house.

“Hi there!” becky said. He hugged her.  “I was hoping i could take you and sadie out for lunch. ” he suggested.  “Yes. That would be great. ” she said. “Awsome.” he responded.

She got ready to leave. They got into the car. “I thought the church celebration went really well.” becky said.  “It really did. My parents realy seemed to enjoy it. ” he said. “It seems like a good church. ” becky said. “It is. It has grown from what it was when it first started. At first it was our family and one other family and a couple kids. ” sadie said. “So did you model your church after your dads?” becky asked.

“In many ways yes. I used the church as a guide. I tried to put my own touches on the church i started.  I did modify a few things. ” he said.

“The church i pastor has been around for a long time. My predecessor was kind of old fashioned.  I had to slowly change things. I have kept it mostly the same as it was under pastor frank.” she said

They parked and went inside.  They sat down. “So are you the seccond oldest?” becky asked sadie. “Yes. They waited a while before having a seccond kid. ” sadie said.

“I kinda wore my parents out. ” craig said.” i was a much calmer babby. “Sadie said. “She was a prety easy baby.  Baby three merissa. She was very colicky. ” he said. “Do you have siblings?” sadie asked.

“Yes i have one older brother and three sisters. “She answered. “Do you get to see them much?”sadie asked. “Not too much.  We are not too close. “She said. “Im sory to hear that. “He said.”i was a bit of a problem child i gues. ” she said. “It seams like you have moved pass that. “Sadie said. “I have definently tried to. Old wounds take a long time to heel.”she said.

“So are you two close?”she asked. “I think i am his favorate!”sadie said. “We are very close. I dont have a favorate sibling. Mayby gracie. “He said. “Gracie is a year old. She does not count. ” sadie said. They laughed. Aftter a time they headed back to the car. They drove back to her house.

They got out for a minute. “It was so good to meet you sadie.”becky said. “Same hear. I am glad we got to talk. ” sadie said. “We have to doa girls day out some time. I would love to talk to you one on one. “Becky suggested. “You dont want me around? “He asked. “It would be fun to get to get know eachother without you. Lord wiling you will be my sister in law some day. ” becky said.  “I will give you my number. Thats sounds like fun. I look froward to getting to know you. ” sadie said.

Sadie said her goodbyes to becky. She got in the car. She figured that they wanted a few minutes to themselves.  “I am so glad you came yesterday. That was a great surprise! ” he told her.”i wanted to see you. I love being with you..i was afraid once we started talking. About what we are, that we would stop enjoying eachother.  So far so good. “She said.

“I love you. Iove your silyness. Your bubbly personality. Everything.  Your amazing reverend becky. ” he said. He hugged her. She held on to him. “I love you. Your qirks and all. Pastor Wallace ” she said. He laughed.

He headed to the drivers seat. He waved as he pulled out of her driveway. He headed out.

“So what do you think of her?”he asked.”i like her. She seems nice”sadie said. ” some times i think i am out of my mind to even think about such a relationship.  We are so different. Yet we mesh together so well.”he said.

“You do mesh together well. Your similar in manny ways. It is easier to spot your diffetences. Your more simar then you think.  “Sadie said. “I could see that. ” he said

“So do we think we can work out our differences.  Do you think we can make this work?” he asked. “To be honest i think you two will chose to. I think you will find a way.  I dont think either of you could really live with the alternative. “She said.

“I am trying to be carefull. I know that i can’t trust my heart. I know. The fact that she is a minister is problematic.  I know we have a lot to work out. A lot of it seems insurmountable.  “He said.

“You have grown up fast. You saw the things in your life that you need to improve on and you have made those changes with the lords help. Mayby this is not a time to run away. You two can work on this.  With every relationship the thought is to wall away at the first sign of trouble. Mayby this is not the time for that.  You may have to down the road. I realy beleve that as i said you will do whatever it takes to make it work. “She said.

“This is so unlike me. ” he said. “Mayby. Your ready for a relationship.  You were doing the work of the lord.you were not looking.  She showed up well you showed up. You two are cute together. ” she told her.

“You realy think so?” he asked. “I do. You two have something . thats clear. You two mesh.you conpliment each other. You have that thing. That spark. “She said.

“Its weird i did not feel lonley. I waa fulfilled.  I did not feel a void. I felr fine. I was content. Now that i have met her i can’t go back. I do feel that void. ” he said.

She smirked.  “You were doing what you were suposed to be doing. You were abounding in the work of the lord. Remember dad always says wait on the lord. His timing is always best. Mayby this is that time. ” she said.

“Perhaps it is. I had not thought of it that way. ” he told her. “I know you would find someone eventually. “She said.

He dropped her up.they said there goodbyes. Then he headed home. When he got home he called becky. “Hi hunnie! I made it back.” he said. That was the first time he ever called her hunnie. “Good. How was the trip back?” she asked. “It went good. No incidence. No wild life. ” he said.

“I had a realy good weekend with you. I love spending time with you. “She told him. “I love spending time with you bec. I was so glad that you came. I am so glad your in my life. “He said.

“No one has ever said that to me before.  I burn a bot of bridges. I am not that lovable. “She said.  “I meen it bec. Your very important to me. ” he said “your important to me too. ” she told him.

He took a nap for a while. He got up. He did some church work.  He called the chairman of deacon bored. He worked on his surmon. He checked his facebook. He saw a relationship request from becky. He confirmed. A notification came up. Craig wallice and rebecca granger are in a relationship.

His mom and sisters had tagged them in several pics. He saw a pic of him and her at thr church. There were several of them at the felowship hall. There were some of him with his family.  Sadie took some of them at bec’s place.

He saw that becky had become face book friends with sadie, his mom and his sisters merissa and alesha. She was becoming more a part of his world.  He stared at the pics. They looked like a husband and wife. They had not realy talked about mariege. It had come up but not a firm plan.

How would it work? Could it. Would they both continue pastoring. Where would they live. If one had to give up pastoring.  Who would it be? Could she pastor a church near him. What would his church feel about his wife being a pastor of a mainline denomination church? So manny questions.  So few answers.

There was time to figure all that out. He was surprised that he was thinking about it. That was interesting to him. She thought about it as well.

End of part seven.

Next up becky and craig ponder there futute together.  They learn more about each other.

Unlikly couples part four

The next day, pastor Becky arived at the church. She went to her office. She saw a series of flowers on her desk.  “Whats this?”she asked. “Oh. It is for you.”her asistent jill said. She looked at the card. “To pastor becky. Hope this britghens your day. You have brightened myine. ” it was singed pastor craig. She chuckled.

“Something you want to tell me becky?”Jill asked. ” he is a freiend?”she said.  “So is he the reason you went to hagervile?”she asked.  “Yea. He was the one that came to our church a few weeks ago.”Lilly said.

“Are things serious between you two?”jill asked.”i dont know. We did just meet. He is a fundy. I meen hatd core. “Lilly said. “Oh! He has not run for the hills?”jill asked. “Quite the opposite.  “Lilly said.  “You have not run for the hills?”jill asked. “No i have not. Should i?”lilly asked.

“I have never seen you like this. ” remarked.  “I have not felt like this i. Some time. ” lilly said. “Your bot afraid it cant work?  You two are destened for dissaster?”jill asked. “No i am woried about that. ” lilly asked.

“Why are you not runing for the hills?”jill asked. “Becuase i dont want you.” lilly said.  “I figured. Well i hope it works out. I really do. “Jill said. Lilly did not say abything but she hoped that too.

Later on in the day. Craig called her. “Hi craig!”she said. “Did you get the flowers?”he asked. “I did. Thank you so much. They were beautiful.  It was very thoughtfull. “Lilly answered. “I hoped it was not too soon. ” he said.”no! Your timing was perfect.  “She said.

She wondered what he ment by two soon. Was he thinking that they were a couple or would be someday. What was he thinking? Did he think that they had a future together. Did he want them to?

“I’m glad. Your not alurgic. I almost asked you but. I did not want to give away the secret. ” he said. “I am definently not alergic to flowers.  ” she said. “I am glad you like them. ” he said.

She found that he had a way of calming her. She liked that about him.he knew how to sooth her. The more she got to know him the more she came to love him. She admired him. She found him to be kind and gentle.

Though she was known as a strong leader at her church.  She was confident and competent.  She coukd be forcefull. She has wisdom and was good at stratigy. He had goals and had a plan to bring them to fruition. To outsiders she seemed to be all bussiness all the time. She was a workahilic.

She seemed to be all work. She had no real social life. When not involved in church activities she was involved in comunity and civic events. That was not the real her. Craig started to see a different side of her.

They rearanged there shudule so they could get tohether on saterday. Saterday morning they got ready for sunday. Saterday afternoon they would spend the afternoon together.  It was his turn to come see her.

She made chicken salid sandwitch. She made a chese cake for desert.  She brought chips. She liked to bake . she did not do it much. She was constently on the go.

He met up her at a park. They usualy did not engage in hardly any public display of affection but she hugged him. “How is the surmon coming?”she asked. “Really good. I am preaching on finding peace with God. My primary text is Romans. 3:24 but i am going to go though several ddifferent. verses.  You have it easy.  All you do is follow the lectionary. ” he said.

“Yes the topic is assigned.  I can have the fredom to take it where i will. I put my iwn personal touch. It is usualy a bit vaugue. ” she said. “If the topic or passege of scrupture is assigned mounths in advance by some luturgical body somewhere, where does work of the holy sprit come in? I dont know how many times my entire surmon has changed sometimes minutes before the surmon begins.” he said.

“God is a God of order. Lectionary is a tool that can keep a preacher from avoiding rabit trails. By designating the pasege it reduces the risk of preaching a pet peve. ” she said.

“I am careful not to go on a rabit trail. I dont know if i could never get use to having my surmon topics assigned every week. At bible colege i waa asishned to preach from seccond chronicles 7:14. I believe that was for the original readers not directly given to twenty first century america. The professor felt differently. I avoided the promise and dealt with it in the context of israel. I delt with getting right with God and his restoration while avoiding the promise aspect. I got good comments from the proof. He felt i should have tied it to america. Oh well!” he said.

“I take it you are big on independence of the local church?” she asked. “Yes. I believe that local churches shoyld be self governed.  I dont believe that churches should be islands.  I meet up with area fundamental pastors. My dad is a pastor and i stay in touch with him. I keeo acontible with an area pastor i should consider a sprituel farther.i do believe in acontibility. ” he said.

The picnic was a huge success.  He loved the chicken salid sandwitch.  She did not realize he could eat. He was thin . Almost too thin. He did eat. She wore a gray shirt and green skirt.she had removed her flip flops. The day was going great. Then he had to say it.

“What are we? Are we dating?” he asked. “No! Lets not go there!”she said. She seemed nervous, agitated. “I dont understand “he said. “I dont want to go there yet. We realy enjoy eachothers compony. I know i love being with you. I think you enjoy spending time with me. ” she told her.”i do. Very much so. “He answered.

“Once we try to figure this all out then its gets complicated. We have to deal with the eliphent im the room neither one of us knows how to. I know we are going to have to deal with all of this but i dont want to yet.i dont know if we can sort all of  this. “She said.

“Im sory. I did not meen to upset you. Your right.  I probably should have waited to ask. I got curios. “He said. “Its ok. This is a fantasy isn’t it. Your a separatist Baptist,i am a welcoming united Methodist.  We are entranced in our denominational ideologies. It is crazy to think we can make this work.  One of us would have to leave there world and embrace the other. I dont think it could work long term without it. ” she said.

“You believe for our relationship to work long term, one of us has to give up our dream?” he asked.  “Dont you?” she asked. “I gues your right. “He said. “You would want me to be the one to resign? You dont see female ministers as legitimate.  Of course i should be the one to quit. ” she said.

“I dont believe bibilicaly women should be pastors.  God is creator and redemer, he gets to decide how his church is governed. God designed men to be in leadership even before the fall. “He said.

“I disagree.  Yes it does say the bishop is to husband of one wife. That is an example.  There is no explicit command that a pastor must be male.”she said. “That is a bit of linguistic gymnastics. “He said. “I dont think so.  How do we make this work? Can we realistically? “She asked.

“I dont know!”he asked. “I figured. “She said. “I am sory i brought it up. I did not meen to upset you.”he said “its ok. I know that. Why did you show up a week later? You could have gone back to hagervile and we could have never seen eachother again. Why risk it all?” she asked.

“I dont believe my stoping at your church was an acident.   I was not lonly or inconplete or any of that before i met you. At least i did not think so. I did not perposly remain single during the last few years.  I believe i needed to focus on the ninistry. Focus on establishing the church and establishing myself. I believe God work on the best timing, his timing not ours.  Meeting you was the highlight of that whole trip. I could not stop thinking about you. I dismissed it at first but i knew there was more going on. ” he said.

“I will never be your dream wife. I am not exactly independent fundimental Baptist.  I could not get out of that world. You can take me out of the pastorate but i wont be your kind of wife. Thats just not who i am.  You would not be happy as a united Methodist pastor’s husbend?” she said.

“Is that you want? Me to resign from gospel Baptist  and be a pastor’s husband? ” he asked. “I could not ask that of you.you believe that this is God’s caling in your life.  I would not want to undermine that. So where does that leave us? A masive stand still. ” she said.

“Would you rather have had me not come back a week later?” he asked. “It might have made life easier. It would have been simpler.  No i wouldn’t. That would have made me sad not to see you again.  ” she answered.

They tabled the conversation for a while.  There was a voly ball net set up. They played for a bit. They each won three games.  He decided he should head back. She made him promise he would call when he got home. She worried until he called.

“Hi bec. Im home!”he said. “Good im glad. I did have a good day with you. I love spending time with you.” she said. “I had a good time with you.  I love hanging out with you. ” he said.

Things were complicated between them. They both knew it. Neither one knew how to solve it.  Perhaps there was for another time.

To be continued.

This is now part two

“So are you dating anyone?”jim asked.  “No . i am not. ” she said. “You should.  Your an amazing godly women. You will make a great wife. You should be open to finding someone. “He told her.

She had no idea how to respond to all of this.  Why did he say that? Did he have no interest in her? Why was he pushing her to move on? Why did he want her to mary someone else.  She found this disconcerting and frustrating.  She tried to remain calm but she found it dificult to do so.

“I am at peace.  I trust that the lord will provide a husband at the proper time. I am content. I seeno need to get nervous about it. “She said.

“You will be a great wife!” he said. Why did he keep saying that? She thought to herself. It irked her. She wanted to be his wife. Why was he pushing this?

“Your not seing anyone?” she asked. “I am too buisy. I believe i can date a sister in the church.  It is problematic.” he said.
“You dont regret not marying me? “She asked. “We were heading into different directions.  Two canot walk unless they be agreed.  You would not be happy in this world. I would not be happy in yours. It was not ment to be. “He said.

“I dont agree. I dont think i ever will. You should have trusted me. You should have given me a chance. ” she said.

She did not want there reunion to be like this.  She did not want them to fight. She just wanted to be happy with him. Despite her hurt she stik had strong feelings towards him.she still loved him.

He had no idea how to respond to what she said. “You have to admit that we were heading in different directions.  Your patents were have never suported it. It would have been a mess. I did not want to make you chose between your family and me. I still believe in parental oversight of marriage.  I did not want to put you though that.  ” he said.

“When you perposed i said yes. I pledged myself to you. I knew you were unhappy with fundamental bsptist policies and procedures. I knew you might distence yourself from the movement and gospel baptiat church.i committed to go whever you went. You just left. You did not give me a chance.  I did not have a choice. “She said.

“If i had, would you have gone with me? Would you havel left fundamental baptist and gone to an evengelical church? Would you disappointed everyone at church and at the college?  I was not sure who i was. I had to figure that out. “He said.

“I would have gone with you. I was prepared to fo just that.  I knew it would have been hard. If my parents had withdrawn there suport i would have tried to sit down and talk to them. I still wanted to Mary you. I knew you were not leaving the faith. Im sorry. Im sory i did not want our reunion to be like this. I am so glad to see you. “She said.

He smiled. “I am so glad to see you.  I missed you. ” he admitted. “I am so glad your pastoring a church. I liked seing you playing a guter. Never thought i would see that.  “She said.

She did not want to leave but it was getting late.  She had a ways to go. She came to see the reunuon not as a accidental occurence but a devine appointment.  “I should be heading back. ” she said.  “It was good to see you bec. Look call me as soon as you get home. I want to know home safely.  “He told her. “I will i promise!”she said.

She could tell that he did still care.  It warmed her heart. He walked her to her car. “Dont be a stranger. Feel free to come back to the church any time. “He told her. “Thanks i think i will. “She said.he hugged her. He planed for it to be a quick hug but becca was not quite ready to let him go. The embrace continued before they let each other ago.

“I will see you around. “She said. “Im glad. I want that.” he said. “I do too. “She said. They started to disperse. They went there seperate ways.  That would not be foever.

On her ride home, she kept thinking about jim. Something was stired in her.  Her family and church had encouraged her to date again. They even tried to set her up with someone else.  She recoiled at every turn. As she drove home ,she began to realize why. She still wanted to marry him. She was just not sure how to convince him of that.  Would he want her back?

When she got home, she called home. “Hi. I made It home. ” she told him. “Hey bec. Im so glad. I was woried.i figured that you would be fine but i was still concern. “He told her. “You do still care about me?”she asked. “Always!” he said.

“Im so glad to hear that. ” she replied. “Seing you today was the hilight of my day. Some things don’t change do they?” he asked.  “No they dont.” she told him. ” it was really good to see you. I missed you.  ” he said. “I am so happy i got to see you. ” she said.

Becca had a warm feeling about seing him. Something was stired in her. She would not let him go this time. Her feelings for him had not change. Mayby back then was not the right time. She was begining to think now might be.

Did he feel the same way about her that she did about him? He was a different person. Could it work? She felt an urgency about this. She realy wanted to get back together with him. She knew it involved change and sacrifice. What relationship did not.

During mid week bible sunday pastor jim as he was called, was flooded with questions.  He expected as much. “So who is becca? “Ben asked. “She is an old friend from my fundy days. “He said. “You are just friends?” another asked.  “Well! …”he said.

He was suprised by his church’s interest in her. He kept to business iness. He poored himself in the church. He did not make time for much else. Seing him with her peeked there intetest.

They saw a different jim. He was task orientated.  He was qiet. Around her he was different.  He was relaxed.  The church loved there pastor and he them. They wanted to see him happy.

When becca got home, she was not at peace.  She had no idea Why this meeting had such an impact. One day she read devotional about how isack found his wife.  She felt stirred. She felt luke God was about timing. He did things in the right time. She felt this was the right time.

To be continued.

Next up becca decided to move to the same town as jim.

Unlikely couple part three

I went back to hagerville. It had been a good day. I was not sure what would happen next. Both of us were prety much winging it. It was quute a day. Quite a day indeed!

Another week went by. I was busy with church activities. I was enjoying my work. I was enjoying doing the work of the lord.

I was in my office. It was my day off but i was catching up with some paper work. I wanted to do a couple of things and then i will take the rest of my day off.

I heard the door open. I was not sure who it was. I left my office. It was becky. “Hi there reverend becky. Your still hear! You did not melt!” i remarked. “Funny! Hey pastor wallice! ” she said. He laughed.

“I got you an ice cofee. Its mocha three creams two sugars! ” she saidni smiled. “Thank you. I appreciate that! ” i told her. “No problem!  ” she said.

“What are you doing hear?” i asked. Using air qoates she said that she was in the neighborhood on bussiness.

“The truth is i wanted to see you.i thought this was your day off?” she commented. “It is. I Am a bit of a workaholic i guess. Are you in a rush to get back or can you hang out for a bit. I would love to give you a tour of the area. There is a park we can hang out in. ” he said.

“Sounds great! I would love it. ” she replied. “Awsome!” he said. The two left the church building.  “My car or yours?” i asked. “I will ride in yours. You probably dont want to ride in a car with a united Methodist bumper sticker. ” she said. “Oh ok,we will go in myine then. ” i said. She smiled and said an exited ok.

They headed to the car. I got in the drivers seat and she got in the passengers side of the car. I started the car. The car headed out.

“So originaly we met in my house. Then in the town hall. Then we brought this building. It was an ice cream store and a dance studio.” he said. “That is quite a change!” he said. “Yes it is. ” he said

We came to my street.  “This is my street. This is my house. I got some mony from my grand parents esate.i decided to buy land and the house. Its smal but nice. There is some land. We actualy had some services outside in the early days. There is room for a garden and kids could play in it. ” i said.

What was i doing.was i really hinting at domastic life? Aperently i was. “So. Did you buy the land with thoughts of being maried with kids?”she asked. “I considered it. “He said.

“Then you do want to married?” she asked. “I do. I am prety buisy . i have not had time to date. I dont feel comfortable dating someone at the church. I dont want to date a non christian. I would like a partner in the ministry.  My house coud use a women touch. “He said

They went to a bridge. He showed her various sites. Then they went to the park. They sat at a table. “So do you want to be maried?” i asked her.  “I do. I worry that i am just too dominering. I am woried most men would be intimidated by me. ” she said.

“I dont know, there are plenty of demure men in the united Methodist churches. I am sure you can find someone. ” he said. “Funy. You think anyone can put up with me?  ” she said.  “Your not so bad! “He said.

“You think i will find someone?  ” she asked. “Yes i defiantly do. You will be a great wife and mom. ” i told her. “How can you  be so sure?” she asked. “I just know. ” he said.

“I would like to find someone who is not afraid of me. Someone who can tame me perhaps. I dont know if he exist.  Do you want a quiet damure wonen?” she asked.

“No not necessarily.  I believe in male leaderahip but that does not meen my wife needs to be pasive or damure. I would never be arogent ebough to believe i have the answer.  I believe a man is the leader. He should consult his wife. I will always vailure your insight and you.i meen my future wife whoever she may be. ” she said. “Oh ok”she said

“Do you want your husbend to be week and subservient?  ” i asked. “No i actualy dont. I figure he probably will be. I would not mind a strong male as my husband.  It would be difficult for both of us. I like leading,i wont say i dont. I would not mind being led. ” she told me.

“I see you as a strong leader. You seam to be a director an administrator but i dont find you intimidating.  “He said.

“I am glad to hear that. You seam like a leader but not a dictator. You seam very competent. ” she said “thank you. ” he said.

“I hope that my futute husbend will vaulue me. Be patient with me. I will try to honor him . i would not want to undermine him..” she said.”things take time.  There is always ajustment. ” he said.

“I gues there is. “He said. “We can learn in that adjustment.  We can come closer though it. Well between you and your future husbend i meen. ” she said.

“So do you have any pets?” she asked.”a dog. A beigle named molly.you?” i asked. “I have a cat. Teeny.  No jokes. ” she said. “Ok!” i said.

“So are you planing to be with this church for a while?” she asked. “I love it hear. This is my first church.i have been able to mold it and develop it. I would hate to leave. I would like to be for a while . even my whole pastoral life. I dont know if that is what the lord has in mind.i am open to either. If he moves me. I am perfectly fine with that. So in your church it is up to your superiors?” he asked. “Yes. I like this church.they seam to like me. ” she said.

” you could end up on the west coast?” he asked. “Possibly.  I think i will be hear for a while. Would you miss me if i was gone?” she asked.”without a doubt! ” i told her.

“We dont have to worry about that for a while. ” she said. “Good! I am glad to hear it. ” he said.

They played volly ball fot a while. She beet him in thr first game. He beeat her the next. Then she won. “So do you grab a bite to eat?” i asked. “Yes this one on me ok? “She asked. “I dont know!  ” he said. “We can both contribute to this relationship! I meen our friendship whatever this is. ” she said.  “I really dont mind. ” he said.

” if i had planed this better, i would have made something. I make a meen chicken salid sandwitch. Next time can we do a picnic?” she asked. “That would be great.  There will be a next time?” i asked. “Do you want there to be?” she asked.  “I do.”i answered.
At dinner i asked her if she wanted kids. “I do. Mayby three. You?”she asked. “Four mayby. I am not sure. I defiantly want kids. “He said. “I think you would be a good farther. “He said.”im picturing you and your daughter. A mini you. You will make a really look momy.” he said. “I hope so. “She said.

“I have no doubtS.” i said. I pictured her and me hanging out with two kids. A boy and a girl. I liked that image. I looked at her and thought thats my future wife. She caught me. “What?” she said .i smiled.”nothing.  I got lost in thought for a minute. “I said.she smiled and said ok.

I had steak and she had a vegiterian dish. We had desert.i paid and then we left the resturant. I then drove her to a spot outside of town where you can see most of hagervile. I parked. We got out.

“This is my favorate spot in town.i figured i would save it for the end of your tour” he said.he took her hand and helped her up. “It is a beautiful spot. I can see why itis your favorite.  ” she said.

She took it all in. She looked around the town. “I am realy glad you came today. Its funy i had no plans for the day.never expected my day to go like this. ” i said.

“I like to shake things up. I am very unpredictable.  Your life is never going to be the same now that you have met me. ” she told me.

“I can see that. I am ok with that. I will adjust. ” i said. She laughed. “I gues mt life will change as well. I like these changes. ” she said. “We are in for an adventure.  Up,down and everything in between.  “He said. “Sounds good! ” she said.

I felt like things had changed. Nothing was the same. I liked it.it was scary.  It was frightening.  It was promising as welll. I knew i had to deny my self.abandon my self intetest. That was hard. I could see things in me i did not like. I knew i would have to change. I knew i had to focus on changing myself.  I had to work on conforming myself to the image of christ. That woukd not be easy but necessary.

“Well i should probably head back home. “She said. “I figured. I am so glad you came today.  ” i told her. “I am glad i did too. I am going to miss you. ” she said. “I will miss you too. ” he said.

They drove back to the church. They got out. “Look will you call me when you get home. I will wory until i know your home.”i said.”i will!”she said. “Thanks.  Have a safe trip home. “I told her.

I went back to my house. I did worry about her. Then i got the call.”hi hunnie i made ot back! “She said.”awsome. I am really glad. “I told her. “Look i wanted you to know that i had a good day. I know that becuase of sin there is no such thing as a perfect day but today was close.”she said.

“I know what you meen. I agree entirety.  “I said. “I will talk to you soon. “She said.”you got it. Bye for now.”he said.

To be continued.

“Unlikely of couples”

I was on my home from a conference at ambassador baptist college.  When on the road, i try to stop at a church . i stoped at a church   i been to before. I parked my car 🚗 at the parking lot.

It had been a while sence i had been to the church. The church was free Methodist church. It had become part of the united methodist denomination. I did not know this.if i had i probably would not have come in to this church.

The church was far more liturgical then i was used to. There was a perade of shorts. The pastor wore a robe and sash. It was a lady. A young lady. I had come to a church with a female pastor.

I gues i could have walked out but i did not. I was not sure why i did not. I did not end up staying though thr whole service. I was not sure if i should have or not but i did.

The music was a combination of hyims with some ccm as well. The pastor was an avid listener of k love.she and her 🎵  music director introduced it alongside the old hymns.

Her surnon was prety good. It was short. It was based on a text from the gospel. It was on jesus reading from isaiah in the temple. It was a good mesege. She focused more on earthly practical intetpretation of the text.

I would have taken a different tract with it. I have as i have preached on this text. It was fairly good. After the service i planed on heading right out. I did not want to get back home.

I got up to leave. I was sitting towards the back of the sanctuary.  I. Moved towards the door. People started to talk to me. I had spoken to many.  Then i got to the exit.

She was young. She was in her twenties. “Hi welcome to christ united Methodist church. I am rebbcca Morrison but most people call me pastor becky.” she said.

I tried not to cringe. I am a strong belever that pastors and deacons should be male. I believe that the bible teaches male leadership. I tried not to be disrespectfull. I was in her turf. I tried to be respectfull.

“I am craig wallice. ” i said. “What brings you hear?”she asked. “I am heading back to hagervile.i was at a bible confrence . i wanted to attend church on my way home.” he said.

“Are you united Methodist? ” she asked.  “Ah no! I am baptist. ” i said. “Are you one of those? ” she asked. I acted coy. I knew what she ment but i devided to feign igborence. “One of them?” i asked in a slightly sarcastic tone.

She chuckled. “Your a fundy!” she said.  “I dont know if i would put it in that term but yea. I perfer independent fundamental baptist. “She said.

“I am suprised you came hear.” i remarked. ” i used to come hear quite often. It been a while. The last time 🕙 i was hear, it was stil free Methodist. Pastor ottis was stil hear.” i told her.

“Oh! Things have changed sense that.  Pastor ottis died a few years back. The church numbers dwindled.  The united Methodist took it over.  They united Methodist send pastors. In this case me!” she said.

“I see. ” he said “so you probably would not have come had you known that it was united Methodist or had a female pastor?” she commented.

I had to admit that was true. “No to be honest i probably would not have. ” he said. “Well do be offended but i am glad that you did not know. I am glad you came. ” he said. “It is good to meet you.” he said.

“Did you always want to be a pastor?” she asked. “As long as i can remember. I wanted to be a race car driver too but that did not endure it as long as my desire to be in the ministry.  What about you?” i asked.

“Not as long. I wanted to be some kind of professional.  I wanted to be a nurse or doctor. I went to school to be a social worker but decided to go into ministry. ” she said.

“I see. ” i said. “You dont approve of me being a pastor?” she asked.”i do disagree with women being pastors or deacons. I believe men should be in positions of authority in a local church. I believe the bible clearly teaches male leadership.” he said.

“Well! I do not share that view. While example in sctipture are for males, there is no command that pastor and deacons be male. “She said.

“A pastor should be the husband of one wife. First timouthy 3:2. That is prety clear. Paul made it clear that he beleved that women shod be silent in the church. ” he said.

“That is an example not a command.the women at the church in ephasis were uneducated for the most part. Many may have been new believers.  It became a free for all. Today women are educated.  Most people alow the pastor or teacher to teach. “She said.

“Jesus is the same yesterday today and foever. God is a God of order. The plan has always been male leadership. This goes all the way back to adam. I dont see any reason to alter it. ” i said.

“So do you see my pastorship as illegitimate? ” she asked.”i am not hear to judge you. ” he said. ” a little bit of diplomacy?”she asked. “I am a guest hear?”i remarked they laughed.

“We are a welcoming church. All are welcome even cantankerous baptist!” she said. “I sm not that cantankerous!  A little bit of a cammugin! “He said. They both laughed.

“You know we are the only ones hear?” she said. “We are. We probably shod not be alone together. ” i said. We both quickly left the church building.  She locked up.

” do you go out for cofee?” she asked.”ok! Do you usually ask out new visitors?” i asked. She chuckled.”no i dont. ” she said.

I followed her car.  My car did not have hardly any bumper sticker. I only had one. It was an i love 💘 my beigle. She had several including one for the united Methodist church.

We went in. I paid for both of ours.she had a mocha swirl ice cofee with a turbo schot of mocha. I just had mocha. “You did not have to pay for myine. I go a little nuts. Thank you i apreciate it.” she said.  “No problem. ” i said.

“So. Tell me about yourself pastor becky!”i said. “Well i grew up in Wisconsin.  I grew up independent fundimental baptist. I kinda rebelled and planed on becoming a social worker. I stil beleved. I decided on less rigid denomination.  The pastor encouraged me to become a minister. I transfered my credets. Hear i am.”she said.

“What do your parents think?” i asked.  “They are glad that i returned to the faith. We have become close despite our doctrinal differences. They stil hope i will get over this. Get it out of my system. ” she said.

“I see.is this a phase you will get out of?” he asked. “You never know !”she said. I laughed.

“So what about you? ” she asked. “I was born in south carolina. We moved to a church in indiana. Then he started a church in anderson. I went to ambasador and then worked at my dads church then started the one i am at now ” i told her.

“Is your church new blood or disafected people from orther churches?” she asked. “We have a lot of new converts. We have some who were disillusioned at other churches.  My passion is to reach the loss and to deciple new belevers who will go out and impact there community.  I am not trying to sheep steal but it does happen. ” i said.

I could not believe i was pouring my heart 💙 out to a complete stranger.this was not like me at all.i was pouring my heart 💙 out to a female united Methodist minister. What was going on? Was i totally out of my mind?

“I will have to visit your church some time!”she said.  “Definently. I would love 💘 that. ” i said. I had no idea if she ment it or not.

I felt like she was an old friend. I felt like i have known her for years. I lost all track of time.

“Wil you admit you know me?”she asked.  “I think i will. I am not totaly sure. ” i said. She chuckled.

“I realy should be heading back. ” he said. “Ok. You probably should.it was good to meet you. ” she said.”it was good to meet you pastor Becky! “I said.

“You really dont have to call me pastor becky. Becky fine.”she said “i like calling you pastor becky. ” i said. “I noticed. ” she said.

I walked her out to her car. “Have a safe trip home craig. ” she told him.”thanks. Have a great night. ” i told her.

We got in our car and went out seperate ways. It was funy i had a great time at the confrence. I ebjoyed being at my colege. What i remember the most from that trip was attending that church.

Becky and i later decided that was out first date. Really it was. We just did not know it.i think i lnow that Becky would one day become my wife.

End of part one.

Aranged mariege part four

James and jeny had just been maried. Unlike most wedings they had never met prior to the nuptials.they were part of a mariege aranged by both set of parents. What they did not know was that one was a independent fundamental Baptist minister, the other a united Methodist minister.

We pick up the story today on there first day as a maried couple. They have just woken up and are eating a light breakfast and cofee.

“Have you been to this church before?”she asked. “Many times. I went there as a kid on vacation. I usually go hear at least once a year. I realy like these cabins and camp sight. I like this area. ” he said.

“Is the church strict and seperated. Hymns, king james, dreses etc.” she remarked. “Yes.  All of that. ” he answered.

“Well at least i know what i am getting into. I know something to expect i guess. “She remarked.

“It is a good church. They are very friendly. It may be different then you are used to. ” he said. “I am sure i will be fine.  “She told him.

After eating mufins and drinking coFe,they decided to  get ready. They used the facility shower facilites. They then got dressed and got ready to leave.

She wore a purple shirt and black skirt. She braided her hair into a pony tail. She wore sandles. He had a dress shirt and black pants. He saw her and smilled.

“You look realy nice. ” he said. “Thank you. You look nice yourself.” she said. He hesitated at first to display physical contact. Then he realized that he is maried and he was free to show physical contact. He went over and hugged her. She hugged him back.

They got there bibles. He had a king james version.  She had an revised standered version. They held hands as they went to the car. The car started. The car drove off and. Headed to the church.

This was so sureel. She felt like she woke up in an alternate universe.  She woke up on her weading day beleving that she was marying a fellow Methodist minister.  The truth was she had maried an old fashioned independent fundamental Baptist pastor. She was shocked by that. She never expected him to be like that.  She had a major adjustment now. It was quite a shock to her syistom.she was trying to short all this out. She had no idea how to do this.

James had no idea what to do. He feared that she would never raly be his wife. Her heart would never fully be in this.  He feared that she would his wife in name only. He feared that she would be a potempkin wife in a potempkin marriage.

They were both qiet in the car. He became woried. His heart started to sink.he took out his hand and took hers. She gave to him. They smiled. The car arived.

The church was a fairly  smal building. The car parked in the parking lot. The two got out. They held hands and they walked towards the church.

They walked towards the door. They saw a door greater.  He recognized him. “Hi Arnold.  “James said.”james hi. Welcome back. It is good to see you. “Arnold said.

Arnold was a man in his fithties. He had attended this church sence he was in his teens. He was quite a ficture in the church. He was a grandfather and was a piller of the church.

“This is my wife jenny. ” he said . “your maried now. Congratulations. ” arnold said. He explaned that they had just got maried.  Arnold was very excited.

James did not know everyone but knew almost everyone. They engaged in convetsation with verious attenders in the church. They engaged in mingling and then sat down.

The pastor came over. “Pastor foster.  It is good to see you. “Pastor ted gail said. “You too pastor gail.”he said.he shock the hand of the older pastor. “This is my wife jenny. We just got maried yesterday. “He told him.

“It is good to meat you jeny. I hope you enjoy our church.”he said. The church was very old fashioned. The church had a piano and an organ.  The church only played the old fashion hymns.  Everyone dresed conservatively. Man wore suit and ties. The ladies wore dreses or skirt.

Jeny pastored a litugical church. The service was filled with rutuel. She wore a robe with a sash. She preached from a lexionary. The service folowed a format observed every week. There was a new and old testiment reading.the whole service was planed carefully. This servive had a format but it was different.

She felt a bit out of place. She tried to make the best of it. She was not sure what to make of all this. In a Methodist service, there was reading from the gospels then a message was given inspired by the text. Many i.f.b used topical format. Usualy there was a primary text. It would branch off to other paseges.

Of course the messeage was om abandoning the fundimentles of the faith. That included abandoning the king james bible, the hyims, key doctrines etc. She tried to be oppen minded. She tried to ababdon any biases she might have.

He wounded how she took all of this. Was she offended.  Would she mad at him for bringing her hear.would it create a gistalt where he had his world,  she had his and never shal the train meat. During the service he squuzed her hand. Sh squuzed it back.

After the service they went back to the cabin. Neither one said said much.  They were not sure what to say. “I had no idea that that was he would preach on. I did not pay him to preach that. “He said.”i know that. I was not offended. “She said. “Ok. I realy want to ease you into all this. I am sure that you will want to introduce me to united methodism. “He said.

“I know.  I am ok. “She said. “You sure? If you were offended. I would like to know. I want to understand you . “he said. “I appreciate that. I really am ok. ” she said. “Look. Your feelings are importent to me. I want you to feel free to tell me anything.  ” he said.  “Thank you i really do appreciate that. “She said.

They drove to the cabin. Each cabin had a gril area. He cooked burgers.  She liked watching him grill. He took off his suit coat and tie.they eat.

After diner they took a nap. He set the alarm. They both laid down.  He put his arm around her. She laid on his head. ” jeny ,the last thing i want is a loveless mariege. I am strict. I can be harsh. I want you and i to be partners.  I want us to work together.  I want to be kind. I want you to feel like you are free to be totaly oppen with me. I want to be your best friend. I want you to be my best friend.  ” he told her.

“I am afraid of you a bit!”she admitted. “Me? I am very easy going.  “He said. “You remind me of the acedrmic deen at seminary.  “She said.”please tell me he had a full head of hair. I have never been compared to a deen before. It is better then a dril sergent. I was not afraid of the deen of men at my college.  I am strict on holiness, conduct . i considered it liberal to listen to the gathers or to read the new king James.  In how i act i dont think i am strict. I am not grumpy or stern. ” he said.

“You see yourself as head of the house hold. Do you ser yourself as outranking me?”she asked. “I dont see myaelf as outranking you. I do have leadership.  I do believe in partshership. People at my church do not see me as authoritarian. I hope that the way i run the church is how i lead the family. I hope i can earn your trust. That is importent to me. I hope there will come a time where your ur not afraid of me or see me like the academic deen.”he said.

“Thats bug you a little? “She asked. “Only becuase i am known by my congregation as easy going. I would hate for my wife to feel that she has limited acess to me. My parents are a unit. They think differently but they are one flesh.  I want that for us. I really do.” he said. As he talked he played with her hair.

“So do you make all the decisons or do i get consulted?” she asked. “I believe the husband gets the final authority. He holds leadership of the family. Having said that i want you to feel you can talk to me about anything.  I want you to have acess to me. I want you to be part of the decison process.  I know we wont agree. I dont want a my way or the highway. My flesh wants that. I know its best. The last thing i want is for you to be misierible. I want you to be happy. ” he said.

“Well i like getting my own way. I like being in charge. I know that me getting my own way is not best. I just want to be involved in your deliberations.  I want to know your thought process.  I want to be in the loop. “She said.

“I can do that. I am not a dictator. I am forcefull. I am opinionated.  I know that i am not infalible. As a pastor i keep in mind that i am an under shepard. I answer to christ. I am a stuward. I am not the guy. I have to keep that in mind and i try to. ” he said.

She wanted to trust him. She wanted to embrace him. It was  hard for her to trust him. She wanted to but she was a sceptical person. She was sometimes cynical. She found it hard to trust. Could she lower her defences. Could she let her shields down and let him in. Was he realy the man he claimed to be.

They got up. They had a light snack before church. They went to the same church they had the night before. She was not used to the church but she liked it.

After church they went to the car. “Do you want to go out for ice cream?” he asked. ” yea. Sounds good. “She answered.  They went to the ice cream store. She got a chocolate sundae. She sat down.he brought the ice cream.

“What is that?” she asked. “It is my ice cream. ” he said. “It looks like it is multiple flavors with every toping that exist. Do they have any topings left?” he asked. ” yes they do. I dont do this very often . This is my honeymoon,  why not go big. “He said. She laughed.” your not going to be able to eat again for a mounth. ” she told him.

He chuckled. “Want to try a taste?” he asked. “I am almost afraid to” she said. She took her spoon and diped in. She tasted it.” its good but it is a bit of an overload. ” she told him. He laughed.

They held hands as they went to the car. He looked at her. She saw him looking at her. She saw the way he looked at him.
