Unlikly couples part five

The next day, craig called becky.  She did not answer. He left a vioce mail.”hi beck its Craig.  Look i just wanted to say hi. Call me when you can. “He said.

He was sad that she did not answer. Mayby she was buisy. He wanted to talk to her.  He decided to wait and try later. She did not call back . he tried to call her again. He could not get a hold of her.

He decided to give her some space. He waited. On Tuesday she called him.he ran for the phone. ” hi hunnie!”he said. ” hi Craig.  Look i am sorry i have been distent for the last few days. I want to take a break for a while.  “Becky told him.

“Oh ok!  If that is  what you want. For how long?” he asked. “Im not sure. I don’t know if this is a good idea. You and i. We are just too different. I am just not  sure we can make it work. I think we need to take a step back and give this some thought.  “She said.

“Oh ok. If thats what you feel is best. Bec i really care about you. I want to make this work. “Craig said. “Your a sweet guy. I just dont know. I will let you go. “She said. “Ok. ” he answered.

He said his goodbye.  He was sad to hear that. He wanted to continue this relationship.  He wished he had not said anything.  He hardly new how to break this stand still. He did not want it to end this way.

He tried to focus on the church.  He tried to stick to bussiness. It was not easy. He still wanted this relationship. He hoped that this was not really the end.

He checked her face book page. Her post were church ot community events. Nothing too much. She shared some post from united methodist church and music page. He hated staying away.

He wrote her a note. One he never intended to send. He told her how he missed her. When they were maried she found it. It was one of her favorate notes from him.

It was two weeks sence he last spoke to her. He hoped he would have been ok but he was not. He stil missed her. Nothing has changed. He knew that they had a lot of hurdles. Being apart was not the answer. Trying to ignore how they felt was not working. He did not know what else to do.

He wanted to call her. He felt he should not. He felt he should honor her wishess. He did need to give her some space.  Even though it was hard.  He used the time to get closer to the lord. He tried to prepare his heart. He started to see this as an oportunity to get closer to God.

He had been invited to attend the 20th anniversary of his the church his farther founded. He decided to go. This was a huge development for the church that inspired him. This started his road to ministry. He was excited to celebrate it.

He agreed to pic up his sister sadie who lived in between hagervile and his parents in the town of morrison. Stoping to pic up sadie in dawson would justify pasing though where reverend becky lived. He could say he was just pasing though.

He found a large stuffed eliphent. He decided to get it for becky. He would give it to it. It was huge and barly fit in the car. He hoped that she would accept it. Not only for the syimbolism but because it took so much space. If she did not accept it. Perhaps he coukd give it to his baby sister and youngest brother.

He arived at sadie’s apartment. She saw the large animal. “What is that?” she asked. “I want to make a stop on our way. It is for a friend.  ” he said. “Ok. Where are we stoping?” she asked. “Foster. ” he said. “Who do you know in foster?” she asked.

They drove to Becky’s house. Becky lived in the parsonage.  She was the first pastor to do in quite a while. The parsonage was rented out to a family. They decided to move just before she was called to pastor.  She decided to move in sense she was not from the area. It worked out for her.

He saw her car so she figured that she was home. He parked the car. Sadie was confused by all this. “You have a friend who is united Methodist? “She asked.   “Yea. She is really nice!” he said. “She?” sadie asked. They got out of the car. He had trouble moving the eliphent.

Becky had a low key morning. She was easing into the morning.  She read from the bible and drank cofee and had toast. She was spending tine at her house. Later she planed to go to her church office. She wore a black t shirt abd jeens and was barefoot.  Usualy she wore skirts. She figured that she would change before she went to the office.  She saw the car in her drivway. She recognized the car. She did not recognize the young women with him. Why was he hear?

She wanted to run away. She decided to talk to him. She sliped on flip flops and went out to see him. “Hi beck. Look i know that you and i are on a break. I am heading to see my parents and i wanted to say hi. I have something for you? ” he told her.

She looked the stuffed animal over. “An eliphent really?” she said . she rolled her eyes as she said it. “I thought it was ironic. ” he said. ” oh!” she said.

“This is my sister sadie. Sadie this is becky granger. ” he said. “It is good to meet you?” sadie said. “It is good to meet you. ” becky said. “Sade can beck and i have a few minutes? ” he asked. ” sure! ” she said.

Becky and craig walked around the propery. ” look i know you wanted me to stay away for a while. I wont stay long. I am sory i brought up the whole dating thing. I should have known that it was not thr right time to bring it up. I got inpatcent. I know there are a thousands obsticles to our relationship.  There are probaly hurdles we have not even considered. We are different in so many ways. We have almost nothing in common. ” he said.

“You know you are not doing a good job selling this?” she asked. ” i know. This is not going to be easy. This might be the hardest thing we have ever done or will do. There are a thousand reason why we should not do this. Why we just walk away. I can only think of one reason why we should persure this. ” he said.

” whats that? ” she asked.  ” its Gods will. Who the lord has joined together,  let no man tear asunder. I believe that. I dont totaly understand it. You said you enjoyed being with me. I love being with you.  When i am i dont want to be anywhere else. I know you feel the same way.  It was not love at first sight. That night at the cofee shop i thought this is her, this is my wife. I dont have all the answers.  I dont have any answers. I know your afraid to get close to me. I understand why. I have a lot of love to give. Thats what i came to say. Call me if you want to. ” he told her.

He started to walk away. “Craig! Wait!” she said. He stopped. She hugged him. He held on to her. “I mised you. I will call you later ok?” she said. “Ok!” ” he said smiling.

She walked him to his car. “It was good to meet you sadie. We will have to talk sometime. ” shw said. “I would like that. ” she said. They said there goodbyes.  They drove off.

“You have some explaning to do.  ” his sister said.  ” i know. We met while i was on my way home from visiting my college. I happened to stop there. I did not know that it was a united Methodist. She came up to say hi. A couple houers later…” he said.  She laughed. “We went to a cofe shop. A week later i came to visit her. A week after that she came to see me. We did not define our relationship.  We just kept seing eachother. It was going great until i opened my big mouth. I asked what this was. I kind of wrecked every thing. ” he said.

“Well ,you could have not have known that will be the result. You were understandibly curious.  Who would not be?” sadie said. “You know me i am inpatient.  What if i did irreparable damage?”he asked. ” she feels the same as you do. I can tell. She is just afraid. “She said.

“What is she afraid off?”he asked. “You and her not working out. She probably thinks one of you will give up there dream. She assumes it will be her. I think there is more. There are a lot of things that could go wrong.i can tell she cares for you deeply.  She does want this.  I am sure of that. “She told him.

“What do i do?”he asked. “The thing your not good at. Being patient.  “She said. “I knew that was coming. Ok. “He said. “I think you two can work all this out. I realy do. I should have known you would find someone evenually. Mayby your not called to singleness!”she said. “Did you think you were?”she asked. “No but i was begining to wounder. “He said. She laughed.

“I like her. “Sadie asked. “How am i going to sell her to mom and dad?”he asked. “You could tell them she is a catholic and then when they calm down tell them the truth ” she said. “I dont think that will help. ” he said. She chuckled. “Probably not. ” she said.

“It certainly does complicate things. ” he said. “It does . the most worthwhile things usually are. ” she said.

End of part five.

Next up becca and craig sit down for a heart to heart talk during his dads church’s anniversary.

This is now part two

“So are you dating anyone?”jim asked.  “No . i am not. ” she said. “You should.  Your an amazing godly women. You will make a great wife. You should be open to finding someone. “He told her.

She had no idea how to respond to all of this.  Why did he say that? Did he have no interest in her? Why was he pushing her to move on? Why did he want her to mary someone else.  She found this disconcerting and frustrating.  She tried to remain calm but she found it dificult to do so.

“I am at peace.  I trust that the lord will provide a husband at the proper time. I am content. I seeno need to get nervous about it. “She said.

“You will be a great wife!” he said. Why did he keep saying that? She thought to herself. It irked her. She wanted to be his wife. Why was he pushing this?

“Your not seing anyone?” she asked. “I am too buisy. I believe i can date a sister in the church.  It is problematic.” he said.
“You dont regret not marying me? “She asked. “We were heading into different directions.  Two canot walk unless they be agreed.  You would not be happy in this world. I would not be happy in yours. It was not ment to be. “He said.

“I dont agree. I dont think i ever will. You should have trusted me. You should have given me a chance. ” she said.

She did not want there reunion to be like this.  She did not want them to fight. She just wanted to be happy with him. Despite her hurt she stik had strong feelings towards him.she still loved him.

He had no idea how to respond to what she said. “You have to admit that we were heading in different directions.  Your patents were have never suported it. It would have been a mess. I did not want to make you chose between your family and me. I still believe in parental oversight of marriage.  I did not want to put you though that.  ” he said.

“When you perposed i said yes. I pledged myself to you. I knew you were unhappy with fundamental bsptist policies and procedures. I knew you might distence yourself from the movement and gospel baptiat church.i committed to go whever you went. You just left. You did not give me a chance.  I did not have a choice. “She said.

“If i had, would you have gone with me? Would you havel left fundamental baptist and gone to an evengelical church? Would you disappointed everyone at church and at the college?  I was not sure who i was. I had to figure that out. “He said.

“I would have gone with you. I was prepared to fo just that.  I knew it would have been hard. If my parents had withdrawn there suport i would have tried to sit down and talk to them. I still wanted to Mary you. I knew you were not leaving the faith. Im sorry. Im sory i did not want our reunion to be like this. I am so glad to see you. “She said.

He smiled. “I am so glad to see you.  I missed you. ” he admitted. “I am so glad your pastoring a church. I liked seing you playing a guter. Never thought i would see that.  “She said.

She did not want to leave but it was getting late.  She had a ways to go. She came to see the reunuon not as a accidental occurence but a devine appointment.  “I should be heading back. ” she said.  “It was good to see you bec. Look call me as soon as you get home. I want to know home safely.  “He told her. “I will i promise!”she said.

She could tell that he did still care.  It warmed her heart. He walked her to her car. “Dont be a stranger. Feel free to come back to the church any time. “He told her. “Thanks i think i will. “She said.he hugged her. He planed for it to be a quick hug but becca was not quite ready to let him go. The embrace continued before they let each other ago.

“I will see you around. “She said. “Im glad. I want that.” he said. “I do too. “She said. They started to disperse. They went there seperate ways.  That would not be foever.

On her ride home, she kept thinking about jim. Something was stired in her.  Her family and church had encouraged her to date again. They even tried to set her up with someone else.  She recoiled at every turn. As she drove home ,she began to realize why. She still wanted to marry him. She was just not sure how to convince him of that.  Would he want her back?

When she got home, she called home. “Hi. I made It home. ” she told him. “Hey bec. Im so glad. I was woried.i figured that you would be fine but i was still concern. “He told her. “You do still care about me?”she asked. “Always!” he said.

“Im so glad to hear that. ” she replied. “Seing you today was the hilight of my day. Some things don’t change do they?” he asked.  “No they dont.” she told him. ” it was really good to see you. I missed you.  ” he said. “I am so happy i got to see you. ” she said.

Becca had a warm feeling about seing him. Something was stired in her. She would not let him go this time. Her feelings for him had not change. Mayby back then was not the right time. She was begining to think now might be.

Did he feel the same way about her that she did about him? He was a different person. Could it work? She felt an urgency about this. She realy wanted to get back together with him. She knew it involved change and sacrifice. What relationship did not.

During mid week bible sunday pastor jim as he was called, was flooded with questions.  He expected as much. “So who is becca? “Ben asked. “She is an old friend from my fundy days. “He said. “You are just friends?” another asked.  “Well! …”he said.

He was suprised by his church’s interest in her. He kept to business iness. He poored himself in the church. He did not make time for much else. Seing him with her peeked there intetest.

They saw a different jim. He was task orientated.  He was qiet. Around her he was different.  He was relaxed.  The church loved there pastor and he them. They wanted to see him happy.

When becca got home, she was not at peace.  She had no idea Why this meeting had such an impact. One day she read devotional about how isack found his wife.  She felt stirred. She felt luke God was about timing. He did things in the right time. She felt this was the right time.

To be continued.

Next up becca decided to move to the same town as jim.

Unlikely couple part three

I went back to hagerville. It had been a good day. I was not sure what would happen next. Both of us were prety much winging it. It was quute a day. Quite a day indeed!

Another week went by. I was busy with church activities. I was enjoying my work. I was enjoying doing the work of the lord.

I was in my office. It was my day off but i was catching up with some paper work. I wanted to do a couple of things and then i will take the rest of my day off.

I heard the door open. I was not sure who it was. I left my office. It was becky. “Hi there reverend becky. Your still hear! You did not melt!” i remarked. “Funny! Hey pastor wallice! ” she said. He laughed.

“I got you an ice cofee. Its mocha three creams two sugars! ” she saidni smiled. “Thank you. I appreciate that! ” i told her. “No problem!  ” she said.

“What are you doing hear?” i asked. Using air qoates she said that she was in the neighborhood on bussiness.

“The truth is i wanted to see you.i thought this was your day off?” she commented. “It is. I Am a bit of a workaholic i guess. Are you in a rush to get back or can you hang out for a bit. I would love to give you a tour of the area. There is a park we can hang out in. ” he said.

“Sounds great! I would love it. ” she replied. “Awsome!” he said. The two left the church building.  “My car or yours?” i asked. “I will ride in yours. You probably dont want to ride in a car with a united Methodist bumper sticker. ” she said. “Oh ok,we will go in myine then. ” i said. She smiled and said an exited ok.

They headed to the car. I got in the drivers seat and she got in the passengers side of the car. I started the car. The car headed out.

“So originaly we met in my house. Then in the town hall. Then we brought this building. It was an ice cream store and a dance studio.” he said. “That is quite a change!” he said. “Yes it is. ” he said

We came to my street.  “This is my street. This is my house. I got some mony from my grand parents esate.i decided to buy land and the house. Its smal but nice. There is some land. We actualy had some services outside in the early days. There is room for a garden and kids could play in it. ” i said.

What was i doing.was i really hinting at domastic life? Aperently i was. “So. Did you buy the land with thoughts of being maried with kids?”she asked. “I considered it. “He said.

“Then you do want to married?” she asked. “I do. I am prety buisy . i have not had time to date. I dont feel comfortable dating someone at the church. I dont want to date a non christian. I would like a partner in the ministry.  My house coud use a women touch. “He said

They went to a bridge. He showed her various sites. Then they went to the park. They sat at a table. “So do you want to be maried?” i asked her.  “I do. I worry that i am just too dominering. I am woried most men would be intimidated by me. ” she said.

“I dont know, there are plenty of demure men in the united Methodist churches. I am sure you can find someone. ” he said. “Funy. You think anyone can put up with me?  ” she said.  “Your not so bad! “He said.

“You think i will find someone?  ” she asked. “Yes i defiantly do. You will be a great wife and mom. ” i told her. “How can you  be so sure?” she asked. “I just know. ” he said.

“I would like to find someone who is not afraid of me. Someone who can tame me perhaps. I dont know if he exist.  Do you want a quiet damure wonen?” she asked.

“No not necessarily.  I believe in male leaderahip but that does not meen my wife needs to be pasive or damure. I would never be arogent ebough to believe i have the answer.  I believe a man is the leader. He should consult his wife. I will always vailure your insight and you.i meen my future wife whoever she may be. ” she said. “Oh ok”she said

“Do you want your husbend to be week and subservient?  ” i asked. “No i actualy dont. I figure he probably will be. I would not mind a strong male as my husband.  It would be difficult for both of us. I like leading,i wont say i dont. I would not mind being led. ” she told me.

“I see you as a strong leader. You seam to be a director an administrator but i dont find you intimidating.  “He said.

“I am glad to hear that. You seam like a leader but not a dictator. You seam very competent. ” she said “thank you. ” he said.

“I hope that my futute husbend will vaulue me. Be patient with me. I will try to honor him . i would not want to undermine him..” she said.”things take time.  There is always ajustment. ” he said.

“I gues there is. “He said. “We can learn in that adjustment.  We can come closer though it. Well between you and your future husbend i meen. ” she said.

“So do you have any pets?” she asked.”a dog. A beigle named molly.you?” i asked. “I have a cat. Teeny.  No jokes. ” she said. “Ok!” i said.

“So are you planing to be with this church for a while?” she asked. “I love it hear. This is my first church.i have been able to mold it and develop it. I would hate to leave. I would like to be for a while . even my whole pastoral life. I dont know if that is what the lord has in mind.i am open to either. If he moves me. I am perfectly fine with that. So in your church it is up to your superiors?” he asked. “Yes. I like this church.they seam to like me. ” she said.

” you could end up on the west coast?” he asked. “Possibly.  I think i will be hear for a while. Would you miss me if i was gone?” she asked.”without a doubt! ” i told her.

“We dont have to worry about that for a while. ” she said. “Good! I am glad to hear it. ” he said.

They played volly ball fot a while. She beet him in thr first game. He beeat her the next. Then she won. “So do you grab a bite to eat?” i asked. “Yes this one on me ok? “She asked. “I dont know!  ” he said. “We can both contribute to this relationship! I meen our friendship whatever this is. ” she said.  “I really dont mind. ” he said.

” if i had planed this better, i would have made something. I make a meen chicken salid sandwitch. Next time can we do a picnic?” she asked. “That would be great.  There will be a next time?” i asked. “Do you want there to be?” she asked.  “I do.”i answered.
At dinner i asked her if she wanted kids. “I do. Mayby three. You?”she asked. “Four mayby. I am not sure. I defiantly want kids. “He said. “I think you would be a good farther. “He said.”im picturing you and your daughter. A mini you. You will make a really look momy.” he said. “I hope so. “She said.

“I have no doubtS.” i said. I pictured her and me hanging out with two kids. A boy and a girl. I liked that image. I looked at her and thought thats my future wife. She caught me. “What?” she said .i smiled.”nothing.  I got lost in thought for a minute. “I said.she smiled and said ok.

I had steak and she had a vegiterian dish. We had desert.i paid and then we left the resturant. I then drove her to a spot outside of town where you can see most of hagervile. I parked. We got out.

“This is my favorate spot in town.i figured i would save it for the end of your tour” he said.he took her hand and helped her up. “It is a beautiful spot. I can see why itis your favorite.  ” she said.

She took it all in. She looked around the town. “I am realy glad you came today. Its funy i had no plans for the day.never expected my day to go like this. ” i said.

“I like to shake things up. I am very unpredictable.  Your life is never going to be the same now that you have met me. ” she told me.

“I can see that. I am ok with that. I will adjust. ” i said. She laughed. “I gues mt life will change as well. I like these changes. ” she said. “We are in for an adventure.  Up,down and everything in between.  “He said. “Sounds good! ” she said.

I felt like things had changed. Nothing was the same. I liked it.it was scary.  It was frightening.  It was promising as welll. I knew i had to deny my self.abandon my self intetest. That was hard. I could see things in me i did not like. I knew i would have to change. I knew i had to focus on changing myself.  I had to work on conforming myself to the image of christ. That woukd not be easy but necessary.

“Well i should probably head back home. “She said. “I figured. I am so glad you came today.  ” i told her. “I am glad i did too. I am going to miss you. ” she said. “I will miss you too. ” he said.

They drove back to the church. They got out. “Look will you call me when you get home. I will wory until i know your home.”i said.”i will!”she said. “Thanks.  Have a safe trip home. “I told her.

I went back to my house. I did worry about her. Then i got the call.”hi hunnie i made ot back! “She said.”awsome. I am really glad. “I told her. “Look i wanted you to know that i had a good day. I know that becuase of sin there is no such thing as a perfect day but today was close.”she said.

“I know what you meen. I agree entirety.  “I said. “I will talk to you soon. “She said.”you got it. Bye for now.”he said.

To be continued.

“Unlikely of couples”

I was on my home from a conference at ambassador baptist college.  When on the road, i try to stop at a church . i stoped at a church   i been to before. I parked my car 🚗 at the parking lot.

It had been a while sence i had been to the church. The church was free Methodist church. It had become part of the united methodist denomination. I did not know this.if i had i probably would not have come in to this church.

The church was far more liturgical then i was used to. There was a perade of shorts. The pastor wore a robe and sash. It was a lady. A young lady. I had come to a church with a female pastor.

I gues i could have walked out but i did not. I was not sure why i did not. I did not end up staying though thr whole service. I was not sure if i should have or not but i did.

The music was a combination of hyims with some ccm as well. The pastor was an avid listener of k love.she and her 🎵  music director introduced it alongside the old hymns.

Her surnon was prety good. It was short. It was based on a text from the gospel. It was on jesus reading from isaiah in the temple. It was a good mesege. She focused more on earthly practical intetpretation of the text.

I would have taken a different tract with it. I have as i have preached on this text. It was fairly good. After the service i planed on heading right out. I did not want to get back home.

I got up to leave. I was sitting towards the back of the sanctuary.  I. Moved towards the door. People started to talk to me. I had spoken to many.  Then i got to the exit.

She was young. She was in her twenties. “Hi welcome to christ united Methodist church. I am rebbcca Morrison but most people call me pastor becky.” she said.

I tried not to cringe. I am a strong belever that pastors and deacons should be male. I believe that the bible teaches male leadership. I tried not to be disrespectfull. I was in her turf. I tried to be respectfull.

“I am craig wallice. ” i said. “What brings you hear?”she asked. “I am heading back to hagervile.i was at a bible confrence . i wanted to attend church on my way home.” he said.

“Are you united Methodist? ” she asked.  “Ah no! I am baptist. ” i said. “Are you one of those? ” she asked. I acted coy. I knew what she ment but i devided to feign igborence. “One of them?” i asked in a slightly sarcastic tone.

She chuckled. “Your a fundy!” she said.  “I dont know if i would put it in that term but yea. I perfer independent fundamental baptist. “She said.

“I am suprised you came hear.” i remarked. ” i used to come hear quite often. It been a while. The last time 🕙 i was hear, it was stil free Methodist. Pastor ottis was stil hear.” i told her.

“Oh! Things have changed sense that.  Pastor ottis died a few years back. The church numbers dwindled.  The united Methodist took it over.  They united Methodist send pastors. In this case me!” she said.

“I see. ” he said “so you probably would not have come had you known that it was united Methodist or had a female pastor?” she commented.

I had to admit that was true. “No to be honest i probably would not have. ” he said. “Well do be offended but i am glad that you did not know. I am glad you came. ” he said. “It is good to meet you.” he said.

“Did you always want to be a pastor?” she asked. “As long as i can remember. I wanted to be a race car driver too but that did not endure it as long as my desire to be in the ministry.  What about you?” i asked.

“Not as long. I wanted to be some kind of professional.  I wanted to be a nurse or doctor. I went to school to be a social worker but decided to go into ministry. ” she said.

“I see. ” i said. “You dont approve of me being a pastor?” she asked.”i do disagree with women being pastors or deacons. I believe men should be in positions of authority in a local church. I believe the bible clearly teaches male leadership.” he said.

“Well! I do not share that view. While example in sctipture are for males, there is no command that pastor and deacons be male. “She said.

“A pastor should be the husband of one wife. First timouthy 3:2. That is prety clear. Paul made it clear that he beleved that women shod be silent in the church. ” he said.

“That is an example not a command.the women at the church in ephasis were uneducated for the most part. Many may have been new believers.  It became a free for all. Today women are educated.  Most people alow the pastor or teacher to teach. “She said.

“Jesus is the same yesterday today and foever. God is a God of order. The plan has always been male leadership. This goes all the way back to adam. I dont see any reason to alter it. ” i said.

“So do you see my pastorship as illegitimate? ” she asked.”i am not hear to judge you. ” he said. ” a little bit of diplomacy?”she asked. “I am a guest hear?”i remarked they laughed.

“We are a welcoming church. All are welcome even cantankerous baptist!” she said. “I sm not that cantankerous!  A little bit of a cammugin! “He said. They both laughed.

“You know we are the only ones hear?” she said. “We are. We probably shod not be alone together. ” i said. We both quickly left the church building.  She locked up.

” do you go out for cofee?” she asked.”ok! Do you usually ask out new visitors?” i asked. She chuckled.”no i dont. ” she said.

I followed her car.  My car did not have hardly any bumper sticker. I only had one. It was an i love 💘 my beigle. She had several including one for the united Methodist church.

We went in. I paid for both of ours.she had a mocha swirl ice cofee with a turbo schot of mocha. I just had mocha. “You did not have to pay for myine. I go a little nuts. Thank you i apreciate it.” she said.  “No problem. ” i said.

“So. Tell me about yourself pastor becky!”i said. “Well i grew up in Wisconsin.  I grew up independent fundimental baptist. I kinda rebelled and planed on becoming a social worker. I stil beleved. I decided on less rigid denomination.  The pastor encouraged me to become a minister. I transfered my credets. Hear i am.”she said.

“What do your parents think?” i asked.  “They are glad that i returned to the faith. We have become close despite our doctrinal differences. They stil hope i will get over this. Get it out of my system. ” she said.

“I see.is this a phase you will get out of?” he asked. “You never know !”she said. I laughed.

“So what about you? ” she asked. “I was born in south carolina. We moved to a church in indiana. Then he started a church in anderson. I went to ambasador and then worked at my dads church then started the one i am at now ” i told her.

“Is your church new blood or disafected people from orther churches?” she asked. “We have a lot of new converts. We have some who were disillusioned at other churches.  My passion is to reach the loss and to deciple new belevers who will go out and impact there community.  I am not trying to sheep steal but it does happen. ” i said.

I could not believe i was pouring my heart 💙 out to a complete stranger.this was not like me at all.i was pouring my heart 💙 out to a female united Methodist minister. What was going on? Was i totally out of my mind?

“I will have to visit your church some time!”she said.  “Definently. I would love 💘 that. ” i said. I had no idea if she ment it or not.

I felt like she was an old friend. I felt like i have known her for years. I lost all track of time.

“Wil you admit you know me?”she asked.  “I think i will. I am not totaly sure. ” i said. She chuckled.

“I realy should be heading back. ” he said. “Ok. You probably should.it was good to meet you. ” she said.”it was good to meet you pastor Becky! “I said.

“You really dont have to call me pastor becky. Becky fine.”she said “i like calling you pastor becky. ” i said. “I noticed. ” she said.

I walked her out to her car. “Have a safe trip home craig. ” she told him.”thanks. Have a great night. ” i told her.

We got in our car and went out seperate ways. It was funy i had a great time at the confrence. I ebjoyed being at my colege. What i remember the most from that trip was attending that church.

Becky and i later decided that was out first date. Really it was. We just did not know it.i think i lnow that Becky would one day become my wife.

End of part one.

Aranged mariege part four

James and jeny had just been maried. Unlike most wedings they had never met prior to the nuptials.they were part of a mariege aranged by both set of parents. What they did not know was that one was a independent fundamental Baptist minister, the other a united Methodist minister.

We pick up the story today on there first day as a maried couple. They have just woken up and are eating a light breakfast and cofee.

“Have you been to this church before?”she asked. “Many times. I went there as a kid on vacation. I usually go hear at least once a year. I realy like these cabins and camp sight. I like this area. ” he said.

“Is the church strict and seperated. Hymns, king james, dreses etc.” she remarked. “Yes.  All of that. ” he answered.

“Well at least i know what i am getting into. I know something to expect i guess. “She remarked.

“It is a good church. They are very friendly. It may be different then you are used to. ” he said. “I am sure i will be fine.  “She told him.

After eating mufins and drinking coFe,they decided to  get ready. They used the facility shower facilites. They then got dressed and got ready to leave.

She wore a purple shirt and black skirt. She braided her hair into a pony tail. She wore sandles. He had a dress shirt and black pants. He saw her and smilled.

“You look realy nice. ” he said. “Thank you. You look nice yourself.” she said. He hesitated at first to display physical contact. Then he realized that he is maried and he was free to show physical contact. He went over and hugged her. She hugged him back.

They got there bibles. He had a king james version.  She had an revised standered version. They held hands as they went to the car. The car started. The car drove off and. Headed to the church.

This was so sureel. She felt like she woke up in an alternate universe.  She woke up on her weading day beleving that she was marying a fellow Methodist minister.  The truth was she had maried an old fashioned independent fundamental Baptist pastor. She was shocked by that. She never expected him to be like that.  She had a major adjustment now. It was quite a shock to her syistom.she was trying to short all this out. She had no idea how to do this.

James had no idea what to do. He feared that she would never raly be his wife. Her heart would never fully be in this.  He feared that she would his wife in name only. He feared that she would be a potempkin wife in a potempkin marriage.

They were both qiet in the car. He became woried. His heart started to sink.he took out his hand and took hers. She gave to him. They smiled. The car arived.

The church was a fairly  smal building. The car parked in the parking lot. The two got out. They held hands and they walked towards the church.

They walked towards the door. They saw a door greater.  He recognized him. “Hi Arnold.  “James said.”james hi. Welcome back. It is good to see you. “Arnold said.

Arnold was a man in his fithties. He had attended this church sence he was in his teens. He was quite a ficture in the church. He was a grandfather and was a piller of the church.

“This is my wife jenny. ” he said . “your maried now. Congratulations. ” arnold said. He explaned that they had just got maried.  Arnold was very excited.

James did not know everyone but knew almost everyone. They engaged in convetsation with verious attenders in the church. They engaged in mingling and then sat down.

The pastor came over. “Pastor foster.  It is good to see you. “Pastor ted gail said. “You too pastor gail.”he said.he shock the hand of the older pastor. “This is my wife jenny. We just got maried yesterday. “He told him.

“It is good to meat you jeny. I hope you enjoy our church.”he said. The church was very old fashioned. The church had a piano and an organ.  The church only played the old fashion hymns.  Everyone dresed conservatively. Man wore suit and ties. The ladies wore dreses or skirt.

Jeny pastored a litugical church. The service was filled with rutuel. She wore a robe with a sash. She preached from a lexionary. The service folowed a format observed every week. There was a new and old testiment reading.the whole service was planed carefully. This servive had a format but it was different.

She felt a bit out of place. She tried to make the best of it. She was not sure what to make of all this. In a Methodist service, there was reading from the gospels then a message was given inspired by the text. Many i.f.b used topical format. Usualy there was a primary text. It would branch off to other paseges.

Of course the messeage was om abandoning the fundimentles of the faith. That included abandoning the king james bible, the hyims, key doctrines etc. She tried to be oppen minded. She tried to ababdon any biases she might have.

He wounded how she took all of this. Was she offended.  Would she mad at him for bringing her hear.would it create a gistalt where he had his world,  she had his and never shal the train meat. During the service he squuzed her hand. Sh squuzed it back.

After the service they went back to the cabin. Neither one said said much.  They were not sure what to say. “I had no idea that that was he would preach on. I did not pay him to preach that. “He said.”i know that. I was not offended. “She said. “Ok. I realy want to ease you into all this. I am sure that you will want to introduce me to united methodism. “He said.

“I know.  I am ok. “She said. “You sure? If you were offended. I would like to know. I want to understand you . “he said. “I appreciate that. I really am ok. ” she said. “Look. Your feelings are importent to me. I want you to feel free to tell me anything.  ” he said.  “Thank you i really do appreciate that. “She said.

They drove to the cabin. Each cabin had a gril area. He cooked burgers.  She liked watching him grill. He took off his suit coat and tie.they eat.

After diner they took a nap. He set the alarm. They both laid down.  He put his arm around her. She laid on his head. ” jeny ,the last thing i want is a loveless mariege. I am strict. I can be harsh. I want you and i to be partners.  I want us to work together.  I want to be kind. I want you to feel like you are free to be totaly oppen with me. I want to be your best friend. I want you to be my best friend.  ” he told her.

“I am afraid of you a bit!”she admitted. “Me? I am very easy going.  “He said. “You remind me of the acedrmic deen at seminary.  “She said.”please tell me he had a full head of hair. I have never been compared to a deen before. It is better then a dril sergent. I was not afraid of the deen of men at my college.  I am strict on holiness, conduct . i considered it liberal to listen to the gathers or to read the new king James.  In how i act i dont think i am strict. I am not grumpy or stern. ” he said.

“You see yourself as head of the house hold. Do you ser yourself as outranking me?”she asked. “I dont see myaelf as outranking you. I do have leadership.  I do believe in partshership. People at my church do not see me as authoritarian. I hope that the way i run the church is how i lead the family. I hope i can earn your trust. That is importent to me. I hope there will come a time where your ur not afraid of me or see me like the academic deen.”he said.

“Thats bug you a little? “She asked. “Only becuase i am known by my congregation as easy going. I would hate for my wife to feel that she has limited acess to me. My parents are a unit. They think differently but they are one flesh.  I want that for us. I really do.” he said. As he talked he played with her hair.

“So do you make all the decisons or do i get consulted?” she asked. “I believe the husband gets the final authority. He holds leadership of the family. Having said that i want you to feel you can talk to me about anything.  I want you to have acess to me. I want you to be part of the decison process.  I know we wont agree. I dont want a my way or the highway. My flesh wants that. I know its best. The last thing i want is for you to be misierible. I want you to be happy. ” he said.

“Well i like getting my own way. I like being in charge. I know that me getting my own way is not best. I just want to be involved in your deliberations.  I want to know your thought process.  I want to be in the loop. “She said.

“I can do that. I am not a dictator. I am forcefull. I am opinionated.  I know that i am not infalible. As a pastor i keep in mind that i am an under shepard. I answer to christ. I am a stuward. I am not the guy. I have to keep that in mind and i try to. ” he said.

She wanted to trust him. She wanted to embrace him. It was  hard for her to trust him. She wanted to but she was a sceptical person. She was sometimes cynical. She found it hard to trust. Could she lower her defences. Could she let her shields down and let him in. Was he realy the man he claimed to be.

They got up. They had a light snack before church. They went to the same church they had the night before. She was not used to the church but she liked it.

After church they went to the car. “Do you want to go out for ice cream?” he asked. ” yea. Sounds good. “She answered.  They went to the ice cream store. She got a chocolate sundae. She sat down.he brought the ice cream.

“What is that?” she asked. “It is my ice cream. ” he said. “It looks like it is multiple flavors with every toping that exist. Do they have any topings left?” he asked. ” yes they do. I dont do this very often . This is my honeymoon,  why not go big. “He said. She laughed.” your not going to be able to eat again for a mounth. ” she told him.

He chuckled. “Want to try a taste?” he asked. “I am almost afraid to” she said. She took her spoon and diped in. She tasted it.” its good but it is a bit of an overload. ” she told him. He laughed.

They held hands as they went to the car. He looked at her. She saw him looking at her. She saw the way he looked at him.

They went home and schot around a ball. Then they went inside. “You know i am a little afraid of you. ” he renarked. “Realy?” she asked. ” you are really smart. You graduated third in your class. You are way snarter then me. You are very accomplished.  You are a bit intimidating. You have a towerring presence. ” he remarked. She chuckled.

“I get that alot! ” she said. They both laughed. He hugged her. “This is when you say your not that scary. ” he said.  “I am prety imtimidating!” she said. He kissed her. “I gues i kinda like to be intimidating. I dont want you to be afraid of me. I dont want that at all. ” she told him. “Ok. “He said.

They watched star trek on her laptop.  They cudled as they watched.  She loved it. He did not quite get it. Then they fell asleep.  It was quite a first ful day of mariege.

End of part four.

Christian romance

In sunday school, they had been the two smartest student. They knew all the answers. They should. Andrew was the son of the pastor. Amanda was the daughter of a deacon. They were in the same grade and we’re close to the same age.

“Some day you two are going to be maried. I hope you will invite me to the wedding!”miss granger the first grade sunday school teacher remarked. They both denied that they would be maried.they both knew that it would happen.

Then it all changed. Amanda’s farther decided to take a job at a Bible college on the other side of the country. On the day before she left, she kissed him on the forehead. ” Someday we will get married. “She said. They never saw each other again. Well up until this point.

Andrew and Amanda moved on. They forgot about each other.they went into very different directions. That was about to change. Andrew and Amanda went to the same Bible college. They had no idea that they had gone to the same college. They did not know that at first.

It was a week into the school year. Andrew went to a table . He sat down.he did not anyone at the table yet. He introduced themselves. The last person to introduce herself was Mandy. “Hi I’m Mandy. ” She said. “I’m Andy!”he said.

The conversation mostly consisted of small talk. It concerned classes and things of that nature. “So where are you from?”she asked Andy. “Everywhere but currently in Concord new Hampshire. Where are you from?”he asked her.”I too have been over the country and Canada. Right now I am living in Hastings Michigan . “She said.

They had no idea that they knew each other or did. “Where were you born?” She asked. “Outside at. Paul Minnesota. My dad was a pastor there.”he said. “I was born in at. Paul. My dad is a pastor now! He was a deacon at a church there. ” She said. ” What church was it?”he aske.” Biblically based Baptist Church. “He said.”my dad pastored biblically based Baptist Church . “He said.”what is his name?”she asked. ” Bryan Rollins !”Andy said. “Oh my! My dad is Philip gray. ” She said. “No! Amanda?”he asked.

“Well I have not gone by Amanda in quite a while but yes it’s me! ” She said. Andy was a bit embarissed. He had remembered the last time they saw each other. She was his kiss. It was on the forehead. He did not think it was appropriate. His dad told him that under the circumstances it was OK. Over the years he had never quite got her out of his mind. He did not think if her constantly. Every once in a while he remembered her.

Could he be dreaming? Was his child hood friend really right next to him. This seamed impossible. Yet it seemed to be happening. He could not believe this. He thought he would never see her again. Hear she was.

Mandy was really surprised. She never thought that she would ever see him again. When she was young that was the worst day of her life. She begged her dad not to move. He told her he understood that this was difficult but change is a part of life. Sometimes God moves people to a new place. He told her it would get easier. It did. She moved on. Life went on. She still though about him every once and a while.it had been a long time since she came into her head.

She was shocked. It was not that unlikely that they would meet up eventually. It was still improve. Hear they were. It seemed like something far fetched. Hear she was. Hear he was.

“I can’t believe it’s you. This is unreel.” She said. “I know what you mean. How are you?”Andy asked. ,”Good. I am a pastoral major.”he said. “I am not surprised. I am a music major. “She said. “I think your mom played every instrument out there . I figure learning to play musical instrument was hardly optional.” He said.” No it was not. I play the piano and violin and a few other. You play anything?”she asked. “I tried but it did not go well.”he said.she laughed.

They talked for a bit. Then they had to go and get ready for there classes.”it was good to see you. “She said. “You too. I am sure we will see each other around the campus and in classes. “He told her. “I am sure we will.” She said.

Andy wondered if she remembered the promise they made long ago. They had promised to Mary each other. That was a long time ago. They were young. he wondered if she remembered. He did not dare to bring it up. It was a bit silly. Of course they were not bound to it. Besides she might have a boyfriend or maybe even a fiencae. They might not have anything in common.iteas silly for him to even think about this. He should out these things be out of his head.it probably would never happen.he tried to put it out of his mind.

She could not believe she had seen him.she could not wait till tell her Perents that she had seen him. Her father credited his farther as the reason. He decided to pursue the pastor ship. Though they had lost touch , Andy’s family still had a place in her Perents hearts.  She wondered if he remembered there pledge to Mary each other. That was so long ago. What if he had a girl. He might be engaged.

They had plenty in Common all those years go.that does not mean they did now. This might be a mistake. Could they ever get over the past? Could they fall in love? Or would they simply love the thought of them.it seemed like a bad idea.

Were they headed for love ? It was hard to know. Only time would tell.

End of part one

Arranged marriage

Aranged mariege was once a common thing. It was accepted and practiced without much scrutiny. It has fallen into disfavor. It is not commonly practiced.

Greg and Gloria foster were a bit old fashioned. They home schooled there kids. They had a fairly large family. They decided to arrange the mariege of there children. This was understood and accepted. To them it seemed normal. There two oldest son had been married in this fashion. They were successfully marieges.

Now it was time for there third son James to be maried. James had gone to Bible school and now was pastoring a small church. He was showing signs of sprituel growth and maturity.

Given that his marriage would be handled by his parents ,he focused his time at Bible college on preparing for ministry not trying to pair off. He was fine with that. He trusted his parents. They decided that now that he was established in ministry it was time to have him get maried.

James had no role in this process. He did not even know that they were trying to find a wife for him. They spoke to  various friends of there’s. They were carefully trying to vett the potential wife and her family. They left no stone unturned. They looked and after prayer, they believed that they had found someone. They were very pleased with the choice.

One day his Perents asked him to drop by there house. He had no idea why. That was not that out of the ordinary. He had lunch with them.”son we have something to tell you.” His mom said. “OK! “He Said. “We have been looking for a wife for you. “She said.”I was not aware of that.” He said.,”yes . We wanted to surprise you and we wanted to be able to make a decision without interference”his dad said. “Of course I understand. ” He said. ” Good. We have found someone. ” She told him.

He was really surprised By this. He had no idea that they were looking. He was also surprised that they found someone.  ” Her name is Jenny . She is quite lovely. I think you will  really like her. ” his mom said.  “She comes from a good family. I think she will be a really good match for you. ” His dad said.

He was totally Schocked. He believed that he would be maried. He had not given it a lot of thought. He focused on other things like his ministry. Now that his parents had chosen someone for him to Mary he was curious. What was she like? Would they be compatible? Would he like her? Would she like him. He could not get her out of his mind. He was excited. No one would he be going though life alone. He would have a partner a company ion a helper. Who was she.

The way the arrangement was ,he would not meet her until the weeding day.all he knew was her name. Other then that,he really did not know much about her. Really he knew almost nothing about her. His Perents liked her. He trusted there judgement.

He tried to get his house ready for her. The church did not have a paersnege. He owned a house. It had some land. He hoped she would like it. He had no idea what she was like. He knew nothing about her personality. Nothing about her interest.

The time of the weeding had arrived. He was not allowed to see her until the weeding. He was usually calm and collected . He was 23 years old but acted like he was 53 years old. His usual calmness was replaced. He had a  thousand different emotions all at once.he did know that by the end of the day he would be maried. He would meet his wife.

He had heard that she was in the building. He was kept in another part of the church. “Are you ready?” His best man asked. “I am not sure. I think so!” He said. The two went to the main part of the sanctuary. He knew those airing on the groom side. He did not know hardly know anyone on the bride side. He was not expecting to.

The music began to play. Various members of the party arrived. Then the wedding march went up tempo. There she was. She had brownish hair. She was five six. He imagined that she was probably In her early twenties. She seamed younger then him. At five nine he was taller then him. He did not care if he was taller but did take that into account.when the farther of the bride gave her to him.he took her hand. There eyes met for the first time. His heart raced. He wondered what she was thinking. He wished he knew. They went though the vows.the pastor declared them husband and wife.

She ones over. He nervously kissed her. The two kissed.  The ceremony was concluded. ” Hi there! I’m your husband!” He said. She chuckled. “I guess so! Hello my husband!”she said. She took his hand. They walked out to the reception area. The reception went well. He still felt that he knew next to nothing about her. He had not gotten to say much to her.

After quite a while, the two prepaired to leave. They went to her car. Her sister was put in charge of making sure that her stuff made to his to there house. They went to the car. “So where are we going?” She asked. “I got a cabin in Vermont. Is that OK?”he asked. “Yea sounds good.”he said. He opened the door to the car for her. Then he got in. He had a CD of hyms playing.  They were instrumental. She was not much for hyms or instrumental music.

“So what do you do? “She asked. ” They did not tell you. I am a pastor. I pastor a small church. “He said. “I am a pastor too!”she said. “You are?”he asked. “I thought you knew. I pastor Trinity united Methodist Church. ” She said. “Oh I figured you were independent fundimental Baptist. ” He said. “I assumed you were united Methodist.”she said.

“Let me guess you voted for Hilary?”he said.”I did. Did you vote for Trump?”she asked. ” Yes I did. Reluctantly but yes. I really wanted Ted Cruz but it did not happen.”he said. ” Your King James only right?” She remarked. “I am.”he said. ” You only sing hymns. ” She asked.”true. You observe lent?”he asked. “I do. “She said. They had trouble carying on a conversation.

The drive took a few houses. ” Look can I change the music?” She asked. ” OK!” He said. She put on k-love. It was a CCM station. He was not really happy with it but decided to let it go.he supposed it would take ajustment for the both of them.they did not say much to each other for a while. He was starting to wonder what he had gotten himself into.

Why would his Perents pair him off with a Methodist minister. It made no sense. Yet hear he was. He was not sure how this going to go.

End of part one.
