Arranged mariege part six

Jeny was excited about getting maried.all her life, she was told her mariege would be aranged by her family. The fact that she could not chose her future husband did not brother her. She kind of liked the mystery.

He was not what shr expected. She was skepitcal at first. She was not sure that this could work.

She decided to give it a chance.  She found that she did like him. Despite there differences, she suspected that they could make a go of this.

She fell alseep that night in his arms. She woke up the next moring. She layed in bed for a bit. It was clear that she was not going to fall back to sleep.

He was still asleep. She decided to get up. She tried to tip toe out of bed without being heard.  She wanted to let him wake up on his own.

She made it to the smal kitchen-living room. She made the watter for cofee. She then put the cofe in. Then she truned the cofee maker on.

She made sausage eag breakfast sadnwitches. She was not surety when he was waking up bit it was stil fearly early. She read over Romans one while she was cooking. She was good at multi tasking.

He came into the dining area looking like a zombie. “Your not awake are you love?”she asked. “Not really. ” he said. She laughed. “Cofee is ready. I got sausage mufins done.” she said. “Cool sounds good.” he said.

She laughed. “You can sleep in longer of you want to hunnie.”she told him. “Oh no! I’m fine. I am beyond the point of faling back asleep. ” he said.”i am not concinced of that but ok.”she said.

“So what are our plans for the day?” he asked. ” well i thought we would go in the canoe again. ” she said.” cool. Sounds good. ” he said. “Then play some basketball. Then there is a cofee house that has jazz night. ” she said.

“Ok. ” he said. “Not keen on the jazz thing ?”she asked.” its fine. ” he said.” your sure?” she asked. “Of course. ” he said. “Ok. Just making sure. ” she said.

He enjoyed the sausage sandwitch. After a few more cups of cofee, he was much more awake then he had been. He felt like he was able to function more then he had been.

“I am awake now!” he said.  “Thats good to hear. ” she said. “I did not hear you get up. ” he said. ” that was what i figured. I was trying not to wake you. ” she said. “You succeeded. ” he reaplied. “I am glad of that. ” she said.

“Breakfast was amazing.  Thank you.” he said. “No problem. It did come out good.” she acknowledged.  They put everything away and thew away the trash.

They got ready for there day.  They got dressed. They headed for the beach area. He paid for the rentle. He came out. They went to the canoe. He helped her in to the small craft. They got the life jackets on and took out the paddles. The craft lunched.

They went out a bit.”this is so calm.so peaceful.  I love it out hear!” she said.”i can tell. I do too. ” he said. “I have always liked the watter. “She said.

“I like being on the watter. Just not in the water.  ” he said. “You dont like to swim?” she asked. “No. swiming is not really not my thing. I like being in a boat. ” he said. “Ah. I love everything about water.  From being in a boat to swimming.  I love it. ” she said.

“I will watch you swim from the shore!” he told her. She chuckled. “Ok. ” she answered.

They stayed in the water for quite a while. Then they went back to shore. They returned the canoe. They walked hand in hand though the property.

They went to the basketball court.  They started playing basketball. They started to play. She loved sports. They got conpetitve but it was all in fun. They played a few games. She won some, he won some as well. There were a lot of laughs.

“You give me quite a work out. ” he said. “I realy get in to my game.  ” she declared. “I can tell. ” he said. She high fived him. “Still friends? ” she asked in a playful mannor.he chuckled. “Still friends! ” he said. He hugged her. Then he kissed her. She was not expecting that.

They did not kiss alot. He did not seam to be too keen on physical contact. They frequently held hands. She was surprised he kissed her in the open.  Perhaps he was easing in to all of this.

He was a mystery to her.  He was serious. He was stoic. He seem to vailue logic above emotion. Not quite vulcan but close. He seemed to be a student of plato.

At the same time, he was a very funny man. He had a dry sence of humor. He liked to laugh. He liked to joke around. She was not sure how to interpret him. She had not quite figured him out. That was ok.she liked a good mystery.  He was definently that.

They went back to the cabin. He grilled hot dogs and hambergers. The cabin had a small fire pit outside the cabin. She took off her shoes.

They eat outside in a picnic table . “these are really good. “She said. “I am so glad your not a vegiterian or vegan! ” he remarked. She laughed. “I like vegetables.  I am not a carnivore like some people i know. I eat meat. I would not like just fruits and vegetables.  I want a verity in my diet. ” she said.

“I dont know how i would handle it if you were vegetarian.  ” he admitted. “I dont think that that would go over well. ” she responded. “Probably not. ” he admitted.  They laughed.

“If you were, we would figure it out. ” he said. “I am sure we would.  The good thing is that that is not a concern. ” she said. “True. ” he said.

They hung out at the cabin for a while. Then they changed and got ready to go to the cofee house.

She hoped that she was not pushing him too far by draging him to this. Pethaps this was a bridge too far. He did put her in charge of there days activities. A mariege involves two people. She hoped that he would not be miserable at the. Event. She considered not going. She did want to. She decided to go along with it.  It could be interesting.

She had no idea what he was thinking. Some times she wished that she had telepathy.  Other times she did not . She wished she did right now. How far could she push him? What was his limit?

They got ready to go. They changed cloths. He wore a polo shirt and tan pants. She wore a pink blouse and green skirt and flip flops. They headed out.

They got into the car.  She drove this time. The cofee house was not that far away from the cabin. They parked at the parking lot. They got out of the car. They walked to the building. They went inside.

They paid the smal entry fee. He got a hazelnut cofee and she got french vanila. She suspected he might be nervous about all this. She hopped that this was not a huge mistake. She hoped that this would not produce a big fight or a small one for that matter.  She tried not to burrow trouble. She did not want to create a conflict that did not exist and might not. She calmed down.

The jazz band started.  She loved it. There were several grouos. They were all very good. She was realy enjoying herself. She got a bit caught up in her own happiness. .she wondered how he was doing. She hoped that he was ok.  She wondered what was going though his mind.

The show lasted a couple hours.  They left walking hand in hand. “I hope that you were not too bored?” she remarked. “No. It was not too bad. ” he said. “I had a lot of fun. ” she said.”i can tell. I am glad you had fun. ” she said.

“Was it really ok?” she asked. He squeezed her hand. “Of course. This is your honey moon. I want you to enjoy yourself. ” he told her. “Your going to have to do this again sometime and again.  ” she admonished him. “I know that jen. I am fine with that. ” he said.

“It was ok we did this?” she asked. “Of course.  ” he assured her. “Ok. Just making sure. ” she told him. They got into the car. The car headed back to the cabin.

They got ready for bed. She put tank top snd pj bottoms.  He wore shorts. She put on a star trek episodes on her lap top. They cuddled while watching.

“So are you sick of me yet?” she asked.  He smiled. “No. Not at all. Are you sick of me?” he asked. She kissed him . Then she smiled.

After a while they decided to go to bed. She was getting used to be maried to him. She was enjoying him. She felt that they would be a good couple. She was glad of that. After a while they both fell asleep.

End of part six.

I know that duturonomy does not allow tatoos. ” she said. “I was not going to bring that up. ” he said.  They laughed.

“It is not repeated in the new testament.  ” she said. “I am aware of that. ” he said. ” i should not get defensive. ” she said. “No you should not. I am very easy going well for a fundimentulist. What is it you call me a fundy?” he asked.

“Yes. Moving on. Have you ever kissed anyone?” she asked. “A little girl gave me a kiss on the cheak when i was 8. It was quite the scandle in the church. We all quite a lecture from the pastor. Other then that and family no. ” he said.

“Well other then family of course. ” she said.”unless you live in alabama. “He said. “I can’t believe you went there! I cant take you anywhere can i?” she asked.  “No! Not without a buzzer or something! ” he said. She shock her head.

“So! Do i have to beat this girl up?” she asked.  “No she is maried. She and her husband are missionaries to zambia. ” he said. “Ok! Just checking.” she said.

“So your answer?” he asked. “I had a boyfriend in college.  We did kiss. I regret it now.  I have grown in maturity sense then. ” she said. ” was he a ministerial student?” he asked. “Yes he was. No he was not fithty. “She said. “So he was forty five?” he asked. She nabbed him. “No!” she said.

“Ok. I visited some missionary friends in eroupe but it was not technically a missionary trip per say. Canada was for missons conferences and to visit churches and friends. Have you visited foregn countries?”he asked.

“I visited canada, i have been to hobderas on a misons trip. I went to Guatemala and elsalvidor, those were misons trips.  I back packed though eroupe. I went to china as a tourest. I have been to Cuba. “She said. “I won’t ask. “He said. “Wise.”she said.they laughed.

“Back pack tgough Europe.  People still do that? “He asked. “Myself and a few friends did. It was great.  ” she said.  “Were you able to eat?”he asked. “Most of the time!”she said. “Oh! That does not sound good! ” he said. “I lost weight.”she said.

“Have you been to any concerts?” she asked. “Unless tou count mysic nights at a nearby independent baptist church no!”he said. “I figured.  I have been to Nickelback, lady gaga and justin bieber!”she said.

“Seriously?  Bieber?” he said. “Dont judge!”she said. “Come on that is so judge worthy!”he said. “Judge not.”she said. “There is difference between judging and discerning. I am discerning that is exceedingly silly on your part!” he remarked.

“do you own a gun?”she asked. “schot gun. i am a hunter. “he said. “i dont own a gun. i dont hunt.”she said.”are you pro guntrol?” he asked. ” no but i am not a big fan of guns. i take it you love the seccond amendment?”she asked. “i do” he said.”figures!”she said.

“Have you been hospitalized for at least one night?”she asked. “Yea i had to have surgery on my leg after i fell off my bycicle as a teen. I had a favor and had to be hospitilized as a child. You?”he asked.

“I had a prety nasty virus a few years ago. I had a knee injery a few years back.” she told him.

“Arested?” she asked. “No not so much as a speeding ticket. “He said. “You might get a drivng too slow sitation. My grandmother who is 80 years pld drives faster then you do ” she said.”what about you?” he asked. “I was arested during a protest. I spent a weekend in jail. It was a holiday weekend . evenidence proved i was peacefull and the charges were dropped. ” she said. ” thats good to hear. My future wife is not a fellon.”he said.”no im not. ” she said.

” do you smoke?” she asked. ” no.  You?” he asked. “No i dont. Spurgen smoked a pipe. ” she said. “And he beleved having a beard was a sign of sprituality. ” he said.  “Please promise you will never grow a beard?” she commented. “I am all set with beards. They are not realy my thing. ” he said. “Good!” she said.

“Drinking? “She asked. “No i dont drink alcohol.  Do you?”he asked.” yes. I am a social drinking.  An actual social drinker. ” she said. “Oh!” he said. He got really qiet.

“You dont aprove of drinking? ” she asked. “I am not a big fan of it.” he said.”i really dont drink that much or that often. ” she said. “Ok!” he said.

“Is this a deal breaker?” she asked.”no. Its not. We will work though it. ” he said. “Good.” she said.

“Do you beleve in aliens?”she asked.”no i dont. You?”he asked. “No not at all. “She said. “Thats good to hear.”he said.

“You snowmobile? ” She asked. ” yes i do. You?” she asked. “Yes i do. We wil have  to go ryding this winter?”he suggested. “Yea that would be great.”she said. ” that would be fun.” he said.

” can we ride in the same snowmobile, I can hold on to you.”she said.”oh ok. ” he said.

“What is your biggest fear?” she asked.he breathed a bit. “I fear going though the motions.  I fear havin a form of godliness but lacking the power thereof.  I fear doing and saying the right things but losing my first love. I heard someone say the opposite of sucsess os not failure bit succeding in things that dont matter. “He said.

She could see the dispair in his eyes. She saw that this was a real fear. One that he thought about alot.

“Promise you wont laugh about myine?”she asked. “Yea you have my word.”he said.”i fear the loss of control. I like being in control. I know that i am not always in control.the lord ia. I stil fight tooth and nail to stay on top. I know itis futile but i have trouble letting go ” she said.

“Letting go is not weakness.  He wants us best. He looks out for our best even if we dont like it. It is not easy all the time. I know that first hand. I struggle with giving up control at times. ” he said.

“What is the answer? ” she asked. “Trust him. Trust that he wants your best. Maybe not what you beleve is best but it is best.  Trust that it is. ” he said.

“I know that. ” she said. “Letting go is not easy but it is vital. It is worth it in the end.  ” he said.

“So, what is a secret you have never told anyone? “She asked. “I staeted to wavor in my call to ministry. I knew that i was called to ministry. I considered going to business school. I even aply to a chriatian liberal arts school . i have the acceptance letter. I keep it in my office at home. I was reeding though first and second timouthy. I realized that when God calls someone,  it is for a reason. I never told anyone. Not even my parrents. I realized that God lets us go so far and then he stops us. He kinda says,’ok that will do it. Time to do it my way”. I am so glad i stopped and did not go in that direction. What about you?” he asked.

“When i was 17, i snunk out of the house and hung out with friends. It was horible. It was scary being out that late. I was convinced my parents were up waiting for me. I was able to sneek back in. To my knowledge my parents have no idea. I realized that i wont totaly be protected. There are times if i want to go my way i can. I was living Romans one or proverbs one that day. That was hardly my turning point but it was an importent step. It was the beggining of the long road back. ” she said.

“Thank you for sharing that. Thank you for opening up. I feel like i know you so much now” he told her. “Thank you for sharing.  I feel the ssame  way. ” she told him.

“Ok one more question? What is an embarrassing thing about you?” she asked. “Um.on ocasion i draw comics about zaping monstirs. It is prety blend. I dobt draw them very often. ” he said . “i want to see this. ” she said. “They are not very good. ” he said. “Stil i want to read them! You have to show them to me. ” she said. “Ok! I will. ” he said. “Good! “She said .

“So whats yours? ” he asked. “I cant get to sleep unless i am huging my tedy bear i had as a kid!” she said. “No! Your kidding? ” he said “no im serious.  ” she said.he laughed.  “I had no idea. ” he said.

“So do you see us maried as something that probibly will happen?” she asked. “I do. I am open to the posibility that the lord could close the door.  Right now i am fairly confident that it wil happen. Is that how you feel?” he asked.

“It is. I was suprised by your wording.it was very definitive.  Certin.i had no idea you were that confident of this! “She said.

He hugged her. ” you are so special to me.i really beleve that the lord has brought us together. I dont understand it but i believe that.” he told her.

She knew that he ment it. “I believe that too. It does not make sence. I think your right. ” she said.

After lunch they played volly ball. They played a few rounds. Then they  decided to rest for a bit. “So did you mind answering my questiones?”she asked. “No not at all. “He said.”you opened uo quite a bit. I was suprised by your honesty. I appreciate it. I feel like i really do know more then i did. “She said.

“I feel the same way. Even though you wrote the quesrione. I senced the honesty. You risked being vanerable. I appreciate that.  ” he told her.

After a while she decided that she should head back. “I hate this part of the evening! ” she told him. “I know exactly what you mean.  I will miss you.”he said.

He hugged her. He watched her get in the car and go. When she got home, she called him. ” hi hunnie,i made it home!”she said.”i am glad. I always worry”he said.

“Someday when i go home,i am taking you with me!”she said.”i cant wait!”he said. “I will talk to you later.goodnight. “she said. “You too.”he said.

End of part 7

Next up sadie and becky hang out.

Unlikly couples part seven

Previusly on unlikly couple.

Craig wallice,a young pastor on a fluke visited a Methodist church. He met a young pastor. They seemed to hit it off.

They had a series of up and down. She wanted a break for a while. She ended up visiting him at his parent’s church.

Craig was tired but he had a good weekend. He thought that the weekend had gone really well. He wanted his parents and his church to have a good weekend.  It seemed that that happened.

He went to bed that night. He had slept in his old bed room. It did not look like it did when he lived there. He was exhausted.  He fell asleep verry easily. He was out till morning.

The next day he had coffe. He had breakfast with his family. “We posted a bunch of pictures on the church’s face book page. ” his mom said. She showed him a few.  He saw a group picture of church members. There was one of one of the extended wallice family.  There was a picture of the family with becky in the picture. There was a picture of craig and Becky.

“Sadie! Are you in rush to get home? I was wondering if we could stop and see bec. ” he sugested. “No i am not in a rush to get home. ” she said.  “I would like to take you and her out for dinner. ” he said. “Yea. Thats fine. ” she said.

After breakfast, Craig got ready to leave his childhood home. Sadie packed up as well. They packed up the car then visited a bit.

“It was good to have the whole family under one ruff again. ” his dad said.”it was good to be back. ” craig said. “Good things are happening at your church as well. I praise the lord for that. ” his dad said.  “Thanks dad. That meens a lot. ” craig told him. He hugged his dad.

He hugged his mom. “I realy missed you. ” his mom said. “I missed you mom. ” he said .he said goodby to his brothers and sisters as well. Then they headed out.  They got in the car and drove off.

They arived at Becky’s home. The car drove in. She watched them drive in. She came out of the house.

“Hi there!” becky said. He hugged her.  “I was hoping i could take you and sadie out for lunch. ” he suggested.  “Yes. That would be great. ” she said. “Awsome.” he responded.

She got ready to leave. They got into the car. “I thought the church celebration went really well.” becky said.  “It really did. My parents realy seemed to enjoy it. ” he said. “It seems like a good church. ” becky said. “It is. It has grown from what it was when it first started. At first it was our family and one other family and a couple kids. ” sadie said. “So did you model your church after your dads?” becky asked.

“In many ways yes. I used the church as a guide. I tried to put my own touches on the church i started.  I did modify a few things. ” he said.

“The church i pastor has been around for a long time. My predecessor was kind of old fashioned.  I had to slowly change things. I have kept it mostly the same as it was under pastor frank.” she said

They parked and went inside.  They sat down. “So are you the seccond oldest?” becky asked sadie. “Yes. They waited a while before having a seccond kid. ” sadie said.

“I kinda wore my parents out. ” craig said.” i was a much calmer babby. “Sadie said. “She was a prety easy baby.  Baby three merissa. She was very colicky. ” he said. “Do you have siblings?” sadie asked.

“Yes i have one older brother and three sisters. “She answered. “Do you get to see them much?”sadie asked. “Not too much.  We are not too close. “She said. “Im sory to hear that. “He said.”i was a bit of a problem child i gues. ” she said. “It seams like you have moved pass that. “Sadie said. “I have definently tried to. Old wounds take a long time to heel.”she said.

“So are you two close?”she asked. “I think i am his favorate!”sadie said. “We are very close. I dont have a favorate sibling. Mayby gracie. “He said. “Gracie is a year old. She does not count. ” sadie said. They laughed. Aftter a time they headed back to the car. They drove back to her house.

They got out for a minute. “It was so good to meet you sadie.”becky said. “Same hear. I am glad we got to talk. ” sadie said. “We have to doa girls day out some time. I would love to talk to you one on one. “Becky suggested. “You dont want me around? “He asked. “It would be fun to get to get know eachother without you. Lord wiling you will be my sister in law some day. ” becky said.  “I will give you my number. Thats sounds like fun. I look froward to getting to know you. ” sadie said.

Sadie said her goodbyes to becky. She got in the car. She figured that they wanted a few minutes to themselves.  “I am so glad you came yesterday. That was a great surprise! ” he told her.”i wanted to see you. I love being with you..i was afraid once we started talking. About what we are, that we would stop enjoying eachother.  So far so good. “She said.

“I love you. Iove your silyness. Your bubbly personality. Everything.  Your amazing reverend becky. ” he said. He hugged her. She held on to him. “I love you. Your qirks and all. Pastor Wallace ” she said. He laughed.

He headed to the drivers seat. He waved as he pulled out of her driveway. He headed out.

“So what do you think of her?”he asked.”i like her. She seems nice”sadie said. ” some times i think i am out of my mind to even think about such a relationship.  We are so different. Yet we mesh together so well.”he said.

“You do mesh together well. Your similar in manny ways. It is easier to spot your diffetences. Your more simar then you think.  “Sadie said. “I could see that. ” he said

“So do we think we can work out our differences.  Do you think we can make this work?” he asked. “To be honest i think you two will chose to. I think you will find a way.  I dont think either of you could really live with the alternative. “She said.

“I am trying to be carefull. I know that i can’t trust my heart. I know. The fact that she is a minister is problematic.  I know we have a lot to work out. A lot of it seems insurmountable.  “He said.

“You have grown up fast. You saw the things in your life that you need to improve on and you have made those changes with the lords help. Mayby this is not a time to run away. You two can work on this.  With every relationship the thought is to wall away at the first sign of trouble. Mayby this is not the time for that.  You may have to down the road. I realy beleve that as i said you will do whatever it takes to make it work. “She said.

“This is so unlike me. ” he said. “Mayby. Your ready for a relationship.  You were doing the work of the lord.you were not looking.  She showed up well you showed up. You two are cute together. ” she told her.

“You realy think so?” he asked. “I do. You two have something . thats clear. You two mesh.you conpliment each other. You have that thing. That spark. “She said.

“Its weird i did not feel lonley. I waa fulfilled.  I did not feel a void. I felr fine. I was content. Now that i have met her i can’t go back. I do feel that void. ” he said.

She smirked.  “You were doing what you were suposed to be doing. You were abounding in the work of the lord. Remember dad always says wait on the lord. His timing is always best. Mayby this is that time. ” she said.

“Perhaps it is. I had not thought of it that way. ” he told her. “I know you would find someone eventually. “She said.

He dropped her up.they said there goodbyes. Then he headed home. When he got home he called becky. “Hi hunnie! I made it back.” he said. That was the first time he ever called her hunnie. “Good. How was the trip back?” she asked. “It went good. No incidence. No wild life. ” he said.

“I had a realy good weekend with you. I love spending time with you. “She told him. “I love spending time with you bec. I was so glad that you came. I am so glad your in my life. “He said.

“No one has ever said that to me before.  I burn a bot of bridges. I am not that lovable. “She said.  “I meen it bec. Your very important to me. ” he said “your important to me too. ” she told him.

He took a nap for a while. He got up. He did some church work.  He called the chairman of deacon bored. He worked on his surmon. He checked his facebook. He saw a relationship request from becky. He confirmed. A notification came up. Craig wallice and rebecca granger are in a relationship.

His mom and sisters had tagged them in several pics. He saw a pic of him and her at thr church. There were several of them at the felowship hall. There were some of him with his family.  Sadie took some of them at bec’s place.

He saw that becky had become face book friends with sadie, his mom and his sisters merissa and alesha. She was becoming more a part of his world.  He stared at the pics. They looked like a husband and wife. They had not realy talked about mariege. It had come up but not a firm plan.

How would it work? Could it. Would they both continue pastoring. Where would they live. If one had to give up pastoring.  Who would it be? Could she pastor a church near him. What would his church feel about his wife being a pastor of a mainline denomination church? So manny questions.  So few answers.

There was time to figure all that out. He was surprised that he was thinking about it. That was interesting to him. She thought about it as well.

End of part seven.

Next up becky and craig ponder there futute together.  They learn more about each other.

Unlikly couples part four

The next day, pastor Becky arived at the church. She went to her office. She saw a series of flowers on her desk.  “Whats this?”she asked. “Oh. It is for you.”her asistent jill said. She looked at the card. “To pastor becky. Hope this britghens your day. You have brightened myine. ” it was singed pastor craig. She chuckled.

“Something you want to tell me becky?”Jill asked. ” he is a freiend?”she said.  “So is he the reason you went to hagervile?”she asked.  “Yea. He was the one that came to our church a few weeks ago.”Lilly said.

“Are things serious between you two?”jill asked.”i dont know. We did just meet. He is a fundy. I meen hatd core. “Lilly said. “Oh! He has not run for the hills?”jill asked. “Quite the opposite.  “Lilly said.  “You have not run for the hills?”jill asked. “No i have not. Should i?”lilly asked.

“I have never seen you like this. ” remarked.  “I have not felt like this i. Some time. ” lilly said. “Your bot afraid it cant work?  You two are destened for dissaster?”jill asked. “No i am woried about that. ” lilly asked.

“Why are you not runing for the hills?”jill asked. “Becuase i dont want you.” lilly said.  “I figured. Well i hope it works out. I really do. “Jill said. Lilly did not say abything but she hoped that too.

Later on in the day. Craig called her. “Hi craig!”she said. “Did you get the flowers?”he asked. “I did. Thank you so much. They were beautiful.  It was very thoughtfull. “Lilly answered. “I hoped it was not too soon. ” he said.”no! Your timing was perfect.  “She said.

She wondered what he ment by two soon. Was he thinking that they were a couple or would be someday. What was he thinking? Did he think that they had a future together. Did he want them to?

“I’m glad. Your not alurgic. I almost asked you but. I did not want to give away the secret. ” he said. “I am definently not alergic to flowers.  ” she said. “I am glad you like them. ” he said.

She found that he had a way of calming her. She liked that about him.he knew how to sooth her. The more she got to know him the more she came to love him. She admired him. She found him to be kind and gentle.

Though she was known as a strong leader at her church.  She was confident and competent.  She coukd be forcefull. She has wisdom and was good at stratigy. He had goals and had a plan to bring them to fruition. To outsiders she seemed to be all bussiness all the time. She was a workahilic.

She seemed to be all work. She had no real social life. When not involved in church activities she was involved in comunity and civic events. That was not the real her. Craig started to see a different side of her.

They rearanged there shudule so they could get tohether on saterday. Saterday morning they got ready for sunday. Saterday afternoon they would spend the afternoon together.  It was his turn to come see her.

She made chicken salid sandwitch. She made a chese cake for desert.  She brought chips. She liked to bake . she did not do it much. She was constently on the go.

He met up her at a park. They usualy did not engage in hardly any public display of affection but she hugged him. “How is the surmon coming?”she asked. “Really good. I am preaching on finding peace with God. My primary text is Romans. 3:24 but i am going to go though several ddifferent. verses.  You have it easy.  All you do is follow the lectionary. ” he said.

“Yes the topic is assigned.  I can have the fredom to take it where i will. I put my iwn personal touch. It is usualy a bit vaugue. ” she said. “If the topic or passege of scrupture is assigned mounths in advance by some luturgical body somewhere, where does work of the holy sprit come in? I dont know how many times my entire surmon has changed sometimes minutes before the surmon begins.” he said.

“God is a God of order. Lectionary is a tool that can keep a preacher from avoiding rabit trails. By designating the pasege it reduces the risk of preaching a pet peve. ” she said.

“I am careful not to go on a rabit trail. I dont know if i could never get use to having my surmon topics assigned every week. At bible colege i waa asishned to preach from seccond chronicles 7:14. I believe that was for the original readers not directly given to twenty first century america. The professor felt differently. I avoided the promise and dealt with it in the context of israel. I delt with getting right with God and his restoration while avoiding the promise aspect. I got good comments from the proof. He felt i should have tied it to america. Oh well!” he said.

“I take it you are big on independence of the local church?” she asked. “Yes. I believe that local churches shoyld be self governed.  I dont believe that churches should be islands.  I meet up with area fundamental pastors. My dad is a pastor and i stay in touch with him. I keeo acontible with an area pastor i should consider a sprituel farther.i do believe in acontibility. ” he said.

The picnic was a huge success.  He loved the chicken salid sandwitch.  She did not realize he could eat. He was thin . Almost too thin. He did eat. She wore a gray shirt and green skirt.she had removed her flip flops. The day was going great. Then he had to say it.

“What are we? Are we dating?” he asked. “No! Lets not go there!”she said. She seemed nervous, agitated. “I dont understand “he said. “I dont want to go there yet. We realy enjoy eachothers compony. I know i love being with you. I think you enjoy spending time with me. ” she told her.”i do. Very much so. “He answered.

“Once we try to figure this all out then its gets complicated. We have to deal with the eliphent im the room neither one of us knows how to. I know we are going to have to deal with all of this but i dont want to yet.i dont know if we can sort all of  this. “She said.

“Im sory. I did not meen to upset you. Your right.  I probably should have waited to ask. I got curios. “He said. “Its ok. This is a fantasy isn’t it. Your a separatist Baptist,i am a welcoming united Methodist.  We are entranced in our denominational ideologies. It is crazy to think we can make this work.  One of us would have to leave there world and embrace the other. I dont think it could work long term without it. ” she said.

“You believe for our relationship to work long term, one of us has to give up our dream?” he asked.  “Dont you?” she asked. “I gues your right. “He said. “You would want me to be the one to resign? You dont see female ministers as legitimate.  Of course i should be the one to quit. ” she said.

“I dont believe bibilicaly women should be pastors.  God is creator and redemer, he gets to decide how his church is governed. God designed men to be in leadership even before the fall. “He said.

“I disagree.  Yes it does say the bishop is to husband of one wife. That is an example.  There is no explicit command that a pastor must be male.”she said. “That is a bit of linguistic gymnastics. “He said. “I dont think so.  How do we make this work? Can we realistically? “She asked.

“I dont know!”he asked. “I figured. “She said. “I am sory i brought it up. I did not meen to upset you.”he said “its ok. I know that. Why did you show up a week later? You could have gone back to hagervile and we could have never seen eachother again. Why risk it all?” she asked.

“I dont believe my stoping at your church was an acident.   I was not lonly or inconplete or any of that before i met you. At least i did not think so. I did not perposly remain single during the last few years.  I believe i needed to focus on the ninistry. Focus on establishing the church and establishing myself. I believe God work on the best timing, his timing not ours.  Meeting you was the highlight of that whole trip. I could not stop thinking about you. I dismissed it at first but i knew there was more going on. ” he said.

“I will never be your dream wife. I am not exactly independent fundimental Baptist.  I could not get out of that world. You can take me out of the pastorate but i wont be your kind of wife. Thats just not who i am.  You would not be happy as a united Methodist pastor’s husbend?” she said.

“Is that you want? Me to resign from gospel Baptist  and be a pastor’s husband? ” he asked. “I could not ask that of you.you believe that this is God’s caling in your life.  I would not want to undermine that. So where does that leave us? A masive stand still. ” she said.

“Would you rather have had me not come back a week later?” he asked. “It might have made life easier. It would have been simpler.  No i wouldn’t. That would have made me sad not to see you again.  ” she answered.

They tabled the conversation for a while.  There was a voly ball net set up. They played for a bit. They each won three games.  He decided he should head back. She made him promise he would call when he got home. She worried until he called.

“Hi bec. Im home!”he said. “Good im glad. I did have a good day with you. I love spending time with you.” she said. “I had a good time with you.  I love hanging out with you. ” he said.

Things were complicated between them. They both knew it. Neither one knew how to solve it.  Perhaps there was for another time.

To be continued.
